  1. Is Howard bringing their band? Seriously, this is very good news! Go Zips!!
  2. That's odd. It's giving ME the strangest urge to PM the great GP1
  3. The same can be said of the Browns... (ok Ill stop hammering the browns, Ill leave that to the Steelers)--I think every conference has a place for someone looking to move up. I don't know much about cleveland but if you're right and its a glorified community college then perhaps Cornell... I would say NH but that would be a hike for the Michigan teams..I suppose you would be a great guy to ask this question. First off, wasn't there a time (prior to UB bringing D1 football back) when the SUNY's were forbidden by law from having D1 football? Obvously NY changed this at some point to allow for UB's resurgence, but what of the other SUNY's? Is there any POTENTIAL D1 (FBS) school in the bunch? Albany? Stony Brook?
  4. The TV exposure is even a little better than I expected. I don't believe the IU game was on ESPN's original schedule (link below). Perhaps they were waiting on word from UA?ESPN LinkAnd with the Syracuse kickoff time still up in the air, that game could see it's way on TV as well.I'm pretty happy with the times in general
  5. Maybe Akron, Buffalo, and Toledo should just embrace their battered images and become charter members of.........THE RUST BELT CONFERENCE
  6. These are all excellent Akro-Centric choices! I know over the years Luigi's has been content with their location and slice (ha ha) of the market, but wouldn't it be SWEET to be able to purchase one of their pies at the INFO?
  7. I was sort of hoping for an option that would cause a PM to be automatically sent from a random member to me every time I log in. This could come in handy when I'm particularly lonely. I wouldn't even care so much whether the member was "real" or "imagined".
  8. Baylor is considered an improving program. But, they managed to get beaten at Buffalo last year. That sort of puts the argument to rest based on recent history. That was UTEP. Baylor beat U@B 2 years ago at Buffalo WITHOUT the phenom Griffin. If he doesn't get hurt, the Big 12 and the rest of the country (if they don't know already) are about to find out just how special this kid is in 2009.
  9. Other than Iowa State, which Big 12 teams do you think Akron could beat?Texas A&M sucks right now, but that's the only other team IMHO.Baylor comes to mind...Baylor would destroy the Zips right now.......HORRIBLE matchup. Imagine Julian Edelman to the 10th power. That's what the Bears have in Robert Griffin these days.Linky

  11. +1 and then some! That WAS a fun game in a great location. Dwight Smith's interception of Vick was pure excitement. I believe Vick was trying to hit Andre Davis (yes Brownies, THAT Andre Davis) deep and Smith must have made up 7 or 8 yards on the underthrown ball (but it still went a good 65 yards) to make a diving grab. We actually made it an extended Virginia vacation that year and stopped down to Charlottesville to see the historical sights of that region (Monticello, Ash Lawn-Highland, Michie Tavern, UVa). I guess that would have been easier to do that when Frye put a scare into the Wahoos a few years later, but we didn't make that game (or the one after it).
  12. All I can say is "bravo", Cap'n. But I'm I being an elitist in doing so?
  13. --> Why you can ALSO come over to MY place for a couple of cold ones anytime you wish!
  14. That's pretty cool for Patrick! I figured that this must mean his was an "out" for the Junior World Championships, and here is the link that confirms it. There are a few familiar names and programs in this link though.USA Football Junior National Team Roster
  15. As expected, the Board of Trustees voted yesterday to limit alcohol sales to the club and suite levels of the INFO (5th and 6th floors) only.BJ Linky
  16. Then I wish she'd stop with the "good" vs "bad" spam already!!
  17. I believe it's directly related to the threads concerning the AD position.
  18. I voted MSU, because they're the in-state counterweight that SHOULD exist in every state. Plus they recruited a local kid out of Northwest (Nate Klatt). Besides, Sparty's kind of cool too. ESPN sure seems to think so.
  19. If you'd like to "write in" Northwestern, just say so in a post (the poll only allows for 10 responses). I'm sure most of us can adjust the table accordingly.
  20. The search is the right thing to do. It's not like you can't come back and hire Hunter, Mike or whomever if the search is disappointing.
  21. Well ok but dont let me catch you doing it again ... Congrats on the new digs guys, I sure am glad we ended the Rubber Bowl for you and don't have to be in the new stadium this coming year..BTW, U@B's OOC schedule isn't so bad either. One FCS team (Gardner-Webb or is that Jack Webb?) with three pretty decent FBS programs (UTEP, Pitt at home, Central Florida) is very respectable. You guys had better come out of the shoot ready though. That opener in the Sun Bowl will be VERY difficult, IMHO. Mike Price's squad has faltered a bit after a quick start after his arrival, but the place will be packed, hot and LOUD. Of course, the same can be said for the Zips.
  22. Im talking about the MAC as a whole Akron is one of the bright spots..Ah. Sorry. I guess I should have clicked the link. I thought you linked the ESPN one where Akron is called out for supposedly having the 4th easiest OOC schedule in the non-BCS.No Prob, I did not give props in the post where it should have went, feel free to comment over there..My big thing was the FCS cupcakes and avoiding of the BCS teams...Well we DO have one of those, but it's only to break in the brand spanking new, $61.6 million stadium. That's fair, right?
  23. The MAC is just too big. I feel no connection with teams in Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. The East division is what I consider to be the MAC. I could care less about a trip to ball state or western Michigan. That being said I like buffalo as a contender only. They are a decent program all around and the MAC is desperate for good programs.LOLThe MAC is Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. And to say that is "too big" is really laughable. Look at the Big East. New Jersey to Florida to Kentucky. Big Ten stretches from Iowa to Minnesota to Pennsylvania. The Sunbelt even is a bigger geographical area than the MAC.Also NCAA requires 8 teams to be in a conference. Any less and you have to be "independents". Eventually they are going to require 12 teams per conference and require a conference championship game. (At the very least the BCS will require it. And that is where your shake up happens). Big Ten needs 1, their 1 will likely mean that the Big East will need 5. The PAC needs, I believe 2. Mostly i'm saying that one conference is going to die in the next 10 years.I understand your thinking, but don't forget there will be "new" FBS schools, mostly in the south, that MAY prevent this contraction from occurring.
  24. The problem is not concentration of teams, it is too many teams. Get rid of Buffalo, Temple and N. Illinois and make everyone play everyone every year. Create competition. Eliminate the MAC Championship game. The winner of the regular season, after playing everyone else in the league, is the one with the best league record.Hell even splitting the MAC would work. Buffalo is a strength of this conference like it or not.I agree 100% And as much criticism the MAC has faced over the years (much of it justified), they should get credit for bringing in U@B when many (YSU supporters come to mind in particular) were scratching their heads at the time. If Buffalo and the MAC part ways at some point, I'm inclined to think it will be the decision of the former as opposed to the latter.
  25. +1Buffalo and Toledo have many similarities with UA. If and when conference changes affect the Zips, I hope we stay with them both.
