  1. It is because he never played football at cant so he just went with his highest level of amateur football.
  2. oh we get in free?! Well then nevermind hahaThough snow would not give us homefield advantage the way our style of play is.
  3. got this message as well. The 8 dollars for tickets kind of sucks but im sure it will be ridiculously rowdy and belligerent tomorrow at the Jack for the game.I will be at least. And I'll put those suckeyes fans in their places.
  4. im officially pumped...31 hours early...thanks a lot.
  5. as bummed as i am and as much as i just feel like "who cares", HOW CAN YOU NOT BE EXCITED FOR A CHANCE TO GO TO ANY BOWL!?!?1?! Regardless of how watered down the system is, it's still a chance to play another game and get OVER .500 going into the new stadium. Isn't that what most of you would have taken at the start of the year? Let's just beat temple, get that bowl game and beat whatever sorry team we get to play. It will be a party to go to and an awesome time all around im sure.I want to go to a bowl!
  6. Starting to come together now.
  7. are you kidding me?!Big half backs? We dont have a decent quarterback?!First of all Jaquemain has battled dropped passes and tipped up passes for interceptions all year. He played an adequate to fairly good season. To blame him is ridiculous. The whole "big half backs" comment doesn't even make sense so Im not going to even respond to it.
  8. After enduring that mess yesterday, i wont be traveling anywhere again unless Akron Soccer or Akron Basketball is playing.I dont know if it's fair to say the players dont deserve our support, but the coaching staff sure as hell doesnt.
  9. It's simple, you lose this many games that you should have won, and you lose games to teams you SHOULD beat then you get fired....PERIOD.I love JD Brookhart, his story is awesome, he seems like a great person and players coach. But he needs to be gone, he hasn't got the job done and we cant afford to have a team with this talent by 5-7 (like this year) or worse next year in our new stadium.Fire him.
  10. haha no worries, we handled him real well and pissed him off when he was trying to sit down with the rowdies. We had a "I SUCK" sign with an arrow pointing down at him and held it behind him for a while until he noticed. He was a real dick to everyone and got really defensive when asked why he was wearing it.
  11. no doubt, as a recent highschool athlete (4 years ago) i can tell you that his best bet is to have his coach call the Akron coach and initiate contact. Sometimes great athletes fall through the cracks and under the recruiting radar.
  12. Is it weird that i think we can win this game? I want them to read this and laugh but we will see, if we shoot well and play that lockdown defense we are better than anyone thinks. I'm really excited about this year, maybe you can win and "rebuild"?
  13. That Blog i mentioned at the start of this thread. They asked the same questions to Beacon Journal writer Michael Beaven as well. Check it out, hope i wasn't too far off in my responses.
  14. Well it's not like Massilon couldn't take Can't in a game, they already beat them once.LINK"Paul Brown's 1940 Massillon Tigers were giants in their time. They gained national attention when they destroyed Can't State University, 47-0, in a spring practice game."
  15. I dont know if we have tickets but i would just go down there. No worries on selling out, a decent amount of students might show up for them but with the Suckeyes/Michigan game i doubt any alumni or others will be making the trip to athens from the surrounding areas. You will for sure get a good seat and probably a cheap ticket.I doubt there will be many students there at all, even if it wasn't OSU/Mich weekend. A close friend of mine goes to school there and he just came back home this week because OU just finished its Fall Quarter (exams were last week) and they are off until early Januaray, meaning that the vast majority of students have probably already left for break.forgot about that...but yes either way, there will be barely anyone there.
  16. Free throws! We were actually making them.=========================================And I'm still not quite sold on the new jerseys...but I must say the warmups are pretty sweet==================================================
  17. a few pictures for the out of town Zips fans that never get to see anything:Can't kid trying to sit in the Rowdies section....He was removed by police quickly.
  18. The first thing i thought when i saw that we were a 5 seed is, GOOD we are a quick finesse kind of team. We play real well in dry and fast conditions, when it's a blizzard or really rainy we tend to have our game slowed down and not play as physical as the other guys. This may be good to get to play away from the cold weather of Akron. But then i realized that we would most likely play at Michigan State with the first away game so it didnt really matter.

  20. hey now, a few of us (4-5) rowdies have always sat on the North side and held it down somewhat. Obviously you are right it has been pretty lame in the past, but even just 5 of us have been fairly loud (or at least fairly obnoxious) by ourselves. The rest of this year though, WATCH OUT. It's going to be nuts, let's just hope that at least a few hundred more of those other 1100 rowdies start showing up.
  21. I think it was pretty obvious who the better team was. And maybe we got a glimpse of what our team can really do.
  22. Do NOT take the route advised above, via I-70. Take the following route and I guarantee you will be there in 2 hours 50 minutes:Feel free to go that way, but you are on I-70 for 3 miles or so, so that's not any bit of a problem. I've driven both ways, on a Saturday the quickest way is 71.
  23. That's hilarious. I vote it for the funniest post of the year.Captain, let me burst your bubble and tell you that you still don't know how to spell Ubiparipovic But anyways you can work on ampai kita bita mita kwong or something like that.i second that, funniest post of the year...which makes me think, we should have a Zipsnation awards at the end of every year. Wait, do we have that!?
  24. just received this message today on facebook, and it got me thinking a bit ahead but read on this is about Winthrop as well....=============== Josh VerlinI write for the Pitt Panthers' basketball team (pittoaklandzoo.blogspot.com) and we're trying to get student's perspectives from the teams we face. As most Panthers fans don't know too much about the Akron Zips (other than Zeke Marshall), I was wondering if I could ask you a few basic questions about the team to give our student body a better understanding of the team we're going to play on Friday. Thanks,Josh Verlin===============me: Today at 11:59amsure sure, shoot...===============Josh VerlinThanks a lot- If you could write like 2-3 sentences for each answer, that'd be awesome...give our fans a little info and such.1) Who are your star players?2) What's the biggest strength for this team?3) Who's your coach?4) Give me three reasons the Zips will win this game.5) Give me three reasons the Zips will lose the game.===============I answered pretty thoroughly, hope i did not tip anything . Though I'm sure our strengths and weaknesses are pretty obvious to any observer. I think it would be interesting for everyone to put their answers to these questions but applied to the Winthrop game (i dont know if the Zips have much of a chance against Pitt)
  25. I'm leaving Friday afternoon to head down. It's not that bad of a trip actually, I've probably made it a good 10 times in the past 4-5 years. The route i would take would be I-71 south to Columbus then take I-70 east for about 3 miles then US-33 towards Lancaster and take that the rest of the way until the State Street exit and you are there. It's easy and it's the quickest. (as long as you dont hit rush hour traffic in columbus, but seeing as you are going on late friday or saturday i figure, you should be fine).Parking wise, there are a few decks in town that aren't too bad to park, but I've always parked at a friends house or a borrowed a pass to park in a residence lot so I'm not too knowledgeable. Though if you are just coming up day of, there is parking to the west of the stadium in the grass (the tailgating area).Where to eat, now that's a tough one. The place i always like to go to when i'm down there is PitaPit. It's on court street. And if you are looking for a bar to go to, that's where I would head as well. Court St and Union St...anywhere on that block you will find plenty of bars and resturaunts (Red Brick, Skippers, Court St Diner, and Lucky's are great places to eat and/or drink)Hope this helps you, hope to see a lot of you down there as well. Though after 24 hours of pregaming/tailgating I doubt i'll notice if any other Zips fan is there anyways.
