  1. well i'm going to continue voting for the next week or so until it ends...you never know.
  2. We should destroy every other MAC school at this. Tell everyone you know so we can take this thing over. edit: and BGSU has fallen 5 spots in less than an hour and we have risen a few spots.
  3. Pretty confident in Chiu staying but I'm not quite 100%.
  4. That would make sense...I can't believe they pay anything for conference teams to travel to them now.
  5. The game today was cancelled due to rain so there will be a doubleheader at Lee Jackson tomorrow starting at 12:30pm. What a big day for Zips baseball.
  6. I thought this year was the worst Spring Fest so far. 3oh3 was 'eh' but i can't complain, i hear some people like that crap (still think Jack's Mannequin would have been better, especially since it won the vote). But the things to do were lamer than ever and the fact that it was gated in would have been a good idea if the beer was actually allowed to be taken out of the pen they set up for drinkers. Why even serve beer if you have to be stuck in a gated area? Also, the patting down and wanding of people coming in was a bit ridiculous. Hopefully they learn from the mistakes and finally do something similar to 2010 when it was actually a nice event. Oh, and the baseball game was awesome. Great effort by the Zips in front of a big crowd.
  7. Good point...this is definitely a big deal for the MAC and Akron....we gotta think big!
  8. WOW...Schmitty scoring from everywhere possible tonight. FIVE GOALS, could have had six. Very impressive. Good to see someone stepping up and taking the shots.
  9. The good news: With the annual AK-Bar Crawl and Sumner Fest going on all day, there should be some interesting heckling going on from the Rowdies.
  10. 1) Completely forgot about Balki Bartokomous' great signature. 2) If Andrew Brown gets two outs into the fourth today vs CMU he will pass Liersemann to become the all-time Zips leader in innings pitched, passing Ross' current record of 334.1 IP.
  11. The football page is just a community page...no one runs it. The soccer page is in possession of UA but was originally started by a fan. Not sure why they haven't capitalized on that though.
  12. Three tennis players make All-MAC and the 16 year-old freshman gets freshman of the year honors. Btw, the Zips play NIU tomorrow at 3pm in the MAC Tournament.
  13. I personally like it. It really isn't that hard to get around.
  14. While I 100% agree with the economics part, I've personally noticed a rise in friends/family asking about the Zips and asking to come along to Baseball and basketball games just due to the success of the soccer team. They live in the area and soccer brought them in and now they are all around Zips fans. Now think about what would happen in an area that loves football if we had a successful and popular football team. Get people talking about the football team and people will surely latch on and become fans...of all sports.
  15. I think that a good football program could make soccer even bigger. More people talking about Zips football means more people interested in the Zips. There would be at least somewhat of a "trickle-down effect" for soccer (and other sports). More importantly, when there are nights in which both sports have home contests, having more people at the prior football game will no doubt increase soccer attendance.
  16. Romeo's Israeli team won the Balkan League championship this past weekend and he was named "Forward of the Year" (along with some other honors) yesterday. More info and highlights from the game. Gotta love Romeo hitting some treys.
  17. Men's Soccer and Men's Basketball definitely should be ahead of football in real attendance.
  18. Xavier's Mark Lyons not returning for senior season. He's eligible to play immediately if he graduates like he's supposed to.
  19. Once again we played well enough to blow a team out but didn't finish several times. Very concerning that was have so many people afraid to take open shots.
  20. Halftime: 1-1 Xavier starting to run out of steam after an aggressive first half. No way they have the depth to stay in this one.
  21. Hearing that it was a nice cross on the run from Quinn to set up a sliding shot by Reinaldo. XU had been playing well up to that point, controlling the ball for good stretches and getting a few opportunities. .
  22. If you're going to be around a computer: http://twitter.com/akronsportsnow One of our guys should be heading down there.
  23. Cincitucky*** there.
  24. Another update on former Zips basketball players playing professionally.
  25. Akron's hot-hitting second baseman has Begun to put the Zips in position for a postseason
