  1. A guy who can deliver crushing blows without being so full of himself that you can't stand him. He seems like a genuinely humble kid. Great to see his success.
  2. "...They saw what the school is doing and they both said they want to make sure they can help put their own city on the map..." These are the types of kids you want to get.
  3. It's legit enough for Iowa to ask fans to stop doing it because it is considered a violation: http://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2015/8/12/9137939/recruiting-twitter-compliance-violations And they aren't the only school that has done so. If you want o support the team, buy season tickets (if you already don't, show up to the games, and show up for the Root walk.) As Iowa said, leave recruiting to the coaches!t
  4. And why should a booster (fan) think they have the right to make the call on violating a rule which can potentially jeopardize the program. Actually neither Hustlebelt nor the media would apply as they are not boosters of the program. This has been reported on many times and is a violation. So, again, why would one individual take it upon himself to do jeopardize the program for his own satisfaction? It's nothing more than arrogance and selfishness.
  5. I don't know owns the Twitter handle Zips_Nation, but they obviously believe they are above the guidelines. It's idiots like these that can get a program into trouble. It falls under the broad umbrella of booster communications. There is always one that thinks the rules are for everyone else or who think they should use the behavior of others as their guide.
  6. Sure, go ahead. I don't see an issue with a recruiting violation. SMH.
  7. Last I knew it was an NCAA violation to Tweet to prospects.
  8. Always thankful when a kid refers to UA as the University if Akron and not Akron U.
  9. TB has stated over and over that he consider W PA part of the local recruiting area. Monroeville (Woodson) is probably an hour or more east of where Boxen is from, which is very close to the OH border. Guiser is further east than Woodson. I picked what I considered to be a reason able distance. I am not really sure what you are looking for. If Newman Williams us a walk-on, give me 10 more of his talent level and I wild be happy. I could care less if a kid is in scholarship or a walk-on. One poster wants Bowden to find more local diamonds in the rough the you want more local scholarship kids. It takes more than 1 good year to improve recruiting and these kids started the recruiting process with a 5-7 team, not an 8-5 team. On top of that, it takes more than wins to attract kids. Kids look at the size of crowds we draw. Having the lowest attendance in college football in 2014 didn't help us there. TB is doing his best to win the local schools over and the articles posted at the end of the season indicate he's gained a lot of ground there. Prior to TB, there were no relationships with these schools. I also think it's ridiculous to complain about something when we don't know who we have verbals from and who we don't. Using social media is spotty, at best, and these recruiting websites, overall, Do a fairly poor job tracking Group of 5 prospects
  10. Winter strength and conditioning, I am, guessing.
  11. Currently on Roster: Nathan Bischof - SVSM Brock Boxenm- Beaver County, PA Michael Buddenburg - Massillon Stephen Erickson - Sherrodsville Nick Fazio - Streetsboro Mitchell Hlay - Richfield DJ Jones - Ravenna Travonte Junius - SVSM Shawn Kirk - Alliance Jerome Lane - Firestone Deon' Tae Moore - Kenmore Brian Reinke - Copley Dylan Seibel - Uniontown Christopher Spruill - Maple Heights Zachary Sweat - Canton Chuck Turfe - Canton Brennan Williams - Firestone Newman Williams - SVSM Austin Wolf - LebanonThis does not include seniors, transfers, kids from the Columbus, Cincinnati, or Cleveland areas. Clearly we can't get local kids.
  12. I am very pleased with the focus on OL and WR. It would be great to get a RB, but I think we have some solid talent with DJ Jones, Manny Morgan, Michael Means, and hopefully, Chuck Turfe, who seemed to have red-shirted. Honestly, I am most concerned about having a back-up QB. Tommy plays gutsy, tough football, but sometimes that comes at a cost. Maybe Caleb Chapman will have matured into a viable option if T Chapman hasn't improved enough. I hope the transfers turn out to be good catches. Gladney, Matson, and Bryce Jones were all dismissed from their teams. If any of them turn out to be the teammate that T Chapman has been, we will be alright.
  13. #72 in the USA Today http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/rankings/2016/01/13/ncaa-1-128-re-rank-final-2015-fbs-alabama-clemson-paul-myerberg-college-football/78727456/
  14. CBS has us at #66 http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25447884/cbs-sports-128-final-2015-16-rankings-for-every-college-football-team
  15. Bleacher Sports has us at #76, just behind NIU and CMU, with a 5-3 record in the Mountain West. (SMH) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2605962-power-ranking-all-128-teams-after-the-2015-national-championship/page/3
  16. This isn't the easy to go about it.
  17. 247sports is not an accurate source for these things.
  18. Kwadarrius Smith shows up on the roster already. Was he there all year?
  19. Worth repeating: first time we will have had o-line coaching continuity since we lost Tank. I was impressed with the growth of the group over the course lf the season and looking forward to what can happen this year.
  20. That we know of, right now. Akron can't announce verbals (or say anything related to a recruit) until they sign. We are depending on media and social media. I would be shocked if we didn't have more than 3 verbal at this point.
  21. Does it really matter? Lack of opportunity has not been an issue.
  22. 1) Time to catch up.... Akron has been holding its own pro day. 2) Quality vs. quantity. The Steelers are one of the biggest MAC NFL teams and they are right next door. Ask Jawon Chisholm. Getting noticed by NFL scouts has not been an issue. The lack of NFL ready players was the problem but that has been improving as the program improves. It's not unusual for NFL scouts to be at Zips home games. Playing in a program where the player has the most opportunities to develop and excel will always be the best choice for the player. The challenges fir these kids is to figure put where that s because they are getting told what they want to hear, so much of the time. I really feel for the kids who don't have parents helping them sort through it all.
  23. JB1 spotlighted in Bleacher Report article.
  24. It might have been his choice, but I wouldn't assume it was. Maybe we dropped the offer.
  25. I hope that means we gave something good going on at that position r that Avery Cagle turns out to be a beast. Williams when healthy, was good, but we need so e height at that position. We need the blocking support and another outlet for Woodson.
