  1. Frank always does that, doesn't he?! Damn!
  2. If Bowden doesn't use a tight end like a tight end,and that means you actually have to throw to him, it doesn't matter how good he 'might' be. If you noticed in the Toledo game, they were deliberately trying to get match-ups with their huge TE,#80 on Akron's small safeties. They did. No further comment at this time.
  3. Good thing Akron played Miami early or there would be another L in that column. No MAC East again. Just hang on to go 6-6 and whatever leftover bowl. Lotta work to do before August 2017.
  4. Whatever the announced attendance was,the actual number was far lower. I needed binos. to find other people in the stands. Anyway, the problems with this years version of this team go beyond a defense that can't rush the passer, stop the run or tackle.(Hello Coach Amato). And,its not just because of injuries. This has been brewing all season. I am as concerned about the inability of the OFFENSIVE side of the ball to adjust to changing circumstances. We know Woodson got hurt in the App. State game. Correct? When the QB is the focus of the offense as he is in a Bowden offense it is very likely he will get injured sometime during the season. I still keep wondering why,Bowden does not take some of the pressure off of his QB and his defense by featuring the run more. Last night was an example. Woodson was not that sharp(17-33-1 pick). It was clear he did not want to run when the opportunities were there, wisely I suppose trying to protect his shoulder. When, Bowden finally did go to D.J. Jones maybe too late,he managed 72 yards in 11 carries. It might be wise to emphasize the run from the jump, maybe 2 backs with an H to take some of the game off Woodson's arm and to keep the defense off the field. You can always run motion off of that to open the field. Anyway, hope they can pull one more out to at least become Bowl eligible, for what its worth.
  5. Unfortunately for the Zips,at this point in the season, teams tend to be what they have been up to this point against QUALITY opposition. It has not appeared that Amato has figured out his defensive personnel. Whether they are that bad or he just hasn't been able to put them in favorable positions doesn't matter now. Unless the offense can run the ball EFFECTIVELY and keep the D off the field,Wednesday might be another long night. Any chance to win the East hangs on tomorrow!
  6. How do they stop the run?
  7. Sorry. At this point the MAC Championship game, not the French Fry Bowl is what was in reach and what counts! Hope this doesn't end up as another 6-6 and watching OU go to Detroit!
  8. Major gag job about to be processed by the ZIPS.No excuses. Lose this one it will come back to haunt them!
  9. By the way,my bad. Zips ran the ball 30 times, attempted 41 passes.
  10. Zips ran the ball what,40 times against Testical Tech? Threw ,what 30 times. Just keep that ratio the rest of the season, like some of us said, they will win the games they need to win. If Bowden/Milwee don't know by now the passing game can be even better if the run is respected...well. Look, your RB was the division player of the week....!!!!! Woodson is still hurt. Give him a break!
  11. Please don't pummel me for coming in late this season. But,I deliberately decided not to post until after the WMU game. I figured that would give the truest indication of how the ZIPS actually stack up against top notch MAC teams. That did not go well. Don't think having Woodson play was going to make a big difference in the outcome. Zips may have put up a few points but not enough against that quality opponent. The offense has no real options at this point. The running game is non-existent. Whether thats mostly play calling I don't know for sure. Could be but that part of the offense is not being used. And,with Woodson out(for whatever reason) it should be.Go to two backs, more H-back. Take some of the game out of Chapman's hands and try to keep the D off the field. Chapman obviously is not viable against good competition. Nothing more to say. JoJo Natson is a warrior!!!! Too bad Lane appears otherwise. If they are not careful he may become the ZIPS next David Harvey. Upfront the defense has pretty much been a mess all season. Yes they lost a lot. Yes there have been some injuries but the inability to even slow down the running game at this point in the season is really amazing. No D-linemen there who are really noticeable at least the way Amato is scheming them. Secondary has been hung out to dry but there have been some decent individual plays back there. At this point the only way the ZIPS go to Ford Field is to 'Beat The East'. They have to beat Buffalo,BGSU and OU. Too much to expect wins over BSU and Toledo. Frankly, with the BSU and Buffalo games within 5 days of each other, the UB game is far more important. But,unless they handle UB,BGSU and finally beat OU,the rest doesn't matter. One last comment, left the game a little early. Caught the last few minutes on TV. One of the TV commentators said that WMU had some really good players AND a really good TEAM. He said Akron had some good players but was not a good TEAM. Ummm. Here's hoping for better things ahead.
  12. If you want some details and have not already done so,go to the Akron PD website. Get on report look up. Date of incident 5-8-16 at 320 Power St. Misd. assault but not filed until 9-16-16. There was a break in at that same address on 5-14.
  13. Nice find on that article. I am old enough to have attended most if not all those games in the late '60's until I moved out of the area in the '80's. Couple of takes from the article. Akron was even back then trying to save its football program because of lack of attendance and poor performance on the field. And,the Acme/Zip games was obviously an 'event'. It wasn't just a football game. But,the football program and University got badly needed exposure. Hard to believe the minds in the AD couldn't come up with something like this now.
  14. He went from an assistant at IUP to an entry level position with the Packers and is moving up. Too bad Zips couldn't get him here as a QB coach earlier. But,he is paying his dues and will be a HC somewhere pretty soon.
  15. Having had two season tix for years, including at the Bowl this all looks like'the more things change, the more they stay the same'. The situation with Infocision and historically support for the football program goes beyond what happens on the field. There never has been a groundswell of consistently good attendance either pre or post Info. I recall that the University seemed to 'assume' that by building a new on campus stadium that attendance would significantly improve. Hasn't happened consistently. The students just haven't been interested in any significant numbers. The fact that until last season the program has been losing for years hasn't helped. But I have spoken with students who have little interest in football who resent the fact that they pay high fees so the University can buy its own tix and pay off the bill on the stadium. Whether those attitudes would change with a consistent winner, who knows? I also think that the AD has done a really poor job of marketing. Frankly, they need to stop trying to cater to 18-21 year olds,it hasn't worked. Maybe try to get the attention of us older folks who might have money to attend games on a consistent basis and,who have a legit interest in football. But,I noticed that the AD is already trying to up the ante on season ticket holders for next year. Something as seemingly minor as not offering those $5.00 concession vouchers to some season ticket holders who got them in previous years is not the way to garner support after 1 winning season. Hopefully,Bowden can put another winner on the field in 2016. As far as attendance is concerned,I think the jury is still out.
  16. One of the best decisions Bowden made this season was to stop the 'QB du jour' and name Woodson the starter, sink or swim. It not only gave Woodson confidence to go out and play AND learn from his mistakes, but it gave the entire team confidence in not only Woodson but the coaching staff. We have to think Woodson will get better with more experience. Just give him a decent running game and another competent receiver, besides Lane. If so,he will be OK.
  17. What can one say!? Its been a decade since there was this much interest in the football program. I wasn't expecting a ZIPS win but it didn't take long for that defense to assert itself on USU. OK they got the benefit of a fortunate call by the officials but that happens in all games In the time I have been watching Akron play football and that goes back into the '60s,I don't remember an Akron defense being as dominant week in and week out(with a couple exceptions) as this one has been pretty much all season. This has to be a really emotional win for Chuck Amato as it was for the entire team. Given what he has been through personally and career wise it might be one of his best coaching jobs. Hope they tack on a couple more years to Bowden's contract since it looks like he has gotten it turned. Hoping this will help recruiting and they can build on it next season. Win the freaking MAC so there is a game closer to home.
  18. Hate to say it but this is a 'duh'. The BJ was a fairly well respected paper in the '50's'60's and '70's. Thats when Knight-Ridder controlled the paper. Since then the actual news reporting has become third rate. Not really concerned about the sports reporting, that has not been worth the price of the paper for more than 20 years. If people still look to the BJ for ANY kind of news ...oh my!.
  19. Not that I wouldn't love it,BUT not quite ready to make a hotel reservation with the info at hand! Nothing personal. In 2005 it was put out pretty quickly after the Zips won that they would be playing Memphis in the MCB. I know there was more of a tie in,but at this point the powers that be know where they want to send everyone. Quicklane w/NCSate and Akron would seem like a natural. Two teams that are off the radar. The former NCState coach,The Chest is the Akron DC. Go for it!
  20. How do we know that?
  21. Detroit?!!!! Imagine that! Umm,IF its Detroit wanna know how many of you all were actually booking to the Bitchamas? I know we will see at least 20,000 of you in the motor city, right?
  22. How about a Luke Getsy bobblehead doll? Understand he is or was working for the Packers? Maybe a Brett Biggs bobblehead. If we are going back to relive the past, lets relive the best season possibly in Akron football history since 1976. I did hear Steve French make an interesting post game comment on Friday. The topic of the last coaches with winning records at Akron came up. Lee Owens was mentioned since he got fired after going 7-5? French said there was a lot going on backstage on that firing. He also mentioned that maybe they could go into it a little further on down the road. That said buy those season tix for 2016. Time to win the division.
  23. I think somebody on this site said TB's contract runs through 2017? For a 7-5 season that needs to be extended one season. And, in the future all + 500 seasons and/ or the division championship get another year. A MAC championship gets a 2 year bump. Expectations will be high in 2016.
  24. Somebody brought up the issue of attendance and how that might adversely affect an Akron bowl placement.Any thoughts? Doubt many of us poor folk are going to be able to go to the Bahamas on XMAS Eve. Maybe the best thing that could happen is that Akron gets sent to Detroit. Probably more accessible all around than any of the other possibilities.
