  1. Is it asking too much to require these people to do just a LITTLE BIT of homework before they write these articles??? Running the ball this year for the Zips will once again be the combination of Van Edwards Jr. and Manny Morgan.
  2. Unfortunate for him that this story breaks on the weekend that he is going to get inducted. http://www.miamiherald.com/entertainment/ent-columns-blogs/jose-lambiet/article165207992.html
  3. I hope plenty of you did stay up for the 3rd Quarter to see Jason's career profile, and interview. Of course, someone should have told Tafoya that it's not Ak-RON. Especially when she said it right to Jason. Like my wife said to me, "Hasn't she probably heard the name of LeBron's hometown spoken about 1,000,000 times during her time as a sports reporter"? Just during that short segment, I think they mentioned the U of A maybe 4 times? Including that it's "just down the road" from the HOF? A nice bit of free publicity. Very touching that Jason said that being a HOF Father was something that he wanted to be noted for. I also thought it was kinda cool that at least 2 of the inductees said that they'd be presented by their wives. As Kurt Warner put it, "she's the only one that's been with me through all of this". I just think it's great when anyone who has a career with very unusual demands recognizes their spouses who sacrificed so much of their own lives to support them for so many years. I think I'd probably do the same if I ever got inducted to any business HOF. I'm sure someone will make a comment that the ladies benefit from the money, but in many cases (like Kurt's) there were plenty of tough times where things weren't going so well.
  4. The perils of typing out a quick reply at the "dusk" of my work day.
  5. I'd take Les in a heartbeat. And I don't think it's all that tough to imagine, compared to maybe other "big name" hires, because of his age. Solich was about 60 when he went to OU. Miles is 62 right now. Likewise, I think he'd also have to face the reality that he's in the "dawn" of his career. I think it would just be a matter of whether he considers OUR particular MAC school to be a good opportunity for him to smell success one more time.
  6. That's a really, really interesting idea. Printing and distribution is obviously costly if it's an actual physical publication. I can vouch for that as a sales exec. who's been a part of plenty of "mini-magazine" or mini-newspaper type projects. If that's what you might be thinking. Coordinating the "News" part of such a publication is out of my area of knowledge. All the reporting, writing, etc. You'd need to rely on someone else to figure out what is involved in doing that part. Do any other major schools even have their own exclusive newspaper-like publication for sports? And is it done by an independent entity? I wouldn't even know.
  7. Oh my. It really does. The Beacon is so pathetic.
  8. Their OOC scheduling philosophy has been obvious for years. But if there was ever a chance to get a regular season game, it might happen now since they probably will see us as fitting in with some of home game cupcakes that they like to schedule.
  9. Incredibly informative, as always.
  10. I see where you're coming from now. Good post.
  11. Let me just say this. Many coaches who make players better use styles that are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Individual athletes can even respond differently to different types of feedback. And personally, I don't feel that I would have accomplished what I did if it wasn't for my own father criticizing my effort, my work ethic and my lack of self-motivation to improve when I was younger. I'd actually have my concern about any athlete who can't channel negative criticism effectively, because D-1 athletes who are 18-22 years old have certainly already been getting plenty of it for years. This would not be the first place where any of our athletes have seen/heard someone tell them how great they are, or how bad they are. Even long before the social media age, some of us would love to read newspaper articles about us, and others would ignore it. Some would laugh at what it said. Others would get pumped up and go out and work even harder after reading it. Everyone is different. You're entitled to whatever opinion you like. I respect that. But your post seems like it was written in a way that implies that we ought to be positive about comments about players if we want them to perform at their best.
  12. After all of the talk/promise/hope surrounding Kato, I'm disappointed to see him at #4 among QB's. Maybe now I understand why we weren't rushing him off of the bench to resurrect our season with about 4 games to play last year.
  13. Great recollection!! And it should have been 3 shots. And since Dials was a 90+ FT shooter, it likely would have gone to another OT. And we should be pissed if they don't give us a return game. They did give us that return game after the one above, in 2008. In fact, they brought a 9-0 team to the JAR and I recall B. McKnight had the ball in his hands with a chance to beat them at the end. So with all of that said, I do believe that their intention is to get an easy game during the post-Dambrot fallout, and have no intention of a return.
  14. Much more willing to buy out one year rather than two years. Just saying.
  15. Guys, I think you're right that this is OUR year to hit the necessary average. With that said, I'll modify Zipsoutsider's prediction and say that we'll have an additional 5k-10k "invisible fans" at all home games this year.
  16. I thought that people were starting to develop "safe places" to provide refuge for upset American youth ?
  17. They started the preseason at #14 and ended the season at #20. So, it sounds like the pollsters had this one pretty accurate (not a common occurrence). You laughed as if that was some sort of colossal collapse?
  18. Why you hating on Schaefer Beer? That was my beverage of choice in my college days. I'm sure I wasn't the only one. Your best option was to pick up the Quarts for 59 cents at a convenience store. Great buzz when you were drinking on a minimum wage job budget. Any other early 1980's Schaefer fans out there??
  19. ?? They finished that season at #20 with a 9-4 record, and all losses coming to ranked teams.
  20. Looking at how Michigan's season turned out in the end? Yes. But at that time, they were carrying a Preseason #17 and had just moved to #11 after upsetting #12 ND the week before. However, since you point out that Penn State would be a bigger prize than Michigan, then for me that would be even MORE of a reason to play to WIN.
  21. This has always been my opinion, no matter what valuable player we're talking about. When you are an AKRON, you have to give everything you've got in those games, like a Penn State game. They are program changers. For those who were also in Ann Arbor in 2013, you know what I mean. What if we had been sitting starters that day? We wouldn't have been sitting on the 2 yard line with a chance to win the game with a few seconds left. And that Win would have meant more than any in our history. I agree. If you want to sit him, sit him when we don't need him during the UAPB game.
  22. I think you said this accurately. It's skepticism. I think most everyone here is seeing everything you see in at least your items 1-4 above. And along with you, I think that people feeling as if he's "injury prone" might not be valid, although you may not know that he also had a foot injury that once sidelined him for an entire season. But here's where I think the skepticism enters the picture if we ignore the injury question for a moment. His star rating is from his 2011 high school season. He's carried a football something like 50 times in the last 6 years? It looks like he slipped further down the depth chart behind others besides just Elliott too, after getting decent playing time as a freshman and sophomore. If just sitting behind a better starter was the issue, why didn't he find his prospects of playing in his Sr. year to be promising enough to stay? I was there to see his long 38 yard carry (and fumble, unfortunately) at Wisconsin. Impressive run. But we don't have anything else besides the VMI game to judge him on. There's no doubt that ON PAPER it looks like he could be a great MAC RB. I'm glad he's here. I think we're all just acting a little frustrated until we actually see a body of work that shows us that this might happen.
  23. CNN will be all over that. Hours of TV coverage and a call for a Special Prosecutor to "get to the bottom of it" will soon follow.
  24. And in this day and age, some might even find it "offensive" And that includes being offensive towards Dorky White Guys.
  25. Noooo. You saw people talking about that here??
