  1. I'm glad you brought this up. The "Zipper" was a type of shoe. We changed it to ZIPS because we did NOT want it to be associated with the fly on a pair of pants, which was emerging as an apparel item in America. So, our nickname was never, ever attached to a Clothing Zipper. In fact, we were trying to avoid that association.
  2. I'm just having so much trouble seeing anything positive when we just surrendered 500 yards of offense to a I-AA team. Ok, so they are a "good" I-AA team. But, can you imagine what we are in store for in terms of points and yards surrendered to some teams over the next 10 games if something doesn't change dramatically, very soon? For God's sake, we have a former big-time D-Coordinator and D-1A head coach running this defense. Could we really be suffering this badly with lack of talent on that side of the ball? Those guys tore us apart, in every way, shape, and form, for nearly the entire 4 quarters.
  3. I'm with you. Unbelievable.
  4. Please, please, please, just don't give us that crap that Ken+ was wearing in the bowl game last year !!
  5. If you're referring to the way we've been treated like the ugly step child at times, that's been going on since 1992, so I don't think it's anything new, as if anyone is stepping up their treatment of Akron for any new purpose.
  6. Thanks for posting this. Apparently there's people who refuse to do the simple math, and see that 5 of the last 28 Final Four participants were from mid-major conferences. Including two of them in the same year, which was only a couple of years ago.
  7. Try telling that to Butler, who just recently played in two title games.
  8. I love closing the season with 3 home games. That could be HUGE if we end up in a "control your own destiny" situation on March 1st.
  9. I specifically remember a run where he seemed to turn his back as he was getting hit. That bothered me. I hope I never see it again.
  10. Look.....We're bigger, stronger, and faster than James Madison. Even if we aren't playing well, this alone SHOULD give us at least a 3 TD victory. And Bowden is not Ianello. It's time to erase those potential I-AA debacles from our memory. We certainly won't be kicking off to start both halves in this game.
  11. Why is anyone doubting that the talk of a joint venture from the city for a U of A Basketball arena was just that.........talk. I told you guys a few years ago, a new Akron basketball arena was likely a decade away, sadly.
  12. I don't get it either. Never have.
  13. Here's my history lesson, particularly in the short Bowden era so far. We got CRUSHED by CFU last year also, at home, and followed that up with a good performance at Tennessee, demolished a 1-AA school, and almost beat Miami and FIU in the month of September. If we can duplicate that history over the next month or so, I'll stick with these guys. And it will be a tremendous bonus if we could take a couple of those almost-wins from that same period of time last year, and turn them into wins this year. I didn't see the "wheels coming off" last year until we hit that stretch where we scored 10 pts. against BGSU (Zero in the 2nd half), and got beat badly by Northern and Central. Until that happens, I'm going to hang in there and hope that at least some of last season's history following the CFU game repeats itself.
  14. Just an example: I have a client that has 4 tickets at his company. Last year, they used them about 4 times. Makes me sick. All those empty seats in areas where we have the ability to generate so much noise.
  15. This is a major problem that has always needed a solution. I don't know the answer, but someone has to be able to figure it out. I think it's embarrassing that on an average game night, there are several hundred no-shows in the most visible part of the arena.
  16. You mean, one of the great, almighty OSWho sports programs is spiraling downward? What a shame. They haven't beaten us in quite some time anyway, even when they were good.
  17. These are very rough numbers, unless someone else wants to venture a guess to assist you. On an average game night, I'd say....... 150 before the game 100 at halftime 0 after the game (it's empty, unless you need to stop in there to pick up your coat)
  18. I'll take....... 1) A competitive game for at least a half (Tennessee 2012 would be awesome). 2) An opportunity to see some new people play, and get everything organized for the following week's blowout of James Madison. Half: UCF-24 Akron-17 Final: UCF-42 Akron-20
  19. Neither do I. But, this isn't a Team setting a Goal of Sweet 16. This was a Fan making a Prediction of Sweet 16.
  20. Nooooo. Really ?? Please forward this to the Great One in DC.
  21. The funny thing is that I'm sure many of the people who predicted 3-5 wins last year were pointing at the exact same games as the ones we are looking at as wins this year. Lets just hope that a year later, we have finally progressed enough to win those games.
  22. Oh boy. We officially have our first bold prediction, and it's coming in August.
  23. As if OSWho would be so opposed to playing two MAC teams in the same stretch of games in the same season? They would certainly not want to mess up their illustrious history of putting together a top-notch SOS, would they?
