(Those unsportsmanlike penalties don't 'hurt' until they hurt. No need to personalize this trivial stuff. Just say 'I don't agree' and move on.) Woodson was very accurate on Saturday. He hit receivers out in front while they were on the move. He wasn't pressured much but he appears to be getting the ball out on time more often. Davis made a couple of NICE grabs. Lane's TD was beautiful. The offense just appeared more cohesive. Hope they can run more 'inside' screens and not just the bubbles. And hopefully,TB will get a healthy tight end who can take some heat off Davis and Lane. As I said above,it was nice to see the D playing 2-deep for pretty much the entire game. The secondary only had one glaring hiccup. Looked like a missed assignment. Other than that the front was pretty much able to control the game especially after Akron got ahead. Would imagine Can't will try to pound Durham up front and hope to pull the LB's and safeties closer to the line. Maybe then hope to hit some big plays over the secondary. Doesn't look like either of their QB's can consistently move their offense through the air. Special teams can not give up any big plays. No blocked punts,no long returns. Can't will be more than happy to play defense all day and wait. The Can't D will be a tougher nut to crack. Woodson will see more pressure. Imagine they will stop the run first with more guys in the box and blitzes.TB and Milwee have to keep him in situations where he won't have to force throws. Another hundred yard rusher and a healthy tight end will help. Another turnover free game will help. One to go.

Hopefully the season is not over. It will take a win on Friday to get a bowl. Gonna be some big conference teams getting bumped down now. They will go before the MAC 6-6 teams. If these guys can't beat Can't now, that would be pathetic.

Several things, Stayed for the entire game. If the coaches don't get in to Davis' ass and tell him to act like he he has been there before and he has, the refs will be 'looking' for him and nail him again and again. The last one was was BS,but MAC officials are idiots. Can't lose him in any more games. That said Davis made some important grabs today. Woodson played his best game at QB. He still made some bonehead decisions BUT,he did not turn the ball over. The O line finally blocked for the run. When your back up RB get over 100,thats the O line. The D played a lot of 2 deep, finally. Amato let his front 7 control the line of scrimmage. Woodson seems to be getting better at least in the passing department. As was necessary, Akron got in front early, and DID NOT TURN THE BALL OVER. The Defense could play its game and not the game UB wanted to play. First hurdle overcome. Can't is a much better D. They will pressure Woodson and keep the game low scoring. Their offense is terrible but that means nothing on Friday. It takes a win against Can't to get to a bowl.

Rain coming. Checking stats, looks like UB gives up some points in the FIRST half. Licata is over 60% completion. They have 2 RB's who have 600-700 yards each. Their defense might be vulnerable to the run which may be a break since Akron struggles with the pass. Please don't put Woodson in the position of having to throw the ball. The O-line doesn't protect that well and he will throw up anyway. Looks like they have a decent punter. They beat OU and played BG and NIU fairly tough. Akron needs to establish the run early and stay with it. Stating the obvious getting ahead by a couple of scores early is critical for Akron.Make Licata throw the ball to catch up. He will throw a few picks if the Akron defense, particularly the secondary stays disciplined. Not sure that 20 points or less will do it aganst UB. Probably a bowl elimination game for both teams.

Having an 'after wedding' dinner at Nuevo. Reserved the lower level. Gets an A. Been there a couple of times. It ain't your uncle's Tex-Mex. Nice regional dishes.

And all of those teams except MAYBE for FIU or San Jose are far more attractive than a 6-6 Akron.
-
U would call it likely. The 6-6, 2004 team was more bowl attractive than this bunch. At least they had Charley. Ya your response is that there are even more meaningless bowls in 2015. But,don't assume that some of the teams in the 'better' conferences won't become eligible in the next 4 weeks. Win out,U go!
-
Boy U guys are soooo smart!

So if Akron doesn't beat Can't even if it means going 7-5 and a bowl,it will be because nobody showed up. Tell that to the kids who beat Can't in 2005 to go to the MAC champeenship. Sounds like an excuse for some people who post here who don't want to be at the Can't game IF Akron beats UB.

The numbers: Miami:Run: 68 yards net on 31 attempts. Pass: 20-42-2 pix but 316 yds, 3 TD's among 3 QB's. Their guy Williams had 7 grabs for 181. I am sure UB is looking closely. Akron:Run: 193(net) on 45 attempts; Pass:13-28 for 221,2 pix(humm);9 penalties for 80 yds(Bowden has never been able to correct that), 2-12 on third down. These numbers were against a bad Miami team. Miami I believe gave Akron 4 TO's? Better keep the ball close to the ground. The Zips better play far better on Saturday or that Can't game may become rather meaningless.
-
Well if they lose both there is no bowl game anyway. If they don't win both it is a stretch to get a bowl.
-
U better not overlook UB. They can score. Worry about Can't on Monday.
-
4-2 in the MAC West ain't bad.

We didn't!

THIS Buffalo game is probably the most important game this program has played since the last game at the Bowl in 2008. That was a multiple OT game that Akron lost which likely knocked them out of any realistic opportunity to win the MAC East. This one is for a REALISTIC chance at a Bowl. UB will not give them the game like Miami did today. Licata is a much better QB. He will throw some INT's but if the Akron secondary gets stupid he can heat up and put up some points. Hopefully Hundley can go. He is starting to remind me of the Brett Biggs of the '04//05 teams. He consistently busts his butt, gains yards and tries to put them in a position to win. Beat UB and Can't is a big emotional win. Lose to UB,not likely get a bowl at 6-6.

Even if you get waxed?

Please explain why Navy would be a "great" matchup for Akron!
-
Please explain.

The squawk about what this team 'should' do gets mundane. They need to take advantage of a mostly season great performance by the defense as well as a relatively soft MAC schedule. Ya play the cards you are dealt. 'Should' they win today? Its easy to say they 'should'. If the coaches don't try to make these guys do more than they have been doing well they 'should' handle Miami. Worry about UB,a tougher game, next week.
-
As it turned out Matt Johnson didn't have to throw the ball all over the yard. BG was able to win and control the game on the ground. Johnson was effective. Licata was bad early but he warmed up later on and got UB back within striking distance. UB has a hard time running it appears. But, beware UB on 11-21. Not likely Akron will score a lot of points. So, the secondary can't become vulnerable as it has a tendency to do. If the front can keep Licata moving and not let him establish the pass AND the Akron offense doesn't turn oover the ball..... I remember 2008 at the Bowl. Last game there How many OT's? Buffalo won and pretty much killed the rest of the season for the Zips. One at a time!
-
How is CMU 'mediocre'? They beat Akron on the road(how bad are the Zips then?) Other than OK and Pitt and BGSU(they blew out the Zips) CMU may be the best team Akron plays all season. Thank the schedule makers in the MAC for that) And, CMU loses to the team in the West, the overwhelmingly better division from top to bottom, in the MAC that was ranked in the top 25 because of its wins earlier this season. Yep, NIU beat Toledo. NIU certainly isn't 'mediocre'. Depending on what happens tonight and the next 3 weeks,CMU has a 'chance' to win the MAC west don't they? Akron right now is 'mediocre' at best. If they win out come up with another definition.
-
Thankfully Chuck's defense has progressed faster than the other guy's offense. The last two weeks have been impressive for the D. Even in the loss to CMU they held a good QB in check. Jatavis Brown has been a force. Hope he gets a look in the pros. Problem is he is kind of a 'tweener. Hopefully he can transition to safety. At least in the second half they got the ball to Hundley enough to take some pressure off Woodson. Hundley is really a trooper. He is there no matter what. Its been obvious for weeks that the Defense would have to 'win' games. Thats not going to change now. Stay with Woodson. Don't make him do more than he can do Somebody above used the word 'cupcakes'. Akron doesn't play any cupcakes in the MAC. They are not that good. Stay awake and get by Miami. Then you have a much better team in Buffalo. Another really solid QB(Licata) with an offense that can run better than UMass. Right now they are probably last in line for bowl games in the MAC. Too many better teams in the west. Plus Buffalo has a shot. Hope OU keeps losing and the Zips beat Can't at the end. 7-5 not 6-6 gets a bowl.

Nobody here has to 'try' to get a coach fired. If anyone thinks that what is written here will get a football coach fired, please get back on your meds. The numbers at the end of this season will determine if Bowden stays or heads back home.
