  1. After reading the various arguments, I'm still in the "defense is a more glaring need" camp. I don't think we can underestimate how much additional pressure our typically "less than stellar" defense puts on our offense to carry the load. True, Jacq himself is to blame for many of the mistakes that have been mentioned. But too often the opponent is scoring in the 40's and forcing the Zip offense to play a higher risk brand of football than they might otherwise prefer. Now specifically what I'd like to see on the defensive side is MUCH more enthusiasm and excitement. The one game last year in which the defense played like that, IMHO, was against Cincinnati. The hitting from the Zip defense was fierce during most of the game. If we see this kind of effort during all of the games in 2009, I believe the MAC East will be ours (at the very least).
  2. You're picking late because you're an Ohio State fan. UA pushed back the seat selection date of all OSU fans. Buckzip's selection is set for July 19th, 2012 from what I understand. And his parking pass is for the Rubber Bowl.It could be worse. He COULD have been stuck with December 21, 2012!
  3. Very clever MDZip! 2005-1972=33 2009-2008=1I'm going for a rhyming haiku. Each head coach a bumFrom Doug Martin to Dick CrumTo watch is to numb
  4. But it looks as if Boals may have been the one recruiting him.
  5. I'm really surprised Snyder has managed to stay at Marshall this long. If JD's seat is hot (and it is, justifiably so), then Snyder's must be reaching the melting point.BTW, one of my FAVORITE stats I like to throw out to those of my friends who remain uninformed on Zip athletics (and football in particular) is the fact that we beat them (Blundering Turd) the last 2 out of 3 times we faced them
  6. I was wondering the same thing. It's interesting that part of the article reads as follows. What do they mean by NOW? It's almost as if there is an implication that something has changed with the Zips QB depth chart from the time Nicely signed until just recently. Does this mean something has happened to Jordan Miller?
  7. Right now we have NO idea how the Syracuse program will be in Marrone's 2nd season, so I'd hold off a little on that characterization. Do I think we can beat them again in the Dome this year? Sure, but mainly because it's hard to turn a football program around overnight. But Marrone will likely have much of his system and a lot more of HIS players come year two. Coaching is such a difference maker I just don't think we can necessarily count that 2010 home game as an "easy" one just yet..
  8. Nice pics, Zeke's Mom! Thanks for posting them. I'm sure it feels like another milestone has come and gone for you. I hope Zeke and his date enjoyed themselves at the Prom and I hope all graduation ceremonies and celebrations go off without a hitch
  9. I think we'd have more trouble with THESE guys --> than we will with CJ and the Bears!
  10. This must be related to the WHO's latest announcement regarding a NEW potential flu epidemic. It's epicenter is reportedly expected to occur at the corner of Exchange and Spicer and the outbreak is predicted to peak in September. Officials are now calling it the BAIN STRAIN.
  11. Let's make it clear that that photo was taken before the operation.I KNEW I could count on you!
  12. Geez, Zipmeister. You regularly make me chuckle with your often unusual and sometimes twisted take on Zip affairs. But this time you've just turned into -->
  13. When I saw the picture of the Men's 100 finish in the Sunday Beacon Journal, I noticed the winner was a UA freshmen by the name of Phil Ferguson. That caught my eye because of another Phil Ferguson who used to do the sports on Channel 23 back in the day and now performs numerous tasks for WNIR, notably the news during Bob Golic's afternoon show. I was listening to Steve French this morning and it turns out that the younger Phil (Jr) is the sports/newscaster's son. Frenchie went on to emphasize that Phil Jr is only a freshmen and that he has only been running track for a relatively short time. His 10:47 (personal best) time apparently qualified him for the NCAA regionals. What more can you say about Coach Mitchell? His tenure has been nothing short of magnificent.
  14. Since it's a little slow this time of year, I thought this might stir up some discussion. I'll lead it off by stating that I am thrilled to have both Harris and Montgomery aboard. But I really believe Okruch will have the biggest impact. True, he is helped in a sense in that any improvement on the defensive side of the ball may be more obvious given the recent struggles here. But if you look at his track record, it's very impressive. My Illini co-worker was really sad to see him go after he coordinated UI's best defense in years. Apparently, he had a personality issue with the Zooker.
  15. Paulus makes it official. What are the chances he is behind center for the Orange when the Zips beat them again in October?ESPN Linky
  16. I'm right there with you (and as a matter of fact if you go to the game, I will literally be right there with you), but I really hope they decide to have all that spit and fire on the 5th of September, and not wait until the 15th. I know. My bad. In my haste to get it all down (under the watchful eye of my boss) I did make a few typos. But "No Fear" I KNOW we can do it. Penn State is our B....! I sure hope Phil has at least as much enthusiasm for the game as his Uncle! Great hearing from you again, drealscout1 Your description of the game is surely enjoyable to read. And you even got away from calling the Nittany Lions "Penn" on your 2nd post Keep it coming! How's Phil doing, by the way? Hope he's fit as a fiddle.
  17. Is the CFL becoming a Zip playground or what??Jermaine Reid Ti-Cat LinkJabari LinkOf course, both Reid and Arthur benefit from being "non-imports" in CFL terms.
  18. Your Muskateer aim is "spot on" with the Syracuse comparison. If UA and the surrounding region can initially create even 85-90% of the game day atmosphere at Syracuse, then I'd be ticked orange.....I mean pink.
  19. The City Stars need all the help they can get. I saw them on FOX Soccer Channel a while back against Rochester from Bedford, and they struggled mightily. I was hoping to see Evan Busch in goal for Cleveland, but some other guy was there the whole game. I agree Knowles has a good chance of sticking with Portland when they make the jump. Much of the Seattle roster is ex-USL1 players of theirs. It's kind of weird. There is no TECHNICAL promotion/relagation system, but for many of the players it ends up being like a promotion for the USL-1 cities that have been tabbed for expansion. I'm still shaking my head about the fact that Montreal has been left out. I wonder in Impact owner Saputo has done something to upset MLS commisioner Don Gerber?
  20. I'd like to see certain sections of the Info being taken over by fan clubs of individual players, like Jabari's section in the corner of the Rubber Bowl but on a much larger and more maniacal scale!
  21. So what you're saying is, no Payne no gain?
  22. With the attention on Payne and others, this guy sort of flew in under the radar.BJ Linkie
  23. Why the Beacon has a story about the game and the article goes so far as to answer my earlier question regarding who might be showing for the Crew Ohio Dot Com
