  1. The Zips travel to Huntington, WV Saturday night to face the 4-3 Thundering Herd. Last year's game at the JAR was one of the more entertaining games of the year. Junior 6-3 guard Jon Elmore leads Marshall at 25.3 ppg, with CH Burks (Jr., 6-4, G) at 18.6 ppg and Ajdin Panava (Jr., 6-9, F)at 17.6 ppg. This game should be a good barometer for the progress of the Zips.
  2. Mocs is actually an abbreviation of "Mock Turtlenecks." You might have noticed they were wearing them in warm ups.
  3. They play UT-Martin next week. I'm so conflicted!
  4. Good and bad tonight. Glad to see Ivey get into the flow of the game. If he gets out on the break and gets a couple of shots to go, it completely opens up his game. I am very pleased with the improved free throw shooting. It is becoming more and more apparent that Salyes is our best option as a big man. I was also very happy to see a zone dropped in unexpectedly. The 1-3-1 with two minutes left threw a curve UTC was not expecting. Good to see Kostelac get some minutes as we'll need big man minutes as the season wears on. As I said a couple of weeks ago, Utomi may lead the MAC in scoring. With our limited post play, we need him and others on the boards as they were tonight. Interior defense was really iffy tonight. 40 points in the paint are too many. Also, the defense was out of position too often when trying to jump into passing lanes. Parrish gave up too many in that fashion tonight. All in all, more god than bad. Nice start so far to the Groce era.
  5. So many tickets tack fouls called tonight.
  6. Hippity hop ball race!!! Yawn.
  7. Ugly stretch...
  8. Just don't want to put this team away.
  9. Ivey much more in the flow tonight. May not show in the stats, but he looks a little more comfortable. The quick pace is helping.
  10. Let's go Zips. Put 'em away early tonight so that Clarky can get home early and sleep off this cold.
  11. George Mason doesn't fill the Hilton.
  12. No reason to hold anything back at this point. Take some chances and let it all hang out.
  13. Jimond actually looks a little like he did 2 years ago- a kid pressing too hard rather than letting the game come to him. He needs to get out in transition and get some easy buckets then all will be well.
  14. I was hoping it was short for Water Moccasins. That's much cooler than some cute little songbird.
  15. The Choo-Choos of UT Chattanooga head into the JAR Tuesday night to face the Zips. The Mocs are 3-3 having beaten Hiwasee, Alabama State and Tennessee Wesleyan with losses to Wyoming, Jacksonville State and UAB. Their head coach is a familiar name, Lamont Paris, who many will remember as a name mentioned for the Zips job last year. Their leading scorer is Makinde London, a 6-10 junior forward who started his college career at Xavier.
  16. Ivey looks a little lost. He also looks to be pressing on the offensive end. He needs to take a deep breath, focus on defense and let the offense come to him. This team will need a viable third option to be successful and he's that guy.
  17. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for the defense!
  18. Well, that's appropriate as many of them played like they just got home from their day jobs working baggage at the airport!
  19. We should be nice. Paul Haynes is likely coaching his last game!
  20. So, he's doing better this week?
  21. Wooohoooooooo. Now let's come out in the second half, step on their necks and put this away.
  22. Ugly first half. Kato 3 for 15 and another blocked punt!
  23. Damn special teams. Lucky to have gotten away with that one.
  24. Great fast start!
  25. #ButlerAlsoOfTheMidwestButALittleEast. LOL
