  1. Better find some good weather first...Phoenix is nice in April.
  2. Not for this year but next. Careful with this one. This is a pretty good FB program. Don't need anymore losses to 1-AA scholls in fball.
  3. Chisolm at least was making medicore talent look bad. Thats what good players are supposed to do. There may be hope there. The receivers are all midgets but may be at least faster. Can't tell anything about Nicely except that he appeared to be farther along than the other two. That figures. The secondary still looked lost. The D-line wasn't making too many stops at the line thats is very troubling. When the 3-4th game of the regular season rolls around we will know more.
  4. I hope that it is not news to anyone that Akron has a 'weak' fan base. That information is like ancient history. That was why it was so curious when the powers that be decided to spring for such an elaborate facility and apparently assume just because it was new it would draw big crowds.
  5. Especially since FIU is going to be pretty good(relatively)this year.
  6. +1. +1. Hell do we have a number high enough?
  7. Coming this weekend a story about our favorite 'masked man'.
  8. Of course there are guys returning wh played last year.
  9. I e-mailed Gaffney. He says the next story will include some information on the running back situation. Such as it is.
  10. This one will stick in my mind, however it turns out, I will remember this quote: ''I think Akron is a sleeping giant. You have got to give them two or three more years. The way they can coach and recruit, this is going to be a juggernaut.'' I'm having a hard time believing anything from a guy named Lemming. Lemming is a huge Notre Dame homer. He's a moron if you have followed recruiting long enough to notice it. His credentials really speaks to why he is a moron Im not a huge fan of his, but anytime somebody says opposite of anything this board feels about the coach, he is automatically discounted. Ive been watching the Zips for the last 5-10 years, much more observant as I get a little older, and anybody that expected the talent on this team to compete is a damn fool. This team was stocked full of zero talent. There was a handful of players left on the roster that Coach I had to work with, but outside of that....what do you people expect? It's going to take time...Im not sold on him, but Im not foolish to expect more than what is happening. The talent just isnt there. He isn't going anywhere, get used to it. All this bellyaching is just going to make life miserable for you. He will be here for atleast four-five years. Rightfully so.
  11. We need to see if a year in Ianello's system improves Nicely's decision making. Compared to his first year under JD, last year Nicely WAS terribly indecisive and inaccurate that was obvious. Does the experience make a difference? The other side of that is,Moore is coming into the system new this year. What will his learning curve be? Physically,Moore doesn't stand out. He isn't tall, doesn't appear to have a huge arm. He may be more mobile. That might cut down on the sacks a little. Accuracy and decision making, hard to tell until you get into some REAL live fire situations against some legitimate competition. Could be Nicely goes into the season as the starter if Moore isn't overwhelming in pre-season. Nicely either improves or plays his way out as the starter. Neither of these guys is gonna get much help though.
  12. I don't think I want to watch players play who have such little talent the value is measured in zero. People watch minor league baseball,go watch the future pros in the minors. Minor league baseball players get paid to play. Some rather well. Thats the idea. The minor league of football is run by the NFL not the NCAA. Just like MLB basically runs the minors.
  13. With this program go back to school you can probably walk on and make the team.
  14. A net-and-cable backstop costs $45,000?!?! And "100-150 chair-back seats behind the new backstop." My, my. Aren't we aiming for the stars? How come they couldn't work out something with the Aeros to play more games at Canal Park?
  15. I don't think I want to watch players play who have such little talent the value is measured in zero. People watch minor league baseball,go watch the future pros in the minors.
  16. Went to the practice. Who are the running backs(not FB) gonna be? Broderick Alexander is the only returning RB with any carries? A couple of frosh on there. Thats not good. The Lone Ranger doesn't look 6'1' either.
  17. So, let me get this straight= you talked to a guy...who talked to JD...and then JD has heard from other guys that guys don't like Ianallo. That's a lot of guys!Just messing a bit, but c'mon. That's a lot of he said, he said, he said stuff. In reference to other posters comments: yeah, maybe he was ticked off when, in the middle of everyone trying to celebrate a great basketball championship, someone is shouting at him. Perhaps he thought everyone should just be enjoying the moment. Look, we have seen the results so far on the field..and they are ugly. And yeah, if JD is talking to some current players that he recruited and who still liked JD a lot..maybe they don't like Ianallo's style. Maybe JD was too relaxed, and Ianallo is too uptight. Who knows? Maybe Ianallo will bring it down a notch. This was the guy's first year on the job...and this is what you get when you get a guy that has never been in this position before. I have liked what I have seen of TomW being out there with the soccer team, being on the floor with the basketball team, and, seeming quite personable when I met him and when I have seen him around. Plus, I like what he has done with YouTube (in the past) and "Ask the AD". I'm trusting that this guy knows what he is doing...but, like most here, I am greatly concerned. I am just not giving up on Ianallo...yet. Zips need a runningback, maybe Wistrcill can suit up.
  18. It shouldn't be up to the ncaa to say whether or not a guy can juggle all of the above. If they want to work, they should be free to do so. I am not defending the NCAA. As I stated, until you remove the large amounts of money from college sports it doesn't matter. These guys are going to get money. Here is a novel idea,no scholarships. You get into school if you qualify to actually be a student like most of us had to.. If the school wants to admit a marginal student so be it. If you want to play sprots and if the University wants to support sports teams they do that at whatever level they can afford. Otherwise the NFL needs to start a minor league, like baseball. You get out of high school, you want to play, you go to the minors and develop.
  19. All the nibbling around the edges is meaningless. As long as $$$$ and not education is the driving force behind college athletics it is useless to debate whether Cam Newton or Von Miller or Patrick Nicely is allowed to have a job. Do ya think Newton,Miller or any 'students' of that ilg have time to hold down a legitimate job? When do they go to class? When to they practice? When do they work out? When do they write papers? Why would some of those guys want to work? They will still get more money from other sources. Take out the financial incentives for the big schools, the problem will tend to go away. Ya,like thats gonna happen.
  20. ND is a tougher team than gonzaga was. They wear teams down with that funky offense they run. And,they have done that against teams in the Big East that are athletically far superior to Akron. This may be one of those games where the score does not reflect the domination of the winning team. Mike Brey does not appaer to be one of those coaches who needs to have his teams run it up.
  21. Players weren't as 'mobile' then. recruiting was not as 'spohisticated.. Could they leave school after their frosh year then?
  22. This isn't far enough to the end of the year, Can't should be the last game of the season. Rivalry games should always be that last game...ALWAYS. This isn't Ohio State vs. Michigan. In case you haven't noticed, we're struggling to draw fans for ANY game. The further you push this game towards the end of the season, the more likely you are to have a poor crowd for a matchup that would otherwise provide our only chance for a significant draw for as long as we remain a non-contending team. So what better than put our rival as the last home game?...that should draw more than usual to a game that no one would have went to. Also, attendance could be solved by removing the idiots in charge over at Athletics and actually winning a few games here and there. Don't know about ,idiots' in the AD but we all saw how fast the 'new stadium' effect wore off. Its funny how all the people here who thought the new place would bring in tons of people don't talk about that anymore. When the team ain't winning people i.e. students won't walk across the street to watch a game. As has been pointed out before even the consistently good teams in the MAC don't consistently draw large crowds. Hell, down at OU the kids can fall out of bed and be on the 40 yard line. Here if you win you will get more fans in the seats than at the Bowl. But, don't look for much improvement until they put a winner on the field. When?
  23. It used to be that in our society, when a person was caught doing something wrong and it impacted those within his organization, the person did the dignified thing and resigned from their position. Today, you hire a lawyer and play the public relations game even when you are wrong. The truth is, Reno probably couldn't buy much with his check or could go out and get a job a Home Depot making about the same amount of money. There is a bid difference between that and the millions Tressel is making. Reno did the dignified thing. Tressel is playing the same scumbag game he has been playing for ten+ years now. There is a huge difference between what Reno did and what Tressel did. Reno didn't carry on a lie to save a football season or worse yet, his own ass like Tressel did. Reno also didn't have a potential National Championship season on the line...it's a bit easier to walk away from Akron's situation. Reno also never owned up to his wrongdoing, resigning instead. I guess it depends on perception...and on a forum full of anti-OSU sentiment, I know I'm not winning there lol. Let me get this straight. You are saying it is OK to lie to the president of tOSU, your direct supervisor (the AD) AND the NCAA if you have a potential national championship season ahead of you? On what planet is this OK? It has nothing to do with tOSU. At any other school, in any other job, these actions would get an employee fired. Only at tOSU could this go on. The SEC has nothing on tOSU. Reno took more risk. He gave up a low paying job for no money. What would Tressel give up?....He already has millions. Resigning from tOSU wouldn't hurt Tressel. To quote or paraphrase: 'If you ain't lyin' you ain't tryin'... I think it's, "IF you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'" Tressel was cheating to win. However, when caught, he should have just admitted he cheated in lieu of telling a fib. In this case it was lyin' And it rhymes better.
