  1. I was really irritated about the headline and the way this was framed. He clearly said he was joking. It was dumb joke, but he is an 87 year old man. I have read other responses that indicated he was slighting the mothers, but if you listened to the entire interview, there was no slight, at all. Find me a single mother with an absentee dad who doesn't wish there was a quality dad around for her children. That doesn't take anything away from the mother, at all. Raising kids is tough and doing it alone is a monumental task. I think the whole thing was clumsy, but the outrage is ridiculous.
  2. I made the last PSU trip and it was an awesome experience. The fans couldn't have been nicer and it was awesome hearing the stadium dead quiet with a close score, going into halftime. Our D played a great game that day. I also attended the Iowa-PSU Whiteout game. That ranked just below the Tennesee - Alabama game experience, for me.
  3. It's painful to watch a shellacking like Wisconsin but in addition to the paycheck, the kids love playing at the these venues. It's a nice recruiting tool.
  4. James Franklin is already thinking about us.
  5. I can't say I disagree.
  6. I didn't see this kid on the commitment list.
  7. I had the same question about his rushing attempts and also decided it was because he became a more experienced passer. I also think our 2016 line provided better protection. I did wonder if he were to have rushed it a few more times if it would have opened up the pass a little more. I think it would have been a little foolish for him to rush against Wisconsin and there simply wasn't a need against App State or Marshall as they did not come close to shutting down our pass game. Like you said, after App State, he was nursing the injury and it would not seem wise to unnecessarily expose him to further injury to that shoulder.
  8. Have heard his name all season and thought the same thing. Imagine having he, JoJo, and Jerome as targets.
  9. With our recent additions and Tommy's nagging injury, it appears as though we might be heading for a QB competition. Here are the contenders: Tommy Woodson (Sr) (6'1") led Zips to first bowl win, played very well until injury vs App State. Kato Nelson (R-Fr) (6' 1") 3 star recruit, highly sought after by G5 schools Clayton Uecker ( 2 yrs of eligibility left, sat out 2016) 6' 5",good stats before he transferred Alex Ramart - (Fr) (6' 4") Nick Johns (6' 4" Jr) former 3 star recruit to Virignia, left for JUCO, available for spring football All but Ramart (unless he is able to enroll early), will be available for spring football. If Ramart is unable to enroll early, he won't be part of the 2017 battle, from my perspective. Summer camp is way to too short to properly acclimate a new QB, unless they are extraordinary. I would say that a lot of the battle will be determined by how healthy Tommy is. I think even if he is 100%, the coaches will be interested in competition and getting a solid 3 deep rotation ready. The reports of Nelson from summer camp were very good, so I will be interested to watch him throw at spring ball. I am not sure how realistic Uecker is - I can't compare from film and the level of competition is also pretty tough to compare. I really do hope Tommy returns, strong and healthy and that a competition pushes him harder and prepares a couple of back-ups. We have been very successful with Tommy and he is talented enough to take us to a MAC championship, should the rest of the team develop to that level. I don't see Bowden opting for a longer term pick, like Nelson, if Tommy is healthy. The program needs to win this year. If Tommy isn't better, TB may opt for a more experienced player like Johns or Uecker (if he is any good) and begin working Nelson into game situations. It might the type of situation where we run with 2 QBs for the first part of the season. We open at Penn State and with the way they developed this season, I would not want to see Nelson face them as his first opponent. Notably absent from the list is Tra'von Chapman. I don't see him back under center, unless it is run a wildcat in short yardage or for a trick play. I think it can be fairly argued that he is not able to keep up with the pace of D1 football under center. The wildcard would be 5th year transfer from a P5 school, but that would need to materialize right away as I don't see us playing a transfer who has not been to spring football unless it is a huge catch.
  10. Not as flashy as some of our recruits at this position, but he seems to tackle well, and I no longer take that for granted.
  11. Pughsley was one of six signed by the Ravens to Future/reserve contracts, today. "All of those players were on the practice squad at the end of the season, so the Ravens are simply keeping them under contract so they don’t sign anywhere else." Wow. I am pretty blown away by the Goodman interview. Did anyone see if he played yesterday?
  12. Look, I am not going to defend the committee. I didn't think OSU deserved to be picked, but to call out Rice, exclusively, when the poster had no way of knowing whether she supported the OSU choice or not seems a bit odd, at best and wanted to give poster an opportunity to explain why he specifically called Rice out, as opposed to the other committee members. With 2 losses, PSU is also a questionable choice. Fleck himself came out and basically said that G5 school had to go winless and schedule higher ranked teams in order to be selected, so WMU never stood a chance. I tend to think the pick should have gone to PSU, with the conference title win, but neither PSU or OSU really deserved to be in the playoffs. They picked a 4th to fill the slot, but there was no clear #4 team. The quality of play dropped off considerably after the top 2 this year.
  13. I am not sure why you decided to call her out, specifically. Care to elaborate? She isn't the only one without college football coaching or playing experience on the committee.
  14. Both are possible. Tendinitis is usually a secondary injury, derived from overuse or compensating for an injury, often when trying to "tough it out." You unknowingly modify your motion or compensate for the initial injury, resulting in the second.
  15. I agree about the severity of Woody's injury and have serious concerns about Woody returning to his former self. I think it's fair to say the coaches have, as well, based on recruiting and we will see a QB battle unfold during spring ball and camp. It looked like it might have been a tendonitis type of injury, which can be really tough. You can feel better one day and then be in crippling pain the next, and yes, weather can make it feel significantly worse. Hopefully he is getting the treatment he needs to get better. To me the question marks are: New punter? Gasser was OK but lacked distance and hang time New Kicker? O'Leary did alright with FGs after his nerves settled, but lacked leg on KO's. OL run blocking? - I am actually somewhat hopeful on this as they gained a ton of experience and showed some signs of improvement. We stayed fairly healthy at OL and the guys will be another year stronger. Council, Brown, Jordan, and Neely will help us build depth at this position, much needed. We have plenty of speed with or without Ball with Edwards and Morgan. Ball just gives us power, plus speed. DL - no commentary needed. We need help. 1-2 transfers could help stop the bleed if they are the right ones. I hope the returners are seeing tackling drills in their dreams. Let's see if Camara, Jest, or Moore can make big strides in the off-season. Moore has been injury prone. TE/FB role - this position was constantly in question due to injuries this year. MTB did a good job when he was healthy, but he not healthy for a good chunk of the season. Newman Williams has also been injury prone, limiting his ability to make an impact. MTB has one more year left, I believe. He could be a big impact player if healthy all year. MTB might also be able to provide some leadership if we are looking at a new QB next season. Where we will building on existing strength: Defensive Secondary - I feel like we are excellent in this area Gilbert at LB WRs RBs I am also expecting Alvin Davis and Shawn Featherstone to continue building upon on the flashes of greatness we saw emerging in 2016.
  16. Where we normally like to redshirt a true freshman, we aren't in a position to do that if we get a worthy DT. That has to be appealing to a kid to be able to come in and compete for a spot.
  17. I agree. As much as I would like to see a healthy Tommy, I think it's fair to question whether he will ever be able to return to his former consistency and arm strength. I really hope he does but you have to give these other 2 guys a shot.
  18. He suffered an injury his senior year of HS. We took a chance on him and he never panned out, so he transferred.
  19. There is a vast amount of parity in the MAC. I feel as though any team could beat any other team on any given Saturday (or Tue, Wed, Thur, or Fri.) It's really tough to compare apples to oranges, but it does make you feel a little better about the performance we put up with Goodman in as QB.
  20. I wish him nothing but the best, but this seems like a long shot. Do you think the rash of injuries, and even his own scared him a little and he is afraid of missing his opportunity due to his injury or a rough year at QB next year?
  21. Yeah, I don't see how he gets a lot of interest after the season he had. Everyone called him the big threat, but JoJo was the big threat. I would think with a healthy Woody or even Kato, the opportunity for some great stats are there for next year.
  22. Oh, here are the alleged "insider" views that cast aspersion on a player's character. Spare us.
  23. If Natson would have pulled it in, it would have been a phenomenal catch. I wouldn't say he choked. If we want to point at what cost us points, it was the bad snap on the missed FG. I'll duck after I hit enter, but it was a good effort from a third string QB, who has had less than 2 weeks of practice since high school and a defense that has been abysmal showed up to play. Let's put this horrible, injury-riddled season behind us and look to a better year next year. I am not sure in-depth analysis is very applicable when in truth, the season boiled down to too many key players injuries.
  24. The MAC East sucks, this year. That said, we are one JoJo play away from a win.
  25. It looks like the break gave them some extended tackling drill time. The defense is putting up a very good effort.
