  1. I think you're correct regarding my directions, zen!Maybe one of the Great Lakes decided to become REALLY great.
  2. Can anybody help me? I think I might be lost.
  3. Just saw it and was going to post myself. Nice call, mivid12! Should be on in a few, with Few?
  4. If you are lucky, that probably still happens. it's a tuesday traditionI'm sure we could get enough of us to pitch in on a somewhat more unpleasant reenactment tomorrow at OBC if you'd like That's what you get for making fun of us old-timers!Back to the game in '86, I remember taking the afternoon off from my job at Goodyear Aerospace (another real blast from the past). The one Michigan player I haven't seen mentioned yet is Roy Tarpley, their 6'11" center who went on to play in the NBA for the Dallas Mavs. Zip linebacker Russell Holmes did a nice job against him in spite of giving up 8 inches in height.
  5. For those of us who just can't swing the west coast road trip at this time, Ohio Brewing Company will be hosting a watch party beginning at 6:00 PM on Thursday. I've been told that representatives from the athletic department will be there, in addition to general alumni and fans like ourselves. Perhaps we can create the same excitement as we had during selection day? I look forward to seeing you all down there. Go Zips!
  6. I can also see Nik bulking up (just a little) and becoming a VERY difficult assignment for anyone to guard at the 4 spot. Of course Nik may see himself in the stable of returning PGs, based on that wild dribbling escape from the U@B press in the 2nd half the other night
  7. I will preface this by emphasizing that, like many here, I believe the Zips will have to get a considerable amount of help from the Bulldogs in order to pull off the upset. I heard (from a pretty good source, a co-worker who is an Illinois grad, obviously with a vested interest in this particular bracket) about an interesting quote that the excellent Zag coach made on Rome's Burning yesterday (I believe). He reportedly told Jim that they (Gonzaga) have TWO tough games coming up in the tournament. Maybe you're skeptical, but my buddy swears it's true. Now perhaps Gonzaga can sleep-walk in the first game and still get the W, but I for one will gladly take any psychological advantage thrown our way.
  8. Well I certainly had no idea there was a KD connection there at all. That CCNY team is one of the most famous (and infamous, I suppose) is college basketball history. It's an interesting, although very sad of course, story. It makes me wonder just how many teams got away with what CCNY did during this period.
  9. OVC followers surely can't be happy about having to be in the "play-in" game this year. I believe this is unprecidented for them.
  10. Ahhh, one of Bill Clinton's two favorite schools.I certainly don't want on OVC team to open the Info.
  11. And NOW, welcome an extra special guest for a counterpoint!I just wanted to lighten things up a bit Mother told me to take the Zips and the 11.5 points.
  12. I agree! I think I heard Frenchy say on WNIR this morning that Oakland is undefeated at home this year, so that's in our favor. I'll definitely be rooting for BG and U@B though.
  13. I know you won't like this answer but AMTRAK can get you out and back for $193 (before taxes I think) each way. 45 HOURS to do it each way so you'd probably have to be on the 3:45AM train that leaves in about 8 hours. Haven't checked Greyhound .$576 Roundtrip on United Akron to Portland if you can leave on weds and stay till monday. I wont be able to make it but I know some blue and gold will be in the house!!! By the way- anyone interested in watching together at OBC or anywhere else thursday? Most definitely, infofan! I'm afraid that the sour economy and accompanying lack of company bonus for 2009 have conspired to keep me in Akron THIS time around. I have to believe that OBC will be planning to host those of us who are in the same boat. I'll be done there tomorrow and will inquire.
  14. Of course not! Gonzaga was "mid-major" before there even was such a term
  15. I still think a #14 seed is more likely. Not that I care about the Red & Silver, I wonder if the seeding of OSU and Purdue depends at all on who wins the Little 11 tourney?
  16. +1! Go Zips!
  17. Thanks for the support, BIE. I have a healthy respect for what U@B has been doing all across the athletic department of late. The clean, competitive rivalry that has developed between our schools is good for both of us. We sure hope to score at least one for the MAC this coming week.
  18. Thanks for stopping by to congratulate the Zips I look forward to following VCU's progress through the tournament this year. May Eric Maynor and company cause fits for whoever gets in the Rams' way.ps. If we don't somehow manage to face each other yet this season, I surely hope both staffs are open to future regular season contests between UA and VCU.
  19. Thanks to all the Valpo fans. That's a class gesture on your part. We all look forward to a good game in Akron next year, but it's sure nice to be awaiting an NCAA tourney matchup. It wasn't until the cutting down of the nets tonight that I recalled the same moment back in '86 at the JAR with Huggins squad doing the same after the victory of Kerry Hammonds and Middle Tennessee. What an incredible feeling it was then AND tonight! This year's team is special in so many ways. I don't think I've ever heard Steve French caught up in his emotions as I did tonight, while listening to the post-game wrap-up on the way home. Congratulations to the coaching staff, the players, and all who are a part of the day-to-day operations that support Zip basketball. It's been a long time coming, but we all suspect that this year's success is merely the proverbial "tip of the iceberg". Go Zips!!
  20. I can't make it before, but win or lose I plan to be there after. Go Zips!!!!And it is a pretty nice place for these type of events.
  21. Not to dwell on what I hope is a non-issue, but I believe that by virtue of their regular season crown (albeit through tie-breakers) BUGS HAS the NIT spot locked up regardless of what happens tonight. Let's make this a moot point, Zippers!!
  22. ZM, are you with a "debt-restructuring" outfit?
  23. Controlling the boards against Miami is one thing, but who woud have guessed that we could outrebound BG BY SEVENTEEN heading into last night's game? Simply amazing. If we do anywhere near like that on the boards tonight, I really like our chances. In fact, if we hold our own against Buffalo's bangers in that regard, I still like our chances. I see we're a 2 point favorite. That's about where I'd have it.
