  1. I could care less if you think I sound like an ass or not. Few to none, here, expresses a remotely humble opinion, so why bother feigning false humility? People said Woodson was a disaster, last year. I doubt Chapman's career as a Zip is over, he just needs to grow. Kids adapt to Div 1 football at different rates, IMHO. And, by the way, I didn't tout him for 9 months, I said let's get give him a chance...and that probably started over the summer. Was I hopeful? Sure, most of us were. If you go back to last year, I was always a big Woodson fan and hoped that his decision-making would improve as he seemed to do a far better job developing a rhythm with the offense than Pohl did. Agreed!
  2. Bell has delivered some punishing blows on ST this year. I am looking forward to seeing him as a LB in the future. Scott is a junior and I think Evans has received the press he deserves. He plays well at run defense, not as strong on pass defense. He isn't in the same league from a speed perspective as others. Watching Woodson play and improve has been a blast. He has the best arm out of the three we have seen start, and is probably the best all-around QB. I am glad his decision-making improved from last season. After hearing his comments during the post-game interview, it made me wonder if the speed of the game wasn't Chapman's primary problem. We need him to improve if he is our back-up. Tommy is a tough kid and I love to see him run the ball because he is gritty and you can tell he is pouring his heart into getting yardage. He brings a lot of energy to the offense, something we desperately needed. Watching 2 more years of Woodson to Lane and Woodson to Wolf s going to be a lot of fun. Throw a healthy Newman Williams in there with some more catches and that is a nice combination.
  3. It has been that way for several games. I am guessing he has a jersey preference that the regular jerseys cannot accommodate in terms of fit or some other feature.
  4. Someone mentioned it earlier, but I agree, it was nice to see so many of the second team contributing to the win. We are going to lose a lot with the front 7 when tey go, but we also have a lot of up and coming talent. The following will return next year and contributed on either solo or tackle assists: Zach Guiser (So) (has played well all year), Deandre Scott (Jr), Se'Von Pittman, U. Gilbert (Fr), Jordan George (R-Fr), Andrew Hauser (Jr), John Rachal (Jr), Brain Bell (Fr), AJ Turner (So), Corey Morrow (Jr), Jamal Marcus (R-Jr), and Kyron Brown with a pass break-up. I did not realize how young Zach Guiser was. He has had a very good season. I honestly thought he was a senior, based mostly on the way he plays. I am not sure about whether Pittman and Marcus have another year of eligibility left, or not, but I believe so. Not on that list, but also a guy who has been a strong contributor this year is Brock Boxen (Fr). He has played like a beast. He, Bell, Guiser, and Rachal have the ability to deliver punishing blows. And, this list doesn't cover the kids who red-shirted this season. I am also very happy to see Deandre Scott will returning next year. Defensively, our future continues to be bright. All of the defensive coaches deserve a shout out for the unit they have put together and their ability to start building the talent behind the very talented starting unit. The secondary might be the most improved unit on the field. I am very excited about the future of Zips football!
  5. Current forecast for the game is around 59 and a little rain. Could we please, just have one sunny home game?
  6. There is quite a bit if you know how to search. It's kids that mention Zips FB, not their handle posting. They can't post anything.
  7. Win on Friday seals the deal, loss gives the advantage to WMU based on common opponents and strength of schedule. If we lose, 1-2 MAC schools must get spots in non MAC bowls for us to get in to a bowl. Top 3 Toledo 9-1, plays WMU Win 10-1 BG 8-3, plays Ball State 9-3 NIU 8-3, plays Ohio Win 9-3 Middle of the Pack CMU 6-5, plays EMU Win 7-5 Ohio 7-4, plays NIU Lose 7-5 UA 6-5, play Can't State Win 7-5 WMU 6-5, plays Toledo lose 6-6 UB 5-6, plays Umass Win 6-6 Cellar Dwellers Can't State 3-8, plays UA Lose 3-9 Miami 3-8, plays Umass Win 4-8 Ball State 3-8, plays BG lose 3-9 Umass 2-9, plays Miami lose 2-10 EMU 1-10, plays CMU Lose 1-11
  8. Do a few searches... @zipsfb, Akron football, etc..
  9. It was pretty irritating - completely gone and I was in the stadium more than 30 minutes before the game and there were not 1,000 people there, yet. I could care less about the bobblehead, but I wanted a hat! Yeah, this is one of the first times where a team has defended the run to force us to win with the pass that we were able to do that. As noted, it made the run game a success in the second half. Tommy's designed run plays also seemed to come at the right points in the games to keep the defense honest. The big difference here was that the UB secondary was wide open for us and poorly defended. Whether Miami, Umass, and UB were a good barometer of where we are or not, I like the three wins in a row with Tommy getting the experience and confidence in game situations. I believe these wins will really make a difference against Can't this week and ultimately, in a bowl. Ending the regular season with 4 straight would certainly be a tremendous success for the program. Prior to the season, Bowden noted that the success of the seas would be determined in November, not September. He was definitely correct. (Bobblehead is shaking.)
  10. Both views are actually right. We.also ran a couple of bubble screens that were very successful, which was a little different, but mostly the same stuff we have seen all year. I think the big difference was in timing. Fewer QB draws on 3rd downs and more aggressive passing, period. A lot of the difference, to me, was that we were able to convert when we needed to convert. It didn't seem like the UB secondary was very good, at all. Tommy picked them apart all night. I thought his passing was much more accurate, too. Some balls were thrown to receivers who seemed to stop running or were just well defended but the pass was on the money. One interesting thing I heard on the pregame show, driving out was that TB mentioned they had hoped to be using the TE more but with Williams' injuries, and the other TEs not working out as well, they had not been able to do this. In addition to catches from Williams, there is a noticeable difference in pass protection when he is in the game. It's interesting how teams match up differently against each other and how you really can't use common opponents to determine how good or bad we are. There is a ton lf parity in the MAC. That being said, it was really nice to take it to UB after last year's pummeling on national TV. It has definitely been on the OL. K have been following visits and offers on Twitter. We are going after JUCO OL and JS OL. I noticed several players of various positions taking visits yesterday (Twitter comments) and you could see the found the win exciting. That's the type experience that can sway a recruit's choice. The crowd was small, but they were into the game and the band especially did a great job cheering on the team. The student section was more or less empty. It's tough to draw crowd with last night's weather. TB addressed the crowd, briefly after the game, but was pretty difficult to understand because he was so loud and excited. It was like, "bhjskhfvdksljfvhlksdhvkjlsdfvhjesfvlbjsfjvl....bowl." You didn't need to understand his words to understand how he felt. On a side note, was it me, or did the D deliver some of the most punishing hits I have seen all year? .
  11. Not a bad idea, but it might be hard to pull off so quickly. Let's hope for a little sunshine. That would so us more good than anything..
  12. Give it a rest. It did not hurt the team, and I think it was good for them to celebrate. This isn't a serial problem. The seniors have poured their hearts into this program. Let them enjoy it and drop the Grinch act. I loved how he quickly led the team down the field to answer the 1H UB score. I loved seeing zero turnovers in the final stats. Tommy has played his guts out this season and has progressed, consistently. Really excited about 2 more years of a Woodson to Lane connection. Our stupid penalties (except the 2 that shouldn't have been called against Davis,) have pretty much disappeared. Special teams played good enough today. It was finally the game where the balls seemed to bounce our way. It was an all around pleasure to watch, except for the officiating.
  13. I get that they restrict celebrations to keep everything under control, but calling they were mild celebrations, not even close to taunting. The rules say players with 2 personal fouls for unsportsmanlike conduct are automatically ejected.
  14. No, he will play and the penalties were ridiculous calls. I don't care about them, personally. The game was well under control and he deserves to celebrate.
  15. Awesome to see the offense lead the way today and jump out to an early lead. Tommy Woodson had a fantastic game and tied the school record for touchdowns in a half. Radio said he only threw 7 times in the second half. He sure made them count. Really happy to see Alexander have such a great game and Hundley a chance to rest. The offensive line was much better today. Really nice to see. They will have a tough road against the Can't D. Bowl Eligible!
  16. Nice piece on Zips360 on JB1.
  17. They just need to delete, "per game’. It s a cumulative number, for sure.
  18. It will be nice when they have something to make them want to rush the field.
  19. Licata is a legitimate threat but we should be able to win. This is another fairly evenly matched team for us and winning will show progress. Our secondary gave JB1 and others a chance to put pressure on Miami's QB, let's hope for some if the same. I believe we are capable of shutting them down.
  20. I have noticed all of the above. The CMU had a nice sized crowd on the home side, but the student side was pretty bad. Unfortunately, the weather won't help on Saturday: cold and wet.
  21. I was referencing crowd size, not whether we can/should beat Can't.
  22. I don't think it is the individual game promos that draw a crowd, it's the whole package. With not a ton of advertising, the August picture day event was a nice crowd.
