  1. FootballScoop: Pitt to hire Paul Chryst today. Apparently FIU has agreed to better compensate Cristobal's staff to keep him there.
  2. Not much to add other than what's been already said. But I'm wondering what was up with Egner tonight. He sat on the edge of the bench the whole night (as already mentioned) and worse yet, didn't participate in any huddles during timeouts. The irony is that he was featured on the scorecard handout tonight. Edit: Thanks Qz for the explanation!
  3. You make some good points, but how is this connected to the Towson Tigers? Perhaps this "slip" is a clue in itself?
  4. But didn't Steve play at Shenango? Ehhh what's the difference, Mangino wouldn't know anyway.
  5. I agree that he'd be a good hire, especially at this point. My only concern, and I say this in all seriousness, is that this job might kill him.
  6. Absolutely NOT. Anyone with the stench and taint of Ianello has to GO. And that includes Okruch and his porn 'stache. Times are not THAT desperate, my friend. And also, I do not want Mike Johnson. Just seems that he is not very personable. The community definitely would not "rally" behind that guy. He's a West Coaster. Leave him there.
  7. I sure hope, for his sake, Joe Moglia pays enough attention to this story
  8. 1. Good luck hiring Mike Johnson or any other qualified candidate if that 2-year UA “out” clause is part of the offer. 2. Brian Wagner is one wise young man. 3. Times are desperate. Maybe LP should can TW immediately and name Vince Okruch as caretaker head coach for one year, with the understanding that Vince would be part of the next full-time coaches staff. Of course, this leaves the problem of assembling a staff for Vince. OK, never mind on this point. Points 1 and 2 still stand
  9. You can't include such a clause in this Zips' contract. The aforementioned Jesus isn't going to be sniffing .500 at UA for at least 3 seasons. No more banking on "mulligans," hire a good coach!! I agree 100% that you shouldn't, in this particular case especially. But I've heard some talk that such a clause was part of the contract offered to PW. I sure hope not, or we'll never get a decent coach in here.
  10. I have a suspicion as to why we’re having a hard time get anyone to sign on the dotted line. How many 1st time D-1 head coaches would agree to a 5-year contract that has a 2-year “out” clause? This clause, hypothetically of course, stipulates that if after 2 years the school determines the program is not going in the right direction this coach may be reassigned within the University at half of his salary. I’m certainly no expert. I'm not even a novice. But I wonder if such a performance clause is common or not. I know we’ve had some discussion on the board about this (regarding Ianello).
  11. An ESPN blogger has a little more realistic take on the situation.
  12. Thank you! I did not pick up on that reference, but I most certainly wasn't taking it seriously either.
  13. OK, I need to explain. I didn't post this thinking he would actually come (because of course he already dispelled the rumors). I just found it amusing that a national writer would make the effort to dig into the UA coaching situation like he did. He even mentions the silhouette on GoZips.
  14. The only problem is he already turned the job down. Oh yeah, I forgot
  15. For a second there, I thought you might be asking me what I was doing New Year's Eve Just a little Seasonal Humor.
  16. OK, which one of you (bobbyake?, zipseuph?) sent THIS to CNNSI's Andy Staples?
  17. Source? Dave, Dave, Dave, afootball is the source. Has afootball ever sold us down a river before? Oh...nevah mind! Is that "afootball" or "a football"?
  18. This Detroit New columnist agrees with you.
  19. OSU gets bowl ban in 2012 and reduced schollys. JT gets a 5 year "show cause" order.
  20. If this means they're taking another look at other candidates, so be it. Although it sure does lend credence to the "Winters is Plan A with little thought for Plan B" scenario (unless Loeffler also turned them down....ugggh)
  21. Interviewed not offered. I think the word "times" may have accidentally been omitted from the long sentence. It makes more sense that way.
  22. If no announcement is made today, I wonder if that hurts Scot Loeffler's chances?
  23. And Paul Winters is an Akron alum. I thought about that when I realised how many FCS coaches are also either alums, or native to the area. Ambrose (Towson alum), Miles (ISU alum), Watson Brown (Tenn Tech alum)........ I readily admit that it would have been premature to hire Paul 2 years ago. But who would know that his parents would both pass away during this time? I really think that was a huge factor for him. His dream of leading the Zips with them watching was never going to happen. @ Keener - His wiki doesn't seem to point to them being related. Sheesh the guy even grew up in Terre Haute. They could never really get Larry Bird to leave, so it could be an uphill battle with Trent.
  24. I'll throw a few FCS hats into the ring. Jack Crowe - Current HC at Jacksonville St, probably too old and too southern, but he has a great record of late. Chuck Priore - Current HC at Stony Brook Trent Miles - Current HC at Indiana St (eguins suggestion, and I have to admit a fair one at that), his overall record is poor, but you need to read up on how bad the Sycamores were when he got there. Miles is an ISU alum however.
  25. Point taken. After all, I was high on Ambrose from Towson even before we knew Ianello was gone this year. Unfortunately for us, Ambrose is a Towson alum. And I didn't realize Ash had PA connections (coaching at Juniata). He's a little old (60), but that wouldn't stop me from talking to him. He sure spent a long time at Drake.
