  1. Oh I remember Morganna. I was going to trump him in terms of "old timer" status by mentioning someone else (below). It's funny that the Cap'n brought up Morganna in this thread. Look what happened at the US Open today ESPN LinkKeeping in line with the "old timer" theme, "the times, they are a changin'"
  2. Morgan State is even hyping the Info's opening a little on their own web site. Interestingly their coach has named CJ1 as the starter, but he's also said that FR Donovan Dickerson could see time. Let's hope he's not a combo of Donovan McNabb and Eric Dickerson MSU Link
  3. Indeed, Andre was the starting safety in 2006.....he had a really nice game in the win over "Chuck the Chest" in Raleigh.
  4. The MONSTER HAND SECTION is apparently on hold
  5. Morgan State averaged 270 yards of total offense in 2008, including games against Winston-Salem State and North Carolina A&T, two of the worst "traditionally black" teams in the country. (I live just south of Greensboro, NC, -- these teams get extensive coverage in the local media, so I know of what I speak.) They averaged 20 points per game and gave up an average of 19.5 ppg. Not saying they couldn't dramatically improve, but I look for you guys to beat them handily. Say, 31 - 10. Your passing game started to come together, your D played lights out in the second half against the Lions, and as long as the coach loses the "up the gut" play I bet your running game develops also.Plus you guys are breaking in a beautiful new facility, it sounds like it will be a sell-out, and your team is hungry after losing to us. Hmmm, maybe 38 - 7.What traditions do you fans have for home games? Despite one sour post after our game that claimed we ripped off Marshall, the "We are . . . Penn State" chant has been around in Happy Valley since the 40's. (I heard it as a kid in the 1960's.) The Lion roar can be obnoxious to opponents, but that is the point, isn't it? And maybe the ____-out didn't start with Penn State, but you have to admit we have raised it to an art form. Having over 100,000 people, all in white under the lights, sends a strong message of support to the players. So, get some T-shirts, form clubs like the "Blue Royster Cult" (soon to be followed by "Blue Royer Cult" in honor of Dakota Royer, an outstanding 2010 commit), make up signs, etc. -- find some things that rock Info Stadium, and make it a fearsome place for opponents to visit. Please, tho, stay away from cow bells and shaking keys -- those are annoying, not fear-inspiring.I expect to hear noise from your stadium all the way down here in North Carolina!!! Nice of you to stop by again, 84. We'll be keeping a keen eye on the Syracuse game, since we still have to travel to Upstate NY later in the year. As far as traditions go, we're sort of entering new ground with an on campus stadium. The band is supposed to march through campus. Perhaps a few other posters are privy to additional plans.I totally agree on the key/cowbell comment (MORE cowbell is only funny in SNL skits ). Besides, keys and cowbells to me just evoke memories of Akron's abbreviated stop in the Ohio Valley Conference during the early 80's. No thanks!
  6. You have to love Andre's "team first" attitude. Here is a guy with "BCS talent" (originally signed by BC), whose willing to do whatever it takes to help out the team.BJ Linky
  7. Carlton Jackson (now CJ1), apparently had a pretty effective final scrimmage for the Bears.MSU LinkI wouldn't completely rule out CJ having a decent game against his ex-teammates. While he had plenty of frustrating moments while playing here (Miami 7-0 game seems to epitomize this), it's easy to forget the good performances (notably the 41-24 loss to Indiana, in which he was 15-21 for 200 yards and 2TDs with 71 yards rushing to boot). It's highly likely the damage he can cause will be limited by the talent that surrounds him now at MSU. But he'll probably make a few plays that will have us squirming in our brand new seats a little. When it's all over, however, the Zip LB's will stuff the remainder of the Bears' rushers and force CJ to pass way too much. The turnovers will then begin to mount, and the Zips' 2 and 3 deep will see plenty of action. I expect them to continue the scoring as well.Predicted Final Score:Zips 56Bears 13
  8. I was sort of hoping for a tie in the football game! :lol:Seriously, the Zips are even better in soccer this year than last year. They'll likely be ranked #1 in most polls here pretty soon. Now I'm not saying the soccer talent disparity is the inverse of what the PSU/UA talent disparity is in American Football. But I think it's fair to say that it would be an upset if PSU was to either win or tie come October 28.
  9. Hey "other 84" Even though the 1st half was pure misery, I must say that it's been a good experience to share perspective with you and the other Lions fans that have posted here. You guys seem like the types who I would really enjoy battling in a pickup game of just about anything and then shaking hands afterwards. You may recall that I grew up rooting for Pitt, so it's probably a little too much for me to pull a 180 and actually "root" for PSU. Besides, I've always been a fan of the underdog. I suppose that makes me a natural UA alum, fan, and supporter BUT, I will say this. Even when I was much younger and actively rooting against PSU, I ALWAYS respected the program that Coach Paterno ran. Nothing I've seen over the years or in the steps leading up to our game the past Saturday has changed that opinion. Best of luck in the Big 10. You can count on my support in ONE game for certain ;)BTW, we'll try to get Coach Porter to call off the dogs in the 2nd half on October 28
  10. I'm not blaming you Oh I didn't take it that way. I'm just as disappointed as anyone, and I wish I had made ONE more phone call to OBC late in the week. Because, I really could have used a few Alt Ambers to soothe my pain
  11. I agree with much of what Cap'n wrote, in particular his #1. That was demoralizing to me, but hopefully not to the O-Line (at least not for more than 24 hrs). Here are a few additional comments.1) I really liked seeing Andre Jones back in the secondary. LaFrance looked very steady at WR, and how many WR's do we really need. This move should pay bigger dividends down the road.2) Vince Okruch had the LB's playing VERY well. The 3-3-5 was actually pretty decent against the run and I suspect his coaching is largely responsible.3) While Clark had a nice percentage and way too much time on occasion, we DID manage to get more pressure on him than I am used to in these games, PLUS the PSU receivers were often pretty well covered but the throw was right there.4) I agree that this team need to win 7 of the next 11 to achieve any notion of success (and save JD's job this year). I think this team remains capable, BUT three road game are looking much more difficult after the first week of results have come in. These are Buffalo, Syracuse, and BGSU. Therefore, any let-downs at home could spell disaster. Let's hope the Info has a little early magic in her. I know I plan to do whatever I can to boost the home field advantage.
  12. Will def be there next time.Once again, I am REALLY sorry for this. I will take the heat.
  13. Hey thanks for the extensive summary, GP1. I had seen Griffin play on TV a few times last year, and he really blew me away by the combination of his athletic ability AND his grasp of the QB position (particularly at his age). I was really curious to see how his game looked IN PERSON, and it sounds from your account as though he's just as impressive as he looks on TV. I've heard comparisons to Michael Vick, but I don't think that gives Griffin enough credit. Vick was a much less polished college QB, even at his peak, than what I've already seen from Griffin. It'll be interesting to see how Baylor fairs in the Big 12. Thanks again.
  14. I'm watching Buffalo against UTEP from the Sun Bowl, and at the moment the Bulls are up 16-7. There's still plenty of time to go, but from what I've seen Maynard looks decent and the UB backs aren't doing bad either. I'd say there's no evidence to count them out in the silly MAC East a this point. In fact, I'd say anyone but Miami could win the MAC East this year, based on what I've seen this first week.
  15. That sign really through me, since I called doen there earlier this week and was told that theym did not carry the Big 10 network. I apologize for passing on that information, but none of my other sources gave me any reason to suspect that the game would be on there (OBC). I actually thought the BH was a decent atmosphere. If the game had been anywhere near competitive in the 1st half, the BH crowd would have been pretty cool I think.
  16. I think all of us at Zipsnation should take some credit for lighting a fire under the collective butts of PSU's defensive front. What an whipping those guys laid on us Except for the first and last drives on the 1st half, the defense actually played pretty damn well, despite the 3-3-5 scheme. Why can't we ever seem to put a good defensive and offensive effort together????
  17. Congrats Penn State. Your front seven was easily as good as advertised. Our O-Line was overmatched, although Montgomery's play calling didn't help. That about sums it up for me.
  18. Nice, solid win. Might need to pick it up against the home team Sunday.
  19. How about heeding your own advice, Mayor of Simpleton. I'm not sure who is the bigger attention whore, you or jupiter2.
  20. It's been informative and enjoyable. I hope (and I think) the game will also be! Good luck the rest of the way, Lions and fans Go Zips!!!!
  21. Ball State's loss really wasn't surprising at all. They probably should have lost by more, and THAT was a little surprising to me. I understand they were not expected to contend (by most) for the West this year, but perhaps there weak start is indicative that the East/West balance of power will be a little more even this year than many have thought. It'll be interesting to see the results from the games on Saturday.BTW, GP1, if you are atternding the Wake/Baylor game tomorrow (hey, I'M the one who brought it up.....so please no GP1 bashing about Wake ) I'd be curious to get your assessment of Bear QB Robert Griffin.
  22. Rough crowd! You do realize I was just using the home win streak as an EXAMPLE of Boise St's "winning" ways. Besides, Cap'n and company are going to be making so much noise that Happy Valley WILL be the Zips home tomorrow
  23. Well capacity is 32,000, so that's about all you can squeeze into Bronco Stadium. The 34,127 was a record crowd there (Wiki Link). They have plans to expand to 50,000.Wiki LinkMy observation centers on the capacity of Bronco Stadium vs. the Info .. they're not sitting on a gold mine of 50K paid attendance to accelerate their rise to the top levels of the FBS. They've only been D1-A / FBS since 1996. It is the only game in town, I get that. But if it can happen there .. it can happen here. The Zips stadium is better .. for both the fans and players. B) Go Zips!!A packed Info will certainly hace a "big time" feel to it. The hardest part of the Boise St emulation is the success on the field (FIFTY straight home wins!!). There's no better time to start than tomorrow.

  25. I'm sure the BH had to notice our strong showings at OBC for the NCAA selection show and tourney game. That had to make it easier to cough up the cash to be the official watch party location. Plus, they might want to better position themselves for Info traffic before and after games.
