But, but, but, but, Bowling Green!!

Boogie's one-handed off the helmet frab was #1 on Sportsce ter last night:
-
Knight & Alce didn't have big numbers but both made big plays. Boogie snagged a handed catch at a pivotal moment and Alce punished the D when he punched into the end zone for his first career touchdown. Remember what it was like to pull off an upset?

What are you looking for in a Head coach?

Didn't Stroud have to take a medical leave this year? He would be a good football guy, not sure on the fundraising or PR side. -
This might be Arth's biggest failure, yet. Has he ever addressed this? Akron may be the only place where a coach won't get fired with three straight years of losing, badly.

How many years should we wait? This guy cannot win. -

Bowden has over 50 new kids on the team at ULM this year. -

I don't think it's it is as simple as making the right coaching hire. Akron has to change. I am not sure that the U has the will or means to do that. In addition to proper X"s and O's skills, 1. He has to understand that the job involves the public and the need to raise money. Tom Arth didn't seem to u derstand this part of his job. 2. The right connections to get quality assistants and recruits referred to them. Tom Arth did not have those. 3. He has to be a motivator. -
Agree - with Bowden, you always felt there was a chance, because the Zips won games they had no business winning. Bowden had the team moving int he right direction until the admin changed. The difference, you have an amateur that can't cover for poor administration at the helm, now.

At the end of the day, Arth cannot win games he should win, let alone pull off an upset. At this level, it doesn't matter what you know, it's what you do. This isn't just about whether to fire Arth or not (which they should do, immediately.) This is a gut check for Akron: do they have the will and the means to support a D1 program at the level required to win. Arth is barely visible to the community and seems to have neither the skill nor the desire to raise money. That is not a winning combination at this level of FBS play. He might have reached the top of his talent at the D3 level. Lastly, I have seen nothing from him that shows me he really has the team's buy-in. I watch his behavior on the sidelines and I just don't see a motivator. I keep hearing a bunch of BS about the culture under Bowden and how much it is better under Arth, but I call BS. I have yet to hear it come from a player. It sounds like it comes from a player's parent who saw their kid on the sidelines under Bowden and got some PT under Arth.

I feel bad for the players. This has become humiliating. The shocking part is that there are still people who think we will somehow have the crystal ball that lands us the next Matt Campbell. We won't until the administration changes. Akron currently does not have the passion to be competitive at the D1 level. People on this board have mocked Jaclson State, but I don't think the Zips could beat them right now.
-
And they have moved up around 25 spots from the bottom 5 of D1.

Playing P5 schools is good for the players and a good recruiting tool. It gives the players a chance to play in some of the best venues, to get game film against better talent and looks from pro scouts, and is a reminder that they play D1 football, when most of their conference games feel more like high school. And yes, we need the money. The down side is that you often lose kids to injuries in those games that end up impacting the rest of the season. How many seasons did Greg Ball not make it to a conference game because of the OOC injuries? And yes , the season went downhill after Northwestern, but how many injuries did we suffer through in OOC play? It's tough enough to get great talent for your 1's and 2's at the G5 level, nearly impossible when you to the 3's and deeper level. Balance is the key.. When teams load up on P5 games, it shows they have been unsuccessful at other fundraising activities. App State plays one P5 schools, #22 Miami in 2021. They lost by three points. I think where App State is where most G5 coaches would like their programs to mature to.

Then don't throw it out as an excuse for why Arth can't do his job
-
Seriously. Every coach has had the same challenges. It was his choice to cut lose the Bowden recruits.

I love to see Fleck lose to MAC team

The bigotry runs deep enough that you have to hijack the thread to insult 0layera and coaches who were once part of the program. Does that somehow make you a Zips super fan? Nope It's funny to hear any of us disparage another Roger when Akron is in shambles right now.
-
What's another way to say you haven't watched them play?
-
Maybe you should watch Coach Prime's team. These are talented players.

Success = as few injuries as possible. Any update on Kato's status?

Their newcomers are playing better ball. Feel free to scroll along if you aren't interested. Boogie shares his story at the 4:00 mark.

Knoxville is an awesome game day experience. This one is worth the drive.
-
Get over it. He's a former Zip and we usually talk about former Zips. No one's making you read the thread.

Jackson State has more four star athletes than either ULM or Akron. If you take solace in Akron being slightly better (although unproven) three years into a rebuild than a team that had not won a game since November of 2019 in year one of a rebuild, than your bar is far too low.
