  1. Quote from the Beacon article this morning concerns me- “I thought our effort and attitude were atrocious,” Zips coach John Groce said. Quite simply, this team on most nights for the rest of the season will play teams with more talent. That's the reality of the situation in which the program was placed by Dambrot's departure. As such, they can't ever afford bad attitudes and efforts in any game as out-hustling and out-efforting the other team is their only chance in many games.
  2. 6 or 7 minutes into the second half a Buffalo guard went down the middle of the lane for an uncontested dunk. Groce called timeout and as he steamed out onto the floor he spun around, pointed his the glasses in his hand at Sayles and emphatically asked "what the f*** is wrong with you?" Pretty much the highlight of the night and a summary of what I just saw. Buffalo is very good, So many athletic interchangeable parts. Cotton should get a start Saturday. Parrish can get comfy on the bench for a while.
  3. Groce is trying all kinds of lineups to get them going.
  4. Utomi is running the sideline under the direction of a trainer like maybe he has a leg issue going on
  5. Well, at least in the Taekwondo is entertaining. LeBron really blew it by not showing up for this.
  6. They can burn the tape of that abominable half.
  7. We have the rec center guy and 3 freshmen in now.
  8. The Zips are leaving no aspect out of this $hi+ show.
  9. Awful start. Even the clocks are giving up.
  10. I can't imagine him passing up the taekwondo demonstration.
  11. We get a taekwondo demonstration at half tonight. I can barely contain myself.
  12. Ugh, wish I could say I was surprised. He was probably recovering from that trip to Toledo. Oh, wait, that article was written by Beacon Staff.
  13. Looks like he's getting a lot of playing time- 18 minutes a game.
  14. He's just such an angry 4 year old that I loved yelling at him. He's awfully successful however.
  15. I must admit that I miss screaming at Bobby Hurley.
  16. The 9-5 Buffalo Bulls (going into the 1/6 Ball St. game) come into the JAR Tuesday night to open up the Zips’ home MAC season. The Bulls opened the MAC season by beating Toledo 104-94 at home. Their record is a little deceiving as they’ve had close losses to Syracuse, Cincinnati and Rhode Island. 6 foot Missouri transfer senior guard Wes Clark and 6-3 junior guard C.J. Massinburg lead the Bulls scoring at 21 ppg. Massinburg also leads rebounding at 7.9 ppg. Buffalo was voted as the top team in the East in the MAC pre-season poll, receiving 24 of the 30 first place votes. Massinburg and junior Nick Persons were named to the pre-season All- MAC East squad.
  17. Did we go from awful against dribble penetration and good against the perimeter under KD to good against dribble penetration and awful on the perimeter with Groce? LOL!
  18. I hope I am wrong Captain! Still early.
  19. That's quite a trio when you add Jackson to Fletcher and Sanford.
  20. I really wish we could get past the persistent "Dambrot argument" on here. There's way too much knee jerk reaction on both sides of the "argument." Just because a poster supports Groce, likes some of the changes and may have been unhappy with certain aspects of the team under Dambrot (i.e. strength of schedule, lack of tournament success...), that doesn't mean they don't appreciate everything KD did for this program. On the other side of the "argument", one can be an unabashed KD supporter and still wholeheartedly support the Zips and Groce. I for one, was critical of some of the aspects of the KD program, but appreciate everything he did. He certainly made UA basketball relevant. If I'd have been overall unhappy, I'd have voted by not consistently renewing my season tickets and showing up to every game. I'm certainly not giving up those 20 win seasons and MAC titles. Thus far, I'm happy with Groce and that will keep my butt in the seats with good memories of KD AND hopes for Groce's future with the Zips.
  21. The Zips are in for a long season on the road. I'm afraid the misery continues tonight.
  22. Do I think a UA NCAA tourney run is probable? No. However, I've seen enough of teams like CSU, Richmond, George Mason, VCU, Davidson and so on to think there's not a shot under the right circumstances. Also, what were once great Cinderellas like Butler, Gonzaga and Wichita State have transitioned into becoming powerhouses, so I am not willing to concede UA can't some day have a run.
  23. About .500. But I've only been here 6 years.
  24. Happy to do it Zip JD!
