  1. This solid enough? https://kentstatesports.com/news/2020/12/17/kent-state-mens-basketball-update.aspx
  2. He won't get it until the meals stop coming.
  3. The PCCC Animal Husbandry Center is a mere minutes from my palatial estate, so I have been to a number of the games there. There's something magical about not being able to see a quarter of the floor from GA seats. Almost as bad as looking through a glass divider.
  4. Our old rivals from Athens come into an empty JAR Tuesday at 2:00 to face the Zips. Heck, we can’t actually go to the games so why not put them during the day when we have to work and can’t see them? Grrrr. Preston continues to lead the Bobcats at 20.8 ppg and 7.8 apg. 6’8” James Madison transfer Dwight Wilson is making a big contribution with 15.4 ppg and 9.2 rpg. At 4-2, they have beaten Chicago State, NC A & T, CSU and Purdue NW, while falling 77-75 at Illinois and 81-67 at Marshall. They were picked second in the MAC pre-season poll. Jeff Boals really seems to have had a quick impact in Athens.
  5. Bummer and maybe a blessing. Guess I need to start the Game 4 thread.
  6. Survey says....4th of 14 in the 10 preseason poll. Only time will tell. Returning 5 starters from a 19 win team is certainly a good start.
  7. Agreed, lots of getting beat on things like back door cuts and not boxing out. I'm betting that will be emphasized in practice this week.
  8. Thank goodness the Doylestown area went with the name Chippewa or you may have ended up with Doylestown Doylies. I'd be happy with Chipps!
  9. I don't have a good feeling about this. Their transfer talent is good and they seem to be ahead of the Zips as far as coming up to speed. It doesn't help that it is in their barn. I wish this was later in the schedule. It's also going to be weird not playing them in the regular season finale.
  10. Dailey is second on the team in minutes. Trimble 8th. They've shot it 30 times (Dailey 17/Trimble 13). That tells me Groce recognizes their talent and trusts them. If he trusts them, I trust them. I'm not willing to judge them after a mere two games.
  11. That kid is a player. Against Hoban he looked like the one kid on the SVSM team that looked like he could play for Hoban. Romeo Travis is his uncle so there's certainly a nice UA history with the family. He's also a top notch sprinter and a starter on SVSM's basketball team.
  12. I would say that many of the criticisms coming out of the St. B game are the very criticisms we saw early in the past couple of seasons. That's a lesson to us to be patient. The MAC tournament isn't won in December. From here it is a slow build with the completion date set for March 10th to 13th at 1 Center Court, Cleveland, OH 44115.
  13. I expect Dailey and Trimble to come around. Don't forget, they've been limited to practice for nearly two years.
  14. Speaking of Shane Hamm, he won the MVP in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/12/15/hoban-football-shane-hamm-blue-grey-game-high-school-football/3910912001/
  15. No. Maybe he means Marshall?
  16. GT's story on the game- https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2020/12/15/akron-zips-fumble-their-way-loss-st-bonaventure-bonnies/3913575001/
  17. The Zips head to the Portage County Agricultural Demonstration and Animal Husbandry Center Saturday to face the 3-1 Flushes. The Flushes have bested Northern Kentucky, Purdue Fort Wayne and Detroit Mercy while falling in OT to Virginia. Portland State transfer Michael Nuga leads Mr. PInky's squad at 17.8 ppg with 7th year senior Danny Pippen at 17.1 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Temple transfer Justyn Hamilton leads the team at 9.5 rpg while scoring 13 ppg. PCCC with the new talent and four solid games under their belt will be quite a challenge for the Zips. An empty PCADAHC will certainly be an odd setting for such a high intensity rivalry game.
  18. I only got to watch 6 or 7 minutes. From what I saw, they are definitely still in early season mode, where they usually are in mid-November when playing the Carolina directionals and Tennessee regionals. Figuring things out, ironing out lineup and defensive rotations, feeling each other out. Lots of new faces that will take time to gel. St. Bonaventure is a really good team and will be one of the top teams in the A10. They are better than any MAC team the Zips will see. Pleasantly surprised by Freeman. Marshall is much more of a player, and a different type of player, than I anticipated. I could see him as the starting 4 when things settle out. Sure wish we knew what was up with Currie. Oh, and we're all wrong. The Zips website currently has them beating St. B 81-74 and the Zips at 2-0. I think Groce walked into the post-game presser and told everyone the Zips had won and that anything to the contrary was fake news and fraud.
  19. Let's go Zips!
  20. I once heard an old-timer say that Dennison's biggest sin was taking D2 football with him.
  21. Your post struck a good chord with me in that you are one of the few on here to ackowledge that one can be critical of Arth and Bowden at the same time. Since Bowden's departure people want to characterize everyone on here as Pro-Bowden/Anti-Arth or Pro-Arth/Anti-Bowden. I for one was anti-Bowden and my jury is still out on Arth, and I am critical of some of the things I have seen. At one win in two years, the jury is definitely leaning towards convicting Arth but it is still out.
  22. Hey, you have to be a real badass to pull that off!
  23. I guess the trick in being a Zips football fan is intellectually distinguishing between hopes and expectations. In reality, given the odd nature of 2020 and what they had coming in, expectations should have been pretty low. As far as hopes, I hoped they'd be competitive in most of the game and they fell short there. I was not troubled by the Buffalo loss. Buffalo killed everyone. The Zips weren't going to be the team to avoid that misery. Looking back, they were competitive for much of the OU game, half of the PCCC game and beat BG.
  24. Curious to see the rotations Tuesday against a good opponent. Groce usually has a number of less competitive games to test rotations and combinations. Here, there's no such luxury. Very interested to see or hear what's up with Currie. 4 garbage minutes against Cedarville. Recovering from sickness? Attitude adjustment by the coaches? Not yet up to speed? Hopefully, Tuesday will bring some answers.
