  1. I see the dude who wrote this was probably (mistakenly) swayed by the Beacon's incorrect caption of Paris McNeal "hoisting" the wagon wheel. Granted, I will allow that the whole team actually earned this right, but I can't help but think the error is being propagated.
  2. I do feel that there was one critical point in the game where the Zips could have better utilized CJ's abilities. It was on the last 3rd down opportunity for the Zips. I believe the Can't defense was showing signs of fatigue, so instead of running inside like we did, I felt that some bootleg action, with CJ getting to the edge would have probably picked up the 1st down and the Zips would likely have held onto the ball for the rest of the game. It would have been a fairly "safe" call too, with the worst thing to likely happen being CJ going out of bounds before getting the 1st. In that situation, though, I'd take my chances with his speed against a tiring opponent more often than not. I'd like to see more bootleg action with CJ in general because of the pressure it puts on the defense.
  3. I see on Yahoo that UConn has opened as a 13 point favorite. With the Zips banged up the way they are, this is probably about right. This, of course, does not mean that if we put together 4 solid quarters on both sides of the ball, we can't come away with a nice win on the road. While watching UConn beat Pitt the other night on ESPNU, I was pretty impressed with thier new QB (Lorenzen) and thier small, quick back. When they showed UConn's upcoming schedule towards the end of the game, Mike Gottfried gaves the Zips props, mentioning the win over Can't and the fact that it won't be an easy game for UConn. "Akron's got a pretty good football team" is what I believe he said. He's always pulling for the MAC, it seems.
  4. You hit the nail right on the head, Zip81! It may have been "only" 22,000, but the atmosphere was outstanding. As much as I dislike Can't, I hope the football rivalry just continues to grow. I've been to VERY FEW games at the bowl where there was as much excitement and acknowledgment from the fans (on both sides, especially YOU, you A-K-Rowdies!!!) throughout the game. It was a wonderful day indeed!
  5. BJ referred to the #7 raising the wheel as CJ, when it was obviously Paris McNeal. I noticed it 1st thing this morning too. I figured a number of you would catch it
  6. Zippy is currently 140 votes up on Hokiebird and in the #1 spot overall!!!
  7. That game at Buffalo could easily be the first Bulls win over the Zips.
  8. The line looks like it's creeping down ever so slightly. It's at 3 1/2 now. I wouldn't be surprised to see it at 1 or 2 points by the end of the week.
  9. Link to MAC WebsiteWith Can't having some unproven players at WR, perhaps #19 will be the spy to shadow Edelman?
  10. I suppose since I've only been on this board for almost a year, that immediately implies that I'm a neophyte to Zip football. If you bothered to read any of my posts, you'd know that I do indeed fear Edelman, as well as Jarvis and the Can't team in general. I just happen to think we'll find a way to beat them on Saturday. Only time will tell.
  11. I am thrilled that were the underdog. This will make the win that much sweeter.
  12. I hate is when posters say "I hate it when posters say"
  13. ....and at the end of the game, after the Zips have THUMPED the flushes, he'll follow it up with backflip with a quarter twist, but I won't care because the Zips will have the Wagon Wheel back where it belongs. I can't get too down about the way the defense played today. Yes, the Indiana QB killed them today and true, Edelman is similarly elusive, but you guys are WAY overreacting. Two questionable pass interference calls made a HUGE difference in the outcome of today's game. Our D struggled against a tremendous athlete today, but I suspect he'll make a number of defenses look bad throughout the rest of the year. I believe both sides of the ball WILL put it together next Saturday, and the team will look at this game as the springboard for the remainder of the season. I see far too much good in this defense to give up on them after a subpar outing. And it was NOT the 3-3-5 that hurt today, it was simply having difficulty staying with two very shifty runners. Yes, Can't presents a similar package, but the game is in our house and that will make a huge difference. Also, don't forget the effort the Zips expended in trying to neutralize Hardy today. Can't presents no such weapon at receiver. Go Zips!!!
  14. Well, by whatever mechanism, Zippy has zoomed into 3rd place overall as of 5:58 psm!!
  15. Ouch, nice Zip81! I'd hold out for a signed Jim Traficant picture!
  16. Let's see.....Deseret News.....Salt Lake City......there's a pretty good chance!
  17. I wouldn't mind the Zips playing YSU in 2009, but I don't want it to become a habit. I think it's easier for the FCS (formerly 1-AA) teams to get up for these kind of match-ups (upper level FCS or 1-AA vs. mid to lower FBS or 1-A). If we DO schedule them, we had BETTER win the game. I'm not sure who I hate losing to more, Can't or YSU. It's pretty close either way.
  18. Zippy is up to 4th place overall. Am I the only one who thinks the way the voting patterns seem to shift dramatically is a little suspicious? It's almost like we're being set up for exciting matchups, with numerous lead changes throughout the week. Maybe I'm getting too cynical
  19. This is the caption for one of ESPN's writers covering the story on their web site.
  20. WTF?????? How is this happening? Come on Zippy!!
  21. Yeah that Mike Holmgren......doesn't know squat about QB's
  22. I think this is a pretty good assessment, skip-zip. I wouldn't necessarily conclude that OU has fallen just yet though. Playing those Louisiana schools down there, a northern school is not going to get very many breaks with the officiating crew. I agree about Buffalo. Our game up there scares me. Here is my order, for what it's worth.1. BGSU2. Ohio3. Miami4. Akron5. Can't6. Buffalo7. TempleBesides Temple, I don't have a whole lot of confidence in ANY of these predictions. I expect a wild race, with the typical Einsteinian tie-breakers needed to decide a winner.
  23. I'm afraid that the obvious strength of this team (the D) could be a little fatigued for this game. I think the offense will improve, particularly the running game, but it won't be enough.Indiana 27Zips 17If for some reason the offense does not show improvement, this could get ugly (I hate to say it). When a team like Indiana (that's been down and roughed up in the Little 11 in recent years) gets an opportunity to lay a whooping on someone, they rarely pass it up.
  24.
