  1. This is absolutely the case. And we also need to consider a few programs that are not even D-1 (FBS) yet, but will likely be there soon. These include UT-San Antonio, Charlotte, and The University of South Alabama. Whether any of them enter C-USA or the Sunbelt initially is up for debate, but they will likely effect the reshaping of these and other conferences one way or another.
  2. First off, GREAT job on compiling this list and I really applaud your diligence, uakronkid! I'm pretty sure the baseball team won the 1996 MAC tournament. The only thing I could find to partially back this up is a 2007 Zip baseball media guide (see full link below). It shows P-OF Dave Yoder as being the MAC tourney MVP in 1996, so I'm pretty sure that was the year. Plus, Zips are all over the all-tourney team for that same year. I seem to recall them giving a Texas (Tech?) school a decent game in the 1st round of the NCAA's as well.Dave Yoder Left Field/Pitcher (MVP) 1996Todd Maynard Pitcher 1996Brian Petrucci Right Field 1996Jay Bartos Third Base 1996Mike Doerbecker Designated Hitter 1996Full Link
  3. I wonder if they got those from the dentist so they do a really good job instead of those Crest white strips. My sources tell me they got them from John Elway's personal stash.
  4. It's a decent review. But what's with lumping a home game against OU with road games at Penn St. and CMU in terms of difficulty?
  5. Looks to me like they were going for the easy Longhorn fan conversion. "Now our hand gesture is just like the hook'em; but not as big of a rip off of the surfer dude"Is that a prerequisite for a Texas collegiate program, you have to have a hand gesture?Yes. George W Bush mandated it as Texas Governor several years ago. Makes sense now. I also found out that their mascot is also a female.I think her name is ShastaNow THAT is all-time Zipsnation humor! :lol:I remember a silly old college football/politcal figure joke about Bring 'Em Young being one of Bill Clinton's favorite schools (I won't mention the other school, because this is a family show.....but they used to be in the OVC with Akron and Chris Simms' old man went there). This sort of flips that joke on it's macho head, as in The Bring 'Em Young Cougars
  6. We whooped their women's basketball LAST year. And the only soccer team in town is Brian Ching's Dynamo. I had forgtten about the women's victory last year, and who would figure that neither Rice nor UH would have men's soccer programs? Thanks for the information.I was looking at the UH athletic site and they have a picture of Mack and his wife giving some sort of three fingered gesture that I presume is a Cougar tradition. It looks like a combination of "Hook 'em Horns" and the middle finger. Seeing as how much UT and the other "old school" Southwestern Conference teams used to look down upon UH, perhaps it is A quick wikipedia search said it was the Cougar Paw.Yeah doesn't look like any cougar paw I've ever seenThanks g-mann17. It sure is unusual.

  8. I am 99.999999999% sure that I found it during an internet search I remember thinking to myself how lame GoZips.com seemed to be once I had stumbled upon ZNO. OK, perhaps that's a little unfair but for good or bad this site (ZNO) is always more entertaining and informative.
  9. I am truly envious Z.I.P.!! This should be an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately it's beyond my reach at the moment, but I'll look forward to hearing your account of the game. I'll be curious to see how much, if any, Lionel Messi plays.
  10. Amazing. Maybe he can set up a home and home. :blink:With the "we don't want to be Akron" quip, I'd settle for a game with UH anywhere in any sport. Of course, soccer would be a nice place to start
  11. K.E.N.T. happens!
  12. Zipsnation Therapy is 100% free and roughly 85% effective. Stay for as long as you like Class of '82 and have your fill
  13. DO ACRON HAVE E BAND? Just ask anyone from Howard. The UA band BLEW THEM AWAY a few years back
  14. There will be a video strip/ribbon running on the facing of east upper deck. Of course the main scoreboard in south end of stadium. And a small, auxilliary scoreboard in north endzone ( with score and clock only).Yes, but there was originally going to be a videoboard that faced out toward Exchange St. I never really heard that it was nixed like the tunnel or bridge.sounds dangerous for exchange street traffic. If, in fact, there IS any Exchange Street traffic on game day. I was told during the last stadium tour that the closing of Exchange to vehicular traffic (game day only) is still under consideration.
  15. He's your nephew and your brother. So this explains the whole Georgia thing.Careful now, do you want snow for Christmas this year?
  16. Is this for certain? When will it be announced? I really like the selection if that's the case. I thought he did a decent job at YSU and was let go too early there. I'll correct myself. Peters left YSU on his own for the assistant position at Cinci. This makes me like him even more! :lol:Here's a good stat to back up the job Peters did at YSU. YSU has only had ONE 20-win regular season in its D-1 history (interesting contrast to their other Northeast Ohio rivals). This came under Peters in the next to last year he was there (1997-98 I believe).
  17. It looks like they're finished laying turf from goal line to goal line!!It's probably been mentioned here before, but the Info isn't the only FBS stadium being opened this fall. The University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium looks to more or less completed as I look at their webcam today.TCF Bank Stadium WebcamThey really did a nice job on theirs as well. It seets 50,000 and really has a classic look to it.
  18. When I was on my 1st tour of the stadium (during the spring game), our tour leader mentioned that Bowling Green had already approved alcohol sales for this season (becoming, I was lead to believe, the only MAC school to do so). I was told on the 2nd tour last weekend that alcohol WILL be served in the LUXURY SEATS at the Info, but that (as we have known for some time) the board had not yet decided on sales for the remainder of the stadium. I tend to agree that, while I might personally prefer it, it's probably not in the best interest of the university. My plan is to get my beer at OBC prior to the game, walk the mile or so to the stadium amidst the pulsating fervor of "Akron Zip Gameday" and then focus wholeheartedly on the game when I am in the stadium
  19. Here's another Leakin' article with some more information. A key statement, as far as I am concerned, is shown below. I'll cut the guy some slack based on this (if it's true). It's one thing when an opportunity is presented to you. It's an entirely different thing when someone is so consumed by finding something bigger and better that you have to seriously question how much effort they're putting into their current position.Whole Article
  20. Please get the freaking job and move on. This is a big distraction from what should be a very exciting time for those who care about UA athletics. If our AD wants to leave at this time, just go. Give me Hunter. Give me someone who wants to be here. I don't care. Why does UA have to be his steady paycheck while he shops his self around?I agree 100% Cap'n. This act is getting OLD quickly.
  21. Leakin' is reporting that Mack's a finalist at UH.Linky
  22. Over the weekend I flipped quickly through a Sporting News and saw that they picked the Zips SIXTH in the MAC East (can't recall who was behind UA). I promptly returned the trash to the newsstand. I know these magazines are pretty silly for the most part, but SIXTH???? You have to be kidding me.
  23. In the limited time I have been on campus over the last few years, I've seen the punters and kickers using the outdoor practice field at least 3 or 4 times.
  24. The graphic from Cap'n is awesome, and it got me to thinking. Can we get Zeke to suit up for football, if only to guard the goal posts on long field goal attempts?Welcome to campus, Zeke!
  25. That's a pretty interesting comment, considering the depth we already have at WR. Don't get me wrong, I think Randy is AMAZING on film. I just wonder what are JD's immediate plans for him. Kick returner would seem to be a natural.
