I've watched and listened to about a million OSU wrestling courtesy of my office-mate...and all I gotta say is

No foot in mouth here... I share an office with a wrestling coach... To even quote yourself " If you were 7 feet tall even without much talent at all the basketball team would probably find a spot for you, same for football if you weighed 250 pounds. " To....most of those kids already play Basketball and Football, and despite being bad at both sports, still will play those two sports over wrestling 99% of the time...that's at least my experience with sharing my office with the wrestling coach. Its a very small group of people to cater an entire D-I sport too. I give props to the Lacrosse team that reps Akron and pays for it themselves. And the paintball (club?). Both teams wear the Blue And Gold, and wear the logo. But it's just truth that no-one cares.

We can only hope-so.

Akron has officially overtaken Can't in the no-buddy-cares-PNC-Wagon-Wheel-Challenge! Akron has never won, so beating Can't in anything is wonderful. If only Can't' had a Men's Soccer team, we'd beat them every year.

For the better half of almost three years, the Lady Zips have been much more fun to watch than the Men. I'd say out of the three years I've been watching them consistently, this year is the year they've been the most inconsistent, but I attribute that to the young players. Lady Zips are going to be fun to watch for the next couple of years.

Now that I've had a chance to sleep on it, though I'm still disappointed, I'm proud of this team for what it's done this season. It's been frustrating, but we've seen some promise out of our young players. My biggest concern is that we're going to lose Deji this year, one of our most dynamic playmakers, and we're going to have the senior reins taken over by McAdams and Kretzer. Our young players are leaders in their own right, but we're going to need McAdams and Kretzer to step up both next year, and the remainder of the season.

I'm pretty sure the "only been around for a few decades" thing was aimed at me the 20-something . But very nice post Jason.

I feel like I'm reading a bunch geezers right now (I really do mean the affectionately) But I've touched on this before...Students also work a lot more today, while in school, than they ever did before. Most of those beautiful dorms/off campus student housing are extremely over priced, and sit largely unfilled (out of campus ones have never been to full capacity). $700 for one person. They can't afford it, and this generation of college kids is waking up to it. Those off-campus student housing complexes charging $700 are going to be in a world of hurt. 401 Lofts, the Depot, 22 Exchange, Envision and now the new one...don't be fulled, they aren't full. They've never been full. Students take Furhill over any of those, because it's about $250 a month less. But you guys are right on one thing: "why leave all those comforts to brave the polar vortex to watch a basketball game...". BINGO! DING DING DING DING DING! Why go to a basketball game that doesn't even try to engage the students in anything meaningful. You've got to treat students as people, or you'll lose them.

No. THE University of Akron has never officially been Akron University. Now I've heard that _________________ (fill in the blank) University was a popular trend decades ago when refering to any University, regardless if it was the official name or not. At least it was in Tennessee where my mom and Aunt went

LZip I agree with a lot about what you say in the long post. I too am a recent alum, only a couple years removed, however I think there are small things UA could do that could increase student attendance. Though it would take engaging the student body instead of the passive nature they've had basically my entire experience with UA.

+1. We've gone over this point before. If we pay $15,000 to get students to go to games...it's really nothing, and VERY worth it if it's executed with a fun game-day experience. Seeing as how students pay $800 a year to support athletics. That's around, oh, $17,000,000, or like 70% of the athletics budget... But $15,000 is a gross over-estimation anyways. Now Skip, I like you...but I'm going to challenge that. I'd argue that there are just as many students who want to be at the games today, that there were in your day. There's a good number of students at every game, they're spread out because there really isn't a student section. Without any actual numbers behind it I can't back that claim up...but student attendance records were destroyed by this generation, so apparently there are more going to games today than ever did "back-in-the-day".
