  1. Or more famously......the location of THE TOWNHOUSE about 30+ years ago. The most popular Exchange St. club at the time.
  2. You have the story right about Crawford, you're just missing a few facts about his son. He played at Barberton in High School, and then followed his dad to an Assistant job at Tulsa. Then when his dad got the Assistant job at Florida State, he transferred there. When I saw him play in high school, he was so gifted and smooth for his age. He was unusually tall for a guy who handled the ball and could play the point, and he scored plenty too. Tron was one of my favorites too. And another Barberton grad. Crawford used to say he had "intestinal fortitude". He was a tough guy. Fun to watch.
  3. Now Now. We hoped Rourke had a bad game in him this year, and fortunately that's what we got. Maybe we planned well and took the right things away from him. But, this guy has had a phenomenal Sophomore year. Rushed for almost 1,000, and passed for almost 2,000 so far this year. Frankly, I was scared of him. And unfortunately, we'll have to deal with him again. I hope you were being funny.
  4. Zips Voice. Still to this day, I'm angry that we had the freezing cold and blizzard conditions the last time we were in this situation. It was such a missed opportunity to have some people witness a monumental event for Akron football.
  5. That sounds more like it to me.
  6. That should be a no-brainer. I would have had Terry, his players, and his staff doing a PR tour all over campus this week, whenever possible. It's about more than just getting supporters to the game. It's about MAKING PEOPLE WITNESS a big win in our history. That's what will leave an impression on people to return.
  7. Tell us what you think. I think it actually reached another level of contentiousness a few days ago, when a poster asked everyone to "shut up about Dambrot".....in the Dambrot thread....and a couple of others actually "liked" the post.
  8. Oh geez. A poster asked about how many of Groce's 83 conference losses were at the hands of the Zips. I highlighted the games between the Zips and OU during those 4 years, and the 4 MAC tournaments that they competed in against each other during those 4 years. I get where this is going. This will seem like a broken record for the next several years. 1) Dambrot supporters will continue to highlight his entire body of work. 2) Groce supporters will continue to insist that you ignore the conference records, ignore the two early Quarterfinal losses, and only focus on 2 MAC finals and NCAA games. I think that's anyone's choice what side of the fence they are on, or where they stand in between. But, I just find it odd that a few people continue to come to the Keith Dambrot / Duquesne Coach thread to comment defensively about anything that's posted that might look unfavorable to Groce. I think there's plenty of other threads to choose from to comment on the new coach.
  9. I'd be laughing hysterically if a fan of the team that was the beneficiary of a 167 to 19 margin in penalty yards was complaining that a bad call cost them the game.
  10. That's what I want. No more last-second passes from Chapman to JoJo (2016) or Kent's 77-yard drive to beat us in the final minute (2014), right after Chisolm's 80-yard run that appeared to seal the game. Hopefully, again, the home game is the difference. No drama this time.
  11. Maybe someone needed to shake the mercury in that thermometer up in the press box. But still, I can't believe it slipped from the high of 47 all the way down to 32 by game time. It obviously was dropping faster than I realized.
  12. I was "skipping" a lot of things that didn't pertain to Groce vs. Dambrot. That could have been a very long post.
  13. Depending on how this year ends, I probably will feel the loss of Chapman/Coney/Wolf as much as I feared the loss of Lane/Natson. Maybe we're discovering that finding WR's to come here may not be so challenging ??
  14. I think Rowdy Zip makes a great point about Akron being at the top of the league all of those years, despite never having the high grade of talent. But regardless, as Dr. Z suggests, there's some very interesting things you will find if you look at the 4 years that Groce was at OU, and Keith was at Akron at the same time. Here's a few: 1) In 2012, we split with OU in the two games during conference play, and lost by 1 in the MAC title game. I call that the "hanging on the rim with no technical being called when Abreu missed the free throw" game. Interestingly, this was OU's highest seed (#3) in the MAC tournament in those 4 years. 2) In 2011, we actually lost to OU TWICE that year during conference play (the only time it happened), but OU never made it past the Quarterfinals, and we won the MAC tournament. This was also the year between OU's two MAC tournament titles, and strangely, they barely managed to reach the .500 mark that year. Apparently, their 2 wins over Akron were probably the highlight of their season. 3) In 2010, we beat OU TWICE during conference play, and lost to them in OT in the MAC tournament title game. This was the strange "come out of nowhere" year where OU won the MAC tournament despite having a 7-9 record, and the #9 seed. 4) In 2009, we split the two games with OU, and they never made it past the Quarterfinals, and we won the tournament over Buffalo in the finals.
  15. I'm glad you mentioned this. Over the last few decades, as I have ventured to other stadiums across the country......including several MAC and Sun Belt games.....I hear the same thing from those who have done a good job of attracting higher than expected amounts of fans, even if they are not a P5 program. And this especially applies to the Students and other younger people. If it becomes "cool" to be at an Akron football game, more people will be there. But, don't ask me what it takes to make the event "cool". I'm in my mid-50's. I wonder how many people would have been there if the opponent was a Top-25 team? I say this because I think your post illustrates that we've all exhausted just about every other excuse on this board over the years for the reason that Akronites don't go to Akron football games. Maybe we can finally cross "weather" and "record" off of the list, based on this USF example? I don't know for sure. But, I can guess that 99% of the residents in Summit County have no idea what Akron's record is right now anyway.
  16. Holy Cow. It felt a little cold out there, but you must have heard the announcement incorrectly. High on Tuesday was 47, and the overnight low by Wednesday morning only went down to 31 It looks like we will get a very similar day and night next Tuesday, but I am crossing my fingers that those temps bump up a bit.
  17. I'm sensing a repeat of the score in the 2005 contest in the Blizzard In The Bowl game. I'm tired of these nail biters in some of these recent Kent games. Rivalry game or not, it's time to distance ourselves from that program once again.
  18. That's funny, and so true. You can bet that weather, weekday, etc., would not be a factor, if that was the event. Just wait. I'm sure some of the same people who said "People thought we'd lose to OU" will also say "People expected us to beat Kent" if the crowd is weak again next Tuesday. I'm definitely one of those people who will contend that the big difference maker is the meaningfulness of the opponent. And this won't be that ranked or high-profile opponent that we'd need to get a significant interest. But it is a Kent game, and I'm just hoping that "We'll win the MAC East" is enough to get the interest of a few thousand more people than we would have gotten if we weren't playing for a division title. Weather is still looking like 50 degrees and no rain. That will hopefully help a little bit too.
  19. Well, From this point forward, we ought to look at 50% completion, 200 yds., and 1 TD as a great performance, I guess
  20. If he graded out as at the top QB in the league for the Miami game, then we all must have been incredibly overcritical. That has to be the OU game.
  21. He can even make something good sound so bad. Thanks for helping spread the good news of Akron's football season.
  22. I wish you could look at 1 good play, and say that makes for an easy decision. I'll try to put myself into the heads of the coaches, who have made Tommy their #1 guy, and left Kato on the bench, for 2 seasons. I'm sure they haven't changed their minds about what they think he can do.
  23. Remember, I think several of their players left too. Unfortunately we couldn't lure any of them here.
  24. I would go along with that. Hopefully it does turn into a blowout, and we can get both of them some work. That would seem to leave us better prepared for the two games that will follow.
  25. Which might be exactly the reason why in-game decision making is being criticized when a coach seems to recruit well, but has a 71-83 conference record.
