He hasn't? He identified DW13 as a QB for his system and got him. Bowden recruited Woodson, who looks more comfortable than Pohl in this system. He brought in Chapman, who has three years of eligibility left, and certainly looks to have more potential than Pohl and Woodson. He recruited Kincade, which no-one complained about. Kincade transfering is not a bad sign IMO, it means that this program has found a guy better than the guy we all thought was going to be our future. The plan with Kincade appears to have been, Redshirt 1st year, be second behind Pohl in his senior year, than take the reigns Sophomore year. That plan has changed because Pohl isn't getting the job done. If Chapman lives up to his potential (which is far greater than Pohl's potential at this point), than we're good there for three years: leaving Kincade in the dust (hence his transfer). The only constant here is: Pohl. Pohl is not a Bowden guy.

The Importance of Giving Ohio.com Hits

Well said! So I just went to their website to checkout to see if there were any new articles on Zips FB, you know...to give them viewership...Annoying popup ad that when you click "close" takes you to the ad website. Finally get it closed, try to click on sports: Zips, but the drop down menu kept phasing in and out because of the imbeded KIA ad at the top. People don't want to go to a website to be bombarded with ads that block you from getting where you want to go. But does anyone here work in the advertising industry who can answer a question for me? When you place an ad in the print form, you're not being guaranteed anything. You're paying for the access to that media's audience. You don't know if people are actually responding or reading it. It's based on access, not guarantee. Yet internet advertising doesn't work that way. It works on clicks and "views". Why? Doesn't the same principal apply? -
Yes he is, IMO. Just like DW13 was in 2012. I think Bowden can find the right guy when he goes out and gets him. Pohl was never his guy, but he gave him a chance. Pohl was a redshirt freshman when Bowden took-over the team. DW13 wasn't a sure thing either...but he certainly worked out because Bowden had previously identified DW13 as his guy. Chapman's transfer to this team was probably the same. I don't think the experience part is going to be a disadvantage. Pohl was relatively inexperienced when he took over the team in 2013, and took the team to new heights. He just doesn't have the skillset to take us to the next level. Chapman does, or at least it appears that he does.

Is it time to start a "giving your only bid to buffalo is a waste" statement?
-
Urban didn't know each of his QBs was equally the same, he said as much. Perhaps I'd agree with you that Urban knows what he has in each, he recruited 2/3 of them right? Bowden knew he didn't have the guy he wanted, which is why he's brought in Hoyer, Wood and Chapman. Pohl isn't his guy. Never was. Everyone here pretty much agrees DW13 was fantastic. If Bowden got it right with him, why should we doubt Bowden's prowess to bring in another guy? Even Woodson (a Bowden guy) showed more promise IMO than Pohl ever did. Hirschman was a pretty decent grab too, who looked good in his limited action here. Why would we doubt Bowden's ability to get a guy? Though I'll gladly eat my words if this season tanks because of the QB like it did last year.
-
I can make that comparison because you implied that having a QB competition in a coach's fourth year is somehow a bad thing. I disagree. He's brought in a number of QBs to this team to compete. I doubt Kincade would be transferring out if he were the best QB in the room. I doubt Kincade would be transfering if he was the second best QB in the room behind Pohl. The writing is on the wall.

Something with the 14 seeds up against 3 seeds today...
-
The Defending National Champions also haven't figured out their QB situation...so I'm not sure that's a strong argument. Don't take it as a personal attack though
-
One of the better things of this forum is that there are a LOT of different opinions. Defend your point, don't tuck-tail and run.
-
I was just playing the devil's advocate to a-zips point, it was reaching I don't think our AD is all that bad, but I also don't think he's all that good. He's vanilla, leaving a lot to be desired...as well as a lot that could be worse.
-
I generally agree with this statement, but only because the 2010, and 2011 versions of the Zips were just that bad. DW13 and Marquelo Suel were fun to watch. The Tennessee Game remains my all-time favorite Zips game that I've attended in person, above the Michigan game. But looking back on more than just the highlights, that team was HORRIBLE. ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUSLY HORRIBLE. Thinking on how bad that team was compared to what we have now, it's a huge improvement. If we could get a QB like DW13, who can sling the ball around and whom has a level of confidence doing so, I think we're in business. Oh god...the UMass game...

I don't want to fill up the board with a quote from you, so I'll throw up the empty quote box here. BINGO! BINGO, BINGO, BINGO! I'm sure Pohl is a great guy, but we need more from the field General.
-
Not engaging students meaningfully is also "financially irresponsible".
-
Or you simply collect $800 a year from roughly 22,000 students each. Not to hard to be "financially responsible" IMO, that's money that is GUARANTEED to come in, regardless of what you do, so > 80% of your job is already done for you when it comes to budgeting. Hiring coaches, that you have to fire in two-years due to poor performance and must continue to pay, is something I'd consider financially irresponsible.
-
Why can't we ever get a draw like this?
-
Was it though? (I'm playing the Devil's advocate here) That "most successful system" was 1-11 with a quarterback that ran it the way it is supposed to be, and was 10-14 with other QBs. Clearly something's gotta give. Either we hope one of the QBs we have will be able to run it, or we adjust our system to our personnel. I think Bowden's going that route. We've experimented with having a QB who can run the system (DW 1-11). We've experimented with a QB who can't really run the system the way it's supposed to be run (10-14). It's time for a change. But that change doesn't have to be too big does it? Bowden has said time and time again, he needs play makers who can extend plays.
-
Though I'm bummed about this, isn't this good news for our offense? It (hopefully) means that Bowden is adapting his game to our league, not continue using a system that clearly hasn't paid off. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the focus of the offense was a "up-tempo" run by a pocket-passer. DW13 and KP16 seemed to be in the pocket almost exclusively. The more successful teams in the MAC, since Bowden has been here, haven't been running that system.
-
Yes I'd say you were one of the few (and I don't mean that offensively). From my observation the up-tempo no huddle offense was slower when Pohl ran it. We have a very small sample size for Woodson, but the offense seemed to run faster when he was under center then when Pohl was.
-
There's 6 listed on the roster: Pohl, Woodson, Wood, Chapman, Kincade, Hoyer.
-
Ugh really?
-
Which QBs are those? Chapman...Kincade?...?...?
-
This is HUGE for the Lady Zips. We've gone from being one of the worst programs in NCAA D-I women's basketball, to making the NCAA tournament. This season was the best season in school history, W-L wise right? (correct me if I'm wrong). We lost in the Semi-finals and STILL got an NIT invite. Hopefully this is a sign of the success to come.

I think everyday you're able to read a certain amount for free? I have no idea...I know I've been locked out before because of the paywall. Though: I've stopped reading the ABJ because over the last 5+years of reading it, I've seen it slowly devolve from the Best Paper in NEO to a rag like all the rest. Am I a lil bitter? -
+1!. But it'll never happen at UA. Because the people running UA don't take students seriously.

+1. I used to hold the ABJ at rather high regard. Now I don't. Messing up Zips Ads, messing up scores, who the opponent was, who future opponents are, and the dates of the game...makes the ABJ a rag. Also: I still don't agree with the contention that the more we read the articles, the more they'll produce them. No, the more you write QUALITY content, the more people will read it. Why would anyone on ZNO read the ABJ (and pay for it) when our members are better writers, researchers, investigators (etc) than someone who gets paid to do it? I learn more about the Akron Zips, their history, their internal struggles on ZNO than I EVER have in the ABJ. It's a rag.
