  1. Game day! Looks like they've finally identified the #2 on offense we clamoured for. It took Trimble a little time to come up to speed after a year off but he now appears to be at full stride. Hopefully, Dailey is just taking a little longer and will come around in what is now becoming mid-season. Wynn appears to be coming up to speed and I am curious to see if his role increases. It's also that time in the season where rotations start to get ironed down and I am curious to see who settles in and who starts getting more time on the bench. This team is so deep that some worthwhile players are unfortunately going to start doing more sitting.
  2. I'd say that UA's chances of hiring a high school coach are increased by the fact that they're likely to have a high school budget for any hire.
  3. Agreed. I brought up Tyrrell as he's brought up in nearly every other conversation on here. I'm not sure he's ready for the jump. As far as successes, successes and failures are pretty few and far between as the sample size is very small. Lots of guys who went from high school to be an assistant then to HC on a college level (Freeze, Malzahn). The only one I can think of who made the big jump successfully was that dirtbag Art Briles.
  4. I'd be perfectly content with Jacki Windon sitting next to an empty chair. I can see what the play by play guy tells me and don't need the incessant cliches. I'd pay for technology that allowed me to listen to some announcers on broadcasts while cutting out the others. To Reghi's credit, I've grown a little accustomed to him. I suspect I've just gotten used to it rather than him having improved. Next to some of those we've been subjected to in ESPN+ road games, he's freaking Curt Gowdy.
  5. Beacon article on Trimble- https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2021/01/22/university-akron-mens-basketball-trimble-making-presence-known/6664359002/
  6. Game is at 5 p.m. Another odd one.
  7. The Zips head off to Kalamazoo Saturday to face WMU @ 5pm. May we have a moment of silence in honor of Steve Hawkins please? The Hawkins-less Broncos are 2-8, having wins over CMU and Adrian (yo Adrian!). Their top 2 leading scorers from last season, Michael Flowers and Brandon Johnson, bailed on WMU in the off-season after Hawkins was shown the door. 6’0” sophomore guard B.Artis White leads the Broncos with 14.8 ppg. 6’9” senior forward Greg Lee leads rebounding at 7.4 rpg while scoring 9.7 ppg.
  8. That Lane kid is a load. 205 pounds on their roster. Ummmm, no.
  9. I wonder what ever happened to the plan to put a bunch of fan submitted photos on a banner and put it behind the bench.
  10. ...and some more time for Wynn.
  11. Not so sound the alarm too early, but they're letting another lousy team stick around.
  12. I wish Trimble could shoot.
  13. You're doing better. You're only a couple of days behind!
  14. Good point. Wynn is 6'6" however (not that he's ready). My preference would be to stick with Dailey for now.
  15. You're replacing a wing with a post guy in that scenario which messes up spacing, etc. I had hoped Dailey was coming around there with a couple of better games and then he disappeared. If I were to take him out of the lineup, I'd probably look to move Tribble, Clarke or Wynn into the lineup.
  16. I'd not heard it was a money issue. I'd heard he was in line to get it then got back doored by a wealthy alum and backroom politics.
  17. Since nobody has said it and it seems like an obligatory response every time this comes up- Tim Tyrrell.
  18. My immediate thought was Jimmy Haslam and Tennessee. Yikes! LOL. I don't have a problem with the idea, that's just the situation that came to mind.
  19. GT's latest- https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2021/01/20/university-akron-mens-basketball-team-begins-develop-chemistry/4235205001/
  20. To answer an earlier question, I would prefer a young up and comer. If Arth leaves, my prediction is that the administration ties the hands of the AD by severely limiting the budget available for the hire. As such, they'll promote some unknown from within or get somebody willing to be underpaid for a chance (or second chance). I said it on another thread, I could see this going like WMU's basketball hire last year when they canned Hawkins and hired an unknown on staff assistant at a bargain basement rate. At that point, you just hope they found the needle in the haystack.
  21. I am okay with dark as long as it doesn't transition onto the floor, like EMU.
  22. Amen man. Drives me nuts how many of the MAC arenas make it seem like they're playing in a cave.
  23. It may well have been an exposure thing. Heck, I've never heard of the Lake Effect Conference or many of its members (Willoughby Andrews Osborne Academy, Elyria First Baptist Christian, Austinburg Grand River, Chagrin Falls Geauga, North Olmsted HEARTS for Jesus Christ, Cleveland Horizon Science, North Ridgeville Lake Ridge Academy, Sagamore Hills Lawrence and Cleveland St. Martin De Porres). As a contrast, K-lac as a 7 footer wasn't All-Conference first or second team as I recall and he was recruited. He's now playing 10 minutes and scoring 2 points a game at Walsh.
