  1. I'm no soccer expert, but I've been frustrated this year watching this particular team try to FINISH scoring opportunities. This seems so unlike most of the teams of the last 10 years or so. No excuse for giving up 1 goal over 3 games, and you have a 2-1 record.
  2. You don't need to beat them HERE to impact home attendance.
  3. You know you can't make that comparison. There's Honks all over the state who will go to any game they can get into in Columbus, just to see the team play live. We'll never be in that position unless we are winning on a National level. Local interest is directly proportional to winning AND the opponent we win against. If, by chance, you are expecting any kind of significant change by winning 8 game, when they were primarily against the likes of Ken+, EMU, Miami, Umass, Buffalo, etc., you will be very disappointed.
  4. Hey Guys, just an FYI. Liquor Control is supposedly going to be out there hot and heavy tomorrow. I don't know exactly why someone on the inside decided to warn us about this at this particular time after 7 years, but I will take it as a warning nonetheless. As it was said to me, "make sure you're hiding your booze, and put it in colored plastic cups at all times".
  5. I saw that too. The problem is that 99% of the country would see that phrase and those colors as a West Virginia slogan. I hope we get a better idea next week with App. State vs. Miami to see just what kind of team we expect in Akron.
  6. Then it wouldn't help them as much as is needed to make them a ranked team when they come here.
  7. Yes, I think that would be a real possibility with two wins like that. If not, they'd certainly be getting plenty of Top-25 votes by that time. But, surviving the 2nd half in Knoxville is still a tall task. And trying to regain concentration after a big upset to pull off another one the following week would be even taller.
  8. Are we possibly considered a low-level need because we had done so much new construction and improvements over the last decade or so?
  9. Possibly 1/2 of a basketball arena? And LeBron can pay the other half?
  10. First of all, speaking from personal experience, I think Cleveland should absolutely be a good recruiting ground for us. I was born and grew up in the Cleveland area, and had no interest at all in going to Cleveland State, but wanted to go somewhere else that wasn't far away. I also became a lifelong Zips fan in the process. I think there are tons of prospective students in the Cleveland area who fit that category. On the subject of the thread, you would think it should be a simple thing that the Mayor publicly pushes for people to support the Zips, but we don't get that. The City should be putting up Akron banners. We should be seeing the government offices and businesses displaying signs, etc. I see it in so many other cities with a D-1 sports school. I've always been disgusted at why it doesn't happen here. The mayor's statement that "This is our homegrown University" nearly sent chills through me. This is the way it should be. Mr. Mayor: Please do all of us a favor and also walk down to the ABJ offices and remind them of the same thing.
  11. The problem is that most people aren't going to take the time to read an e-mail this long, unless you are already an engaged supporter of the University.
  12. By far, the best reaction I've seen yet to Kaepernick. She tells it like it is. And although she's dead-on, and serous about it, she also makes it very entertaining, including how she feels about his playing ability. And it doesn't hurt that the girl is a knockout. http://www.totalprosports.com/2016/08/29/tomi-lahren-goes-off-on-qb-colin-kaepernick-for-protesting-the-national-anthem-video/
  13. Ahhh...I think you've got it. He might already be looking for something else to blame, because of his poor performance, and his potentially inevitable exit. I think a college player who has free tuition, room and board, and is still pretty poor would realize they are making a huge mistake, and has a lot to lose. A veteran pro athlete who's already wealthy, lives in a mansion, and truly just wants to be an a-hole can be an entirely different story.
  14. Actually, I always thought that an NT was the middle guy in the 3-man front. In a 4-man front, don't most people usually just refer to them as 2 DT's and 2 DE's?
  15. It's ridiculous. My delay was only about 10-15 seconds, but I still knew that we scored the winning goal WAY before I could see it, based on the announcers description. It takes all of the fun out of watching. I might as well just listen to the audio only. Someone HAS to fix that. It's bush league.
  16. My first thought was that, because it was 5 in a RED (QB) jersey, wouldn't that definitely show that it was Chapman? If so, it would seem that we are going to get some surprises this year by using his athleticism and speed to attempt some big offensive plays at some point.
  17. I always respected Porter for doing the same thing. In fact, the year we won the National Championship, we started the season on the road at Top-5 ranked Wake Forest and North Carolina, if everyone remembers. This is unlike a football program down south in our state, who played a 50-something ranked schedule, and we had to hear all of their fans bitch when they didn't make the playoff. You could also possibly make the same argument concerning our very own basketball program. I've always said..... If you don't want anyone to question how great you think you are, then SCHEDULE the best, and BEAT THEM.
  18. Well, I at least HOPE that's the case. Georgetown is ranked higher than Seattle, and I think we need to do a little more than winning in the final seconds at home to convince people that we are deserving of a top national ranking.
  19. And to confuse things even further, there's also a private school in Rochester NY called University of Rochester, which is not associated at all with RIT.
  20. This might be some encouragement. We played a decent game there in 2003. Charlie threw for 372 yards. I wonder if anyone else remember this like me. I was listening to this game on the radio, and I recall Wisconsin stopping us a the goal line on a 4th down, and they throwing a long 99 yard pass on the next play to put the game away. http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/boxscore?id=4566&type=1
  21. I'm also a bit surprised that Adam seems to get all the national notoriety, when we also have another national-caliber player. Great to see someone recognize Victor so highly. .
  22. He must have just left to go to WVU, because I've seen him around here still very recently.
  23. I'd love it as a Spring sport too. This should work well for ANY major college with any recognized soccer program. I have a serious problem attending events when we get to that period where football, soccer, and basketball all overlap. This would prevent that.
  24. I'm never surprised by their lack of actual knowledge. I've always believed that these guys look at the prior year's results, incoming/outgoing players, and make a guess as to who might be the best. I don't think they look into much beyond that.
  25. For a second, I thought YouTube Tom had returned.
