  1. Thought I would get this thread up because, well, somebody has to do it! The Zips head to Bowling Green Saturday to face the 3-4 Falcons. The Falcons have wins over Georgia Tech, Buffalo and Eastern Illinois and losses to Michigan, OU, Miami and Liberty. Sophomore RB Terion Stewart (5’8” 225 lbs.) leads Falcons rushers at 70.6 ypg. Stewart played at Sandusky High School and was Northwest District Offensive Player of the Year. He ran for 91 yards against the Zips in 2021 but was not enrolled at BG last year missed the entire 2022 season due to academic and mental health issues. He is coming off of a 123 yard performance on 25 carries against Buffalo. Connor Bazelak, a senior QB from Kettering Alter is a transfer who played at Missouri and Indiana. He is completing 59% of his passes and is averaging 189 ypg passing.
  2. Exactly, I don't care whether the kids come from downtown Akron or Timbuktu or whether they are fresh 18 year-old greenhorns or 30 year old portal players, just give me competent players on the field, especially at the most important positions like QB. If indeed our talent level at the other positions has improved as some suggest, an even average MAC level QB should be able to lead the team to wins.
  3. I think playing the young kids may actually resulted them being more likely to stay rather than hit the transfer portal in the off season.
  4. 22 days to opening day. It can't get here fast enough, especially with the misery that is Zips football. Some things I am looking forward to seeing: 1) the offense often running through Enrique in the high post along with Enrique's improved shooting; 2) how the team uses its depth, especially at guard. I really think Shammah Scott can be a difference maker; 3) the development of Darrion Baker- this kid can be a beast inside which will free up Enrique when they are on the floor together.
  5. I'd like to see the kids from the area that end up at other similar schools stick around to play at Akron but: 1) there aren't that many of them, 2) often, kids want to spread their wings and go away, and 3) why would a kid want to commit to a program as bad as the Zips' right now?
  6. Good Lord, just a week ago nearly everyone was b!+ch!ng about how bad Irons was and now we're clamoring for him as the guy they could be winning games with. Welcome to Zips football.
  7. Groundhog day. Here we are again kicking the can down the street to next season. Sigh. If Akron football was a business it would be shut down in under a month.
  8. His Nebraska teams at least won 34% of their games.
  9. Well, sigh, here we are again.
  10. We're on pace for one first down for each quarter.
  11. Yes, they should do something, like win an effing game, before they start the talking.
  12. 4 or 5 worse quarterbacks?
  13. Agreed. though maybe they approached a number of potential promising recruits who looked up and thought "hmmm, 5 wins since 2019?, no thanks."
  14. Pretty good preview here- https://www.hustlebelt.com/2023/10/12/23913137/central-michigan-chippewas-vs-akron-zips-college-football-game-preview-week-7-2023
  15. There was obviously a substantial curve!
  16. I guess somebody has to post a game thread! The Zips head to Mount Pleasant this Saturday to face CMU in their Homecoming Game. The Chippewas come into the game at 3-3 win off of a 37-13 loss at Canada. They've beaten EMU, Southern Alabama and New Hampshire while falling to Canada, Michigan State and Notre Dame.
  17. Only time will tell and at this point our only real option is to sit and wait.
  18. With what we've seen since, Owens looks like freaking Knute Rockne. It's so damn bad some people yearn for Bowden.
  19. Other than us having to watch bad football the other result of this ongoing losing is on the recruiting trail. It has to be extra difficult to convince a kid to jump into a program that's won 6 games since 2019.
  20. Horror genre?
  21. I think we can blame him some for driving the program so far into the dirt that it required a full rebuild (even obviously a multi-year rebuild).
  22. They lost by 6 touchdowns to a one win MAC team. A little tough to be optimistic today. He took on an awful team but I think we were all hoping for more improvement a season and a half in.
  23. Get use to it. This school is in no position to eat another contract. All we can do is settle in and pray that something finally clicks.
  24. I wish you and your son well, but online forums tend not to be fun places for the parents of players or their children.
  25. Can we win out and still be bowl eligible? Pfffffft.
