i think he only gets fired if the AD really thinks he has a coach proven at at the I-AA or D-II level who is willing to come in here...otherwise no reason again to get some schmuck who has never been a head coach...

 the offense is not young...they have one more year with that solid O-line then it goes away...kennedy is gone...johnson is gone...who knows if Alex Allen will be OK...williams is gone....grant is gone...bain? who knows?...AND jacquemain has one year left...this team will not be better 'on paper' next year...

boy you can tell we are AKRON fans...

the next football excitement is when the season ticket holders for the Info get to go in and pick there seats...thats according to the ticket orifice...

No question that was an issue in his 2nd and 3rd year of recruiting. I give him credit for owning up and saying that he had the wrong philosophy. That has been fixed. The last 2 classes have had excellent retention, Andre Jones got his last year back. I can't fault what is going on in the classroom now. He runs a clean program, no issues with the law. I find fault in how many games we are winning. lets also not forget the negative effects this is already having on recruiting...bad record three years running...coach who could be gone this year or next and who has little time left on his contract anyway...does a kid commit with the possibility a new coach could come in and not want him?...the entire program is affected for years to come..as odd as it may sound, if the AD keeps brookhart he may have to add a year to his contract for the sake of the long term..?

JD Critiques, the 3-3-5, Recruiting etc.

there are some other issues that arise,(besides the losing records of the last three years), assuming brookhart gets'one more last chance'(sounds like a country/western song)...someone on this board said brookhart has two years left on his contract...assuming that is correct, recruiting got a lot tougher than it already was starting yesterday(he was meeting a recruit last night)...if a prospect knows the coach has two years left and the program has been losing, will he sign knowing that in two years(assuming redshirt)when he is ready to play the coach who recruited him could be gone and the new coach may not want him...thats why coaches want that 3-4 year cushion...aside from what happens to the coaching staff...starting NOW this situation has consequences for the program for years to come...by the way, wonder if that kid is going to sign? -
Lee, let's look at bowl games. WMU has one, they lost, they will likely get another one this year, that they will lose. They have not won a MAC championship since Cubit took over. He benefitted from being in a conference with a down NIU and a weak Ball State. Then he get's to play EMU, Toledo, and a FCS team. My point is you say we settle for mediocrity and then compare us to a mediocre team in the west. We played them head to head last year and beat them, during a horrible year, at Waldo. Yet you want to compare us to them. Do I wish that we had the number of championships they have? Yes. Do I want us to be like them? No. They are mediocre and will likely stay middle of the pack until Hoke and CMU's coach move on. They will always be a MAC school and I think everyone on this board feels our school is trying to grow and shed the MAC. yes i know 29-19 since 2005 is 'only mediocre' unfortunately if CUBIT has been mediocre brokenheart has been......? add the APPROPRIATE adjective...

i am sure you are basing your assessment of next year's potential on the performance over the last 3 years...right?

so you might be surprised...so what? -
can't did some things the Zips failed to do...beat fuffalo, beat a team with a winning record and win ONE GD game when it counted...i HOPE the AD looks at this for what it says about our program...
-
sorry guys...reality is hell...compare yourself to the best not the worst or you will always be what U are...mediocre...look at the record against the MAC....look at bowl games...look at the overall record...i know some of you guys are experts and are waiting for coaching jobs to come your way but some of us poor shmucks...just want to see one more win than loss a few seasons in a row...by the way stop the personal lecture...i don't know you...you don't know me ...thanks

IF Brookhart stays..the defensive coaches have to go...the offense puts up enough points just about every game to be competetive...the defense for the last 2-3 years has forced the offense to score a ridiculous number of points to just stay in games...by now returning players and recruits look at the D and those coaches and see a black hole...what happened to Bryan Williams for instance...not only does it lose games, the defense has no credibility...for Brookhart to come back and thats a HUGE IF...he has to agree to overhaul the defensive side of the ball....
-
Bill Cubit...4 years at WMU 29-18...'nuf said
-
the fans will show up just for the new digs...the games won't matter much in regard to attendance...this is the best time to recruit new blood...
-
i'm getting all warm and fuzzy...
-
its been painfully obvious the last few years that if this team had a defense that was even in the middle of the MAC pack it would have won(probably this year) at least one more division title...if i am the AD i tell brookhart, you get a locker at the INFO....ONLY IF you replace the defense coaches...if not.......
-
how do the Zips spell defense?..they can't...what a damn shame!
-
 wanna see 2 QB's who can take charge and make everyone else better? ...watch THIS game...

Brian Kelly Top Choice for Tennessee?
Lee Adams replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
good observation... i think brookhart may be concerned that if the Zips mail in the last two games the AD may look hard...somebody on RASOR'S site observed the rather 'subdued' tone of the postgame press conference...shoot if brookhart gets these guys to 7-5 now he at least deserves to open the Info...but 5-7???? -
if i was a WINKING LIZARD big shot i'd be buying some space along Exchange...BW3 is crazy if they don't expand...that location is a gold mine on game days...

thanks RACER...nobody wants to face reality...

You do realize that over the two buy weeks they experimented with the four DL set and used it against Toledo right?I suppose my point dealt more with the fact that some fans on this board believe that sitting around and complaining will acomplish something. It won't. Brookhart will eventually make the needed changes when he see the need to. You have to remember, most of you aren't there at practice seeing things that Brookhart sees. And obviously he has tried, assuming your post is true. Akron has come a long way since....Gerry Faust went 1-10 in his final year of coaching. Most definitely a long way since that. Lee Owens compiled just 12 wins in his first four seasons as head coach. Definitely a long way since then.Lee Owens compiled a 49% winning record his last 5 years as coach. I would say its come at least a little way since then.We did win a MAC Championship. Since then, we've had two loosing seasons. I generally feel that these Zips teams are generally better than years past, but the overall W-L record doesn't show us to be a MAC powerhouse. Hence, my statement that we have come at least a little way the past few years, but not necessarily a long way.If the program has come a long way, then next year the team should be expected to win those big games as you've said. If we are just a few mistakes or a couple of dropped balls away from a MAC championship game, then that should be remedied by next season. At the same time, if we have come a long way we will easily beat our last two opponents this year who both have losing records. If not, I would say that Akron football has not come a long way recently. Wait 'till next year is something Akron fans have had to say for a long time. If that is what we end up saying this year, how can we say Akron has come a long way?Bottom line: Akron has the talent, and the coaching, now we just need to go out there and put some W's on the board. That's all it comes down to. This season was as close as it gets. There's really only two games this year that we flat out LOST. We won close games we should of won, and lost some close games that the media said we would lose. We need to start winning those to take the next step in the right direction. haven't beaten a team with a winning record..1 win at home...what am i missing?..that said if brookhart goes 6-6 he gets another year and a locker at the INFO...if not 3 losing seasons in a row after 2 + one win seasons..!Thats idiotic. Your basing the job security of our coach on ONE game? Please. guess ya gotta read everything...ITS NOT JUST ONE WIN AT HOME ITS ALL THE OTHER STUFF TOO...like i said if he gets this bunch to 6-6 EVEN THOUGH THEY WILL NOT HAVE BEATEN A TEAM WITH A WINNG RECORD i think jd gets one more year..
