I'm not a Duke fan, but I never have a problem with a school like this winning a title. They operate with integrity, don't lead the nation in violations, don't lower their standards for student/athletes, and their players will never be seen giving the Double Middle Finger to Michigan fans while walking off the field/court, or sending out "We Ain't Come To Play SCHOOL" tweets.

Dave, you get an A+ for creative writing for the day. You only forgot to add the part where the Almighty God Tressel rises from the remains of a poorly-built, pieced-together football stadium, and returns again to lead his forever-faithful throngs of followers, and rebuild their holy mecca, only to be washed away again in a flood because they repeated their earlier error of building a stadium too close to a river bed.

In case you haven't noticed, all of the "remote" liberal interests that are trying to change our laws is already causing the chaos. Again, everyone will eventually understand that this has NOTHING to do a pizza parlor refusing service. It's about the libs trying to force their beliefs on everyone else. They merely used a pizza shop as their vehicle.

Just a note here. That article takes up about 2/3 of a page in the sports section today. I was floored. I can't remember ever seeing that in regards to Spring practice. Heck, it's more than I have ever seen for most games.
-
Let me take that a step further. It's not just student sections. EVERY section in which they would want these things to happen would likely have to fully contain willing and active participants. The "Two Standers" better get their leg muscles in shape this summer

Since you're talking about "rights", please be accurate in stating that these business owners own a pizza shop, and they serve gay people. The only thing they are doing is STATING that they would exercise their "right" not to cater an outside gay wedding, if they were asked, because of religious reasons. So, at this point, they have not done ANYTHING discriminatory, whether the final version of the law would eventually support them if they refused to do the catering job or not. But lets get to the bottom line here.... If you were refused by a business to do a catering job...for ANY reason...why wouldn't you just go to another similar business that WANTED to serve you? We all logically choose the people who we feel are the most desirable to work with, right? But unfortunately, these little situations get thrown into the spotlight because the Libs see them as opportunities to try to force people to conform to their beliefs.

Michigan State just flat-out committed a TON of fouls in the first half, and really got themselves in trouble. But I believe that Michigan State was in the bonus long before Duke in the 2nd half. However, I don't think any complaining about a few fouls matters in a game when you totally get blown out of the gym.
-
Or the burden of trying to figure out how to avoid kicking off at the beginning of both halves in the same game.

OK, I'll bite. If the downward slide in NCAA tournament seeding I listed in Post #30 "means nothing", as you suggest, then try this instead..... Final RPI 2013 - #9 2014 - #25 2015 - #40 So, when you respond again to refute these additional facts about Jeff Boals' current employer, please remind us again that you are simply just "trying to keep this on topic" and that I have some "weird agenda" as you make your 100th post on an AKRON FORUM in defense of a competing school.
-
It's amazing, isn't it? Shame on me for utilizing a Zips forum to paint a picture of Jeff's current situation at his current employer. But of course, because it didn't speak highly of the recent success of the almighty Suckeyes, all it took was one Honk to hijack the thread into excuses for Ohio State instead of a discussion about AKRON'S coaching situation.
-
I'll say this.....Shaka probably showed as much loyalty to VCU as he possibly could. It really did take a mega-high profile job to get him to leave.
-
His situation may be getting interesting. I'd bet what he has happening now was not what he had in mind....being an assistant with a program that's steadily plummeted down to a double-digit seed over the last few years, and can claim only one tournament victory in the last couple of years, which ironically was an overtime win over another former Akron assistant. And now they lose 5 Seniors (3 starters) and one Freshman starter who's certainly going to jump ship to the NBA. Riding the coattails of a successful, rising head coach in a bigger conference hasn't materialized. If he becomes even more imbedded in Matta's downward spiral, he may just be looking for any D-1 assistant job.

Someone I know got an e-mail last night which explains a little more. It appears as if this is going to be somewhat of a JOB, and not an activity. I don't see any financial compensations, but you can receive academic credits, based on an individual's participation level. It got me thinking......isn't this basically what the Cheerleaders do? University-selected people assigned to the duty of "firing up the crowd"? I'll be interested to see IF anyone wants to do this, and IF they end up being effective at it. Not everyone has Wil's ability. And the "resume" thing still has me shaking my head. So would anything else that would make it complicated at all to get involved. But, I guess there needs to be some kind of selection process if this is a "job".

I'm sure that if the MAC denies the State of Indiana from hosting this event, and others like it, it will severely damage their economy. Yes, that would clearly send a statement !! People are going to take notice, for sure.
-
Aren't they just joining the NCAA's stance on this issue anyway? It's crazy for anyone to think that this somehow will raise the profile of the MAC and show their outstanding character as a conference. No need to worry. Now that control in the Senate in Washington has changed hands, we only need a new leader in the White House before we can finally put an end to this era of the government leaders strong-arming people with their own political agenda, and stripping them of their freedoms.
-
I have to question you on whether these are brief interactions. I'm at the highest level of my company, it's been that way for well over a decade, and I have all of the flexibility I want, and do whatever I want. But, when I am approached about other opportunities, I NEVER say "no thanks" without exploring, even though I am incredibly happy and secure. Whether his opportunities have made it to the public or not, I'm sure he doesn't just instantly blow them off without doing some investigating.

As far as the call itself is concerned, I think the greatest thing working against him was that it's pretty easy to say that he was not protecting himself from falling on a player beneath him and hurting himself, which is the real reason why hanging on the rim is ever allowed to begin with. But, no doubt it was very untimely and game-deciding. And I hate to see that.

I love hearing a kid from NE Ohio talk about his lifelong passion for the Zips, and say that Akron is his "dream school". I applaud Joe Dunn, and everyone else who exposes their kids to Akron Athletics at a young age. It might only produce long-term results, but you have to start somewhere when attempting to build a fanbase. How do you think the Buckeye Honks in Akron are created? We have the same opportunity to mold our youth to follow the real Home Team, and the more honorable path
-
The way I see it, the games don't start again until tomorrow, so we were just filling up the break time between rounds
-
Same to you. The number of people who truly have a passion for Zips athletics is too few. I'm sure anyone here would welcome you back, and please bring back a few thousand more with you.
-
I think this is pretty fair. Count me in this group.
-
I know. And following a first round exit last year, to their neighboring school. The Honks have been pretty quiet these last couple of winters, and will now disappear for 6 months. That's always a good thing. As far as the song goes, They chant O-H-I-O in the song, so it's about OHIO and not about OHIO STATE. So, they've always been misguided in how they represent themselves anyway. Like my wife always reminds them....."Wrong School Morons!!".

Hey Dave, Sorry, but I don't even have time to read every detail, and check all of this myself, and certainly don't have time to respond to every point. I'm rather surprised you felt that this was so important. You must have been one of the people who were touting UNI's greatness, and won't let it die. 1) Read post #30....the Selection Committee obviously saw something that you did not. 2) If my previous comments about UNI included anything about wishing to play them as a low seeded MAC school, YES, I will stand by that. Absolutely. Look at the options when you are a #12 or lower, and you decide. 3) Trying to justify the loss to Louisville by pointing out things that Louisville had done in the past is pretty ridiculous. Everyone knows how Louisville was playing. They were 5-5 over the last 10 games going into the tournament, and had just won a nail-biter against mighty UC-Irvine. 4) Louisville was actually ranked much LOWER than UNI in the two major polls at the end of the season. So, obviously past national championships have no bearing on how good you are today. There were several people who jumped on me for having a lower evaluation of NIU. They are now out of the tournament early at the hands of an unimpressive team in decline over the last month. And the loss was decisive. Can you accept that and move on? The sad thing about all of this is that I was really pulling for them. And I hope they continue to grow. They were just clearly not one of the 10 or so best teams in the country.
