Whether or not this guy is any good remains to be seen(benefit of the doubt). It is becoming clearer that Ianello is not attracting high quality assistants and that it appears they really do not want to work for him. Not only do the changes show up on the field,they kill recruiting. Kids want to know who their coaches are going to be and whether they are any good. Just makes the rebuilding that much harder.

Last year wasn't a "write off", it was almost a complete disaster of epic proportions if they don't beat Buffalo the last game. The Zips had something like 16 or 17 returning starters. There was no starting from scratch. They should have done better. Agree. But, unfortunately it doesn't matter.

I think, if he can keep his head on straight, he is the starting QB on day 1. After all, what is the alternative? NOW, if this guy succeeds, just think, maybe we beat Ohio State and he throws 6 TD passes, the media will have an absolute field day, as in: LONE RANGER SLAYS OSU WITH SIX SILVER BULLETS And it puts us on the map. BCS schools dont have to take chances on risky kids. Mac schools do. So he could be David Harvey or?

Since it is doubtful that anybody here knows much about recruiting and has likely seen very few if any of these guys play on a regular basis nobody will know for at least 2 years whether these guys are any good. Of course by that time we will know if Ianello can coach. Relax.

Lotsa people today think they know more than they actually do. I suppose if everyone was as smart at this as they think they are they wouldn't be doing what they are doing. Lets see how they PLAY.

They better figure out a way to keep the real paying customers...the season ticket holders. At this level they will always have to do gimmicks to get a decent number of butts in the seats over an EXTENDED period of time. The big money comes from 'sacrifice' games and student fees.

If this guy is that good,seems a little strange that these BCS schools would have backed off completely. Wasn't like he was selling his rings or jackets or whatever...

It will never happen but if the OSU's,Alabamas etc get 'penalized' for scheduling cupcakes. They would stop. If the 'wins' against the Akrons,Can't State's etc did not 'count' as far as the BS er BCS is concerned the big boys would have to stop playing them. If you are in a BCS conference lets say you get to play 1 game a year with a non-BCS team. Everything else has to be with BCS schools. More than 1 and you get eliminated from possible BCS bowl appearance. It raises the level of competition among BCS schools. You could play a tougher schedule,maybe lose a game or 2 and still get into the BCS bowl picture. Or assign conferences to play each other on a rotating basis. The Big 10 and Big 12 have to play each other this year,the Big Ten and PAC 12 have to play each other another year.. How do you decide what teams from each conference play each other? They can figure it out. The current system is so screwed up until there is a playoff who knows?

Actually according to legend Dickerson was going to A+M initially. Changed his mind after they bought him the car. A+M recruiter pissed him off apparently. Guess A+M couldn't really ask for the car back could they. SMU (SOUTHERN MILLIONAIRES UNIVERSITY) just gave him more money than A+M. Even th governor of Texas was involved in that mess.

Ya,everyone would like Navy/Army on the football side. Why would they come to a crap coference like the MAC for that? They can go to better bowl games on their own.

Umass is not going to 'step down' in basketball to come to the MAC. In 5 years they might be in the MAC championship game in fball.

Anything? I would have to think App State might trade a win over a pathetic Mich team for a I-AA championship?! Thing is App State is usually good enough to compete for the championship. You saw what good it did for Akron to beat NC State in 06. If you are beating Can't consistently from here on out it might mean you are making some progress in being competetive in the MAC. Tell me if you would rather beat OSU once or compete in the MAC year in and year out.

I would like to know how posters on this site 'know' or think they know the quality of a recruiting class at Akron. If one dismisses the ratings services as some here do, unless you have seen all of these recruits perform over time what is the basis for judgement? There have been several classes of recruits over the past 6 years that people thought were good for this level of play. A few of the players have performed well. But that certainly hasn't translated into positive results for the team on the field.

Appears Tressel has done a novel tradeoff. The suspended players get to play in the bowl game for a promise of returning for their senior seasons. Wonder if they will actually show up next year?

What if he has no access to any money? Have you ever not had a dime to your name and no chance to go out and make any? I'm not saying that is the case with him, but there are guys playing college football around the country who grew up in shacks and have zero money. Universities are making millions off of these players and they don't have enough money to take a girl out on a date. There is something wrong with that in my mind. Yep you are right. There is something wrong. Until the NFL starts a farm system like baseball it will continue to use universities for that purpose. So you will continue to get kids of the type you describe going to school to devlope themselves for the NFL and not to obtain a degree. The NFL saves millions and the NCAA and universities make millions.

I don't think you can say Miami is trending down after they went from 1-11 to the MAC champoinship. WMU probably underachieved this year not sure if they are going the wrong directionthough. If they have another one next year that might be a trend. Temple has had solid seasons recently. It depends on how they react to the new coach. UB and BGSU? UB will probably struggle a little while. BG was young. Now if you want a trend,the Zips since 2006.

Correct. Whenever anyone starts a response with 'I don't recall' it doesn't mean that person didn't say what is in question. It means maybe they didn't say it or they did say it and don't remember they said it or they did say it and aren't going to 'fib' by saying they didn't. But,people will believe what they choose to believe and sometimes try to pass that off as fact. I doubt that anybody here actually knows what was or wasn't said.

Phil Steele had Alex Allen on his 'All MAC' second team. At least he got some well deserved recognition from somebody.
