  1. GoZips.com story Dartmouth was only 3-6, so Brown will definitely be a stiffer challenge. This is really a remarkable run. Way to go Lady Zips!!!
  2. I posted a CNNSI story that discussed the book (I had forgotten the title, until I looked it up just now). But I've never read the book. It's on my list now, though.
  3. @CK Good point. Recent kickers aside, UA has had a number of accurate PKs in my time following them, but I think you'd have to go back to Darren Alcorn to find a guy who could put it in the end zone from the 35 consistently. @GP Thanks for the book tip. I agree that moving the kickoff even more would be more effective, especially given CK's point regarding the Zips (and some other teams outside the BCS).
  4. @Keener MDZip must be sleeping. @wadzip Excellent summary. It confirms why I've long wanted UA to stay with UT and UB regardless of conference affiliation.
  5. The NCAA approves rule changes including moving kickoffs from the 30 to the 35 yard line and placing touchbacks on the 25 instead of 20 yard line. This is an obvious attempt to reduce kickoff returns and the injuries (especially to the head) that can accompany them. Part of me likes it, but part of me thinks if you really want to avoid these full speed collisions why not simply place the ball on the 25 after all TDs and FGs. But that takes away the onside kick for teams that are far behind, so maybe this is a good compromise after all.
  6. I've heard KD, French and Dunn all mention the back injury AA first (apparently) suffered against Miami. It seems to be something he can play through, although it flairs up at times. That's why I agree 100% with the comment from gozips19 regarding possibly watching his minutes over the remainder of the regular season.
  7. You have to admire posters who use the 'Meister's very own tactics against him
  8. OU with TWENTY ONE offensive rebounds already in the game (against UB!). The Bobcats could be rounding into form at the right (wrong) time. Get ready for Sunday. It should be a "war".
  9. I'll answer my own question: Probably not (in question)
  10. Zips are currently 7 point favorites. BG has certainly improved over the course of the season. I'm expecting a battle, with the Zips depth once again prevailing behind big games from Chauncey and Q. Zips 69 Falcons 63
  11. Good post. Agreed!
  12. I had a most fortunate opportunity to speak with Coach Bowden recently and I specifically asked him about the QB situation. He said ideally he’d like to see one of the top 3 from last year’s depth chart (PN7, CM8, ZD11) claim this year’s starting spot (although he admitted ZD11 could very well end up on the other side of the ball). But I also got the clear indication that if none of them perform well enough, any of the newcomers will have a shot. He mentioned that he’s bringing in a player from Texas who knows how to run the system he’s installing at UA, and he could be a “safety net” if all else fails. The system, by the way (to which NZF has alluded), will look a lot like the offenses of WVU/Houston/Oklahoma St (all three schools have been visited by Coach and portions of his UA/UNA staff over recent years.
  13. Correct! 1999 So the next time the MAC DOES get two teams in it, we're all going to party like it's ____
  14. Wow, I saw this on FB earlier and I completely forgot about this thread. That's awesome MDZip
  15. Return trip to Orlando next year in question? I wouldn't mind at all upsetting UCF to start the Bowden era off right AND having our FSU buddies help us out by picking up the UCF game next year, leaving the Zips to maybe add a home game instead. If UCF had to pull out of the 2013 game (I can understand them jumping at the chance to play the Noles in Jax), I would think UA would get some compensation. It's something to keep an eye on.
  16. I'm sure glad I kept my thoughts and occasional outbursts (how do our wives put up with us?) during that game far away from ZNo, or else they surely would have come to a different conclusion OK, now I'll quite calling each of you "Shirley"
  17. Even though the at-large dream has been shattered, here is an article that attempts to break down the RPI (although not in great detail). It could still potentially impact the Zips' NCAA seeding if they can manage to win the MAC tourney.
  18. Good observation. The shooting percentages we discuss represent, in statistics terms, the mean or "average" in common terms. The statistics term for the value at which half the time one performs better and half the time one performs worse is the median.
  19. Looking into the 3-point shooting in greater detail, who would have guessed that Gilliam (43%) and Walsh (47%) would be a combined 0-7 from behind the arc? Sucks to be us today. I sure hope Sutton thinks about playing some more 2-3 when they get in the JAR next year (or whenever).
  20. 67-61 ORU
  21. The Zips shot 4 of 21 (19%) from 3 point distance, pretty much HALF their usual percentage (38%). Some of them were hurried (by the shooter), no doubt. But it wasn't like ORU's defense behind the arc was stellar. It was truly sickening when they went to a 2-3 thinking that UA can't make these shots (since normally this would be an erroneous strategy) only to see it pay off. This was a simple "GP1 game". The Zips couldn't put that blasted orange thing in the basket. BTW, skip-zip you were dead right about Buffalo and K.E.N.T. being NOWHERE NEAR the level of a 3 or 4 NCAA tourney seed (as evidenced by the ORU and SDSU victories). I was completely wrong and I take it back. Why is it that bracketbusters usually usually ends up feeling like ballbusters?
  22. You're statement in bold hits the nail on the head for me. I think I'm usually a fairly effective (written) communicator, but I obviousy had an off day (or two) when I initially commented in this thread. I'm sorry for turning a little defensive at times. I was probably just frustrated with not being able to effectively get my point across more than anything. Go Zips!
  23. Maybe you didn't see an important qualifier (on the middle of page 7) I used on your 1st read. Now I acknowledge that one could look at the UA alum base closer to Cleveland as being the very group who might be able to "jump start" the remainder of the northern part of the market into watching more Zip TV sporting events. Time will tell, but I'm skeptical for now. Scott D. also brings up a good point in that, as of right now, it's somewhat of a "leap of faith" to expect even the Akron market to produce the TV ratings a new-conference and their network partner would like. I just feel that counting on the northern part of the #17 TV market for significant Zip Big East (or wherever) TV ratings is a stretch (my OPINION entirely).
  24. Well he was going to take a teaching job in Marysville before the Giants brought him back, so I'm guessing he lives near there. I'm pretty sure he's originally from central Ohio.
