  1. I wonder how all of us older Zips fans would feel if we raised up these programs to join us again in D-1A.......after all of the effort and resources it took to move above them and separate ourselves from them 3 decades ago. I don't know. It's a little bit too much Deva Vu for me to think that the new MAC would somehow start to resemble the old OVC. But much like the YSU situation, it's unlikely those schools would ever be able to garner the resources to do it.
  2. Nice job pointing that out. I only wonder what the historical increase in revenue would be after a program elevates to D-1A in football? What happened to us could be an indication, but our example is 30 years ago. You may also have to account for Youngstown's decades of economic decline when you think of the potential for increasing support just to reach a minimum MAC level.
  3. Increased Attention? Yes, maybe. But, how would you think that you could "improve a conference's image" by associating with JT ?
  4. Yes, I agree that the lower assessment of them by the tournament selection committee made a lot more sense than the AP's #11 and the Coach's #9 national rankings, which would have equated to a #3 Seed.
  5. Dave, go back and read the posts concerning UNI. I was refuting those who were defending how good they were, not the other way around. Lack of significant experience on a big stage can be a killer, and a weak Louisville should have been a great opportunity for them. I'll repeat again that I would have loved a matchup against them if I was that #12 or so MAC team. But in the future, I will definitely be watching to see if they can reach a consistently high level of success. I think it always adds hope to a school like Akron when other mid-majors show that they can carve a path to significance.
  6. An indemnification clause doesn't fit this situation. I'm sure there was a contractual agreement with Bradley to cover that expense. If the client (Ford) never had an attorney put that agreement in writing, there's no "malpractice". And good luck collecting on it if someone tried.
  7. I'll miss the winnable game on the schedule. I won't miss the fact that they are just not a good fit for the MAC, and I am sure we hated traveling there in Oct./Nov.
  8. Not me. And Louisville is not even playing well. The surprise to me is that so many of you felt so highly of NIU, and I have stated it previously.
  9. That's another good observation, besides the Team Ohio crap. I saw the Kansas Governor also. It's frustrating to see that a state like Kansas understands this, and Ohio doesn't. And I wonder how many times the Kansas honks that float around that state have probably told the poor old Wichita State fans that they just can't dethrone the state's chosen team.
  10. I was thinking the same thing. He was asked for his comments on some of the games. He spent about 10 minutes on the air talking during prime time. That will only help his cause. He's been "high profile" for over a week now, and people seemed to be gravitating toward Buffalo as a Cinderella hopeful before they lost. The Hurley name, his royalty-like legacy of being a Dukie, and is recent success at Buffalo is probably going to add up to something significant very soon. For me personally, I like the drama that could be associated with Akron/Buffalo games in the future, and I'd hate to see him go right now for that reason. On the other hand, I kinda look forward to seeing MAC guys jump ship quickly and failing with another program.
  11. We were average, at best, with no MAC titles, no bowl appearances, and no BCS-level wins in our history when Charlie Frye came to town.
  12. Caleb's passion and belief in UA, as a D-1 athletic school with hopes of rising to the top, should be a characteristic of EVERYONE that works in our athletic dept., not just the AD.
  13. I still can't figure out what happened to OU's "Willie Alvarez".
  14. Trust me. The comment was merely "wishful thinking".
  15. That's been consistent for quite some time among every connection I have to the situation. I thought this was funny: I read the article about the QB battle in the paper, and saw the pictures. I saw one picture with 4 QBs going through drills, then another with the addition of Pohl, and still had not yet accounted for Woodson. So, that was 6 QBs in spring practice. Maybe there's more? I don't know. Seems really crazy to me. But, I'm guessing it's no different anywhere else.
  16. Heck, just look at the MAC Center in Ken+, 20 minutes down the road.
  17. It's funny how "which one is actually the better team" might only be a very, very minor consideration.
  18. You're giving me two different explanations now. There's no way Toledo would be seeded higher than us, and they are not a "big school". I think your "average attendance" answer makes more sense.
  19. I'm sure this was what I was referring to earlier in the thread. He kept yelling at him and pointing. It went on for a long time. Now, I am trying to figure out if this was what he was referring to when he said one of the officials raised his hand to call a foul, never blew the whistle, and put his hand back down and let the game continue. He said that was the most notable non-call that he had a problem with in this game.
  20. Well, I guess I should have assumed that money rules the day in women's athletics also.
  21. If someone knows more about this tournament than me.... Can someone explain why we are going on the road to play Kansas State, and friggin Toledo is playing at home against Wright State???? Even though a lot of MAC teams got into this tournament, I think it's great that we are playing postseason in rebuilding year. And it makes me wonder....why can't 6 MAC teams get into the Men's NIT from the MAC?
  22. But....but.....they won't give us a return home game....and what happens if someone gets hurt.....and we're surely just going to get our butts kicked.....and......(enter other excuses here).
  23. Well, if that's the case, that would eliminate Jakubick (who they put on the list) and McLaughlin. They were both from the OVC era. And for the record, McLaughlin played in an NCAA tournament game (1986 vs. Michigan).
