  1. You guys are making too much sense, STOP IT! Logic and any media assoc with Univ of Akron by law (Sec 101.1:paragraph 69) cannot be logical or efficient. A lawyer friend who graduated from Akron told me about this.
  2. why play a I-AA school?...its not like we are going to go out and win 8 other games...play a D-I school that you can compete with...sunbelt...low level cusa...how many of you go to the morgan state game if its in october and not the Info. opener?+1If you want to think small, expect small results. We can 'play with' any team. Can we win, probably not, but that doesnt mean we wont try. I'd rather see a historic DIV-1 team here than a historic IAA team. B-O-R-I-N-G. Besides, dont the wins again lower conferneces not count?
  3. If I was a player, no way would I leave. You have one of the nicest facilities in the country to play/practice/train in. You will be coached by a fresh set of eyes which will allow you, the player, to show your talent and ability without any restrctions. You will have several more years to beat K*NT!!
  4. My son is on the team and feels bad for JD, however it became apparent during the middle of the season that the coaches were not in agreement most of the time to the point that there was alot of infighting, etc.....when you loose the coaches and assistants you cannot be successful...GO ZIPSInfighting of coaches?!? That is a failure of THE HEAD COACH to not control his staff. JD brought in all these alpha-male former head coaches thinking their experience would help. However, with too many cooks in the kitchen.....
  5. Many posters on here make a point that JD failed because of all the injuries and bad breaks. THIS YEAR, you could argue that point. The previous three years this point is not valid. His record never improved from 2005. That is four years of mediocre, at best, football. You could argue his previous 3 recruiting classes were poor due to the Rubber Bowl looming over the football landscape. That may also be true, but still not an excuse. The coaches from Ohio U, Central Mich and Bowling Green had to recruit from the same players' pool with equal or sub-par facilities as backdrops. Yet those 3 programs have succeeded beyond expectations. Therefore, what is the "X-factor" between being a winning program and a consistently poor program. I agree with scottditzen that JD's teams never seemed to acquire an identity. I think our coach never stressed any over-riding focus on identity. The teams was a pass-happy team one game, then a run-focused team another. The next coach needs to create a team we can consistently identify with every year. I want to know our offense will use not only RB's, but also Fullbacks as runners. I want to see passes to TE's, WR's and RB's. Why cant the team have an offense that doesnt look always confused!I want to again see our defense have shut-down Cornerbacks/Safeties (i.e. Hixon). We need more players like Brian Wagners and Amondo Sewells. Slow players with heart should be passed over. Transfers from Ohio State and Iowa should be passed by. I am so sick of having other teams' throwaways. Our football players currently here deserve to win. The fans of this college desereve to see an entertaining product. What type of football would you like to see next year?PS....go Zips soccer, rifle, volleyball, track, basketball, baseball and softball!!!
  6. The deck is an eyesore! Maybe it will look nicer and blend better whence a red brick front is applied. If not, then the retro, 1970's gray concrete front we will view will remind us all of the glorious days when every building on campus wa that color. Parking may be needed. Especically when enrollment is peaking like never before. But to say parking is so much worse than the mid 1990's is a joke. Enrollment isnt that much more; 28,000+ now compared to 24/25,000 in the mid 1990's. Three to four thousand more students on campus at a given time just means you have to be more creative. Park off campus like many of us did when we went there.Anyways, enjoy your new parking deck. May it outlast Shrank Hall.
  7. My 2 cents are we win against the evil-doers from Portage County and have a shootout win vs E. Mich for a turrible 3 win season.Bye Bye Brookhart!
  8. Cursed may be a bit harsh, but I get your point. The answer is........Alumni...as in school pride and school support by "our" alumni...Most.. err...99% don't give a damn, so why should anyone else.Wait, so you're saying our ALUMNI have cursed the football team? How so? Indifference is not evil voodoo magic. It's just non-caring either win or lose. Broken legs, player suspensions, coaches beeeennnding rules, bad play calling, more bad play calling, more injuries compounding over many years creates a Peanuts-style black cloud that follows this team whereever they play. I think Faust sacrificied live chickens before he left so no other coach would ever succeed.
  9. The kicking-returns-field goal-punting units are SPECIAL all right...just not the special i want to watch.
  10. +1and fed up, disappointed, without hope, and mostly just like a fan of sports in Ohio.....sigh........
  11. Agree with you that however this season turns out I will remain a Zips fan. BUT............does it have to be so agonizing to watch?! I am a fan. I want to be entertained, and this year has been anything but fun to watch. The gameday experience (tailgaiting, fans, friends etc) always pleases me. The actual games are the opposite of pleasing. Demoralizing, boring, disappointing are the words I will use until the on-field product improves. As a fan, I hope it does. As a realist, though, my hopes are dashed.
  12. It can't be his in-ability to run the ball, can it? I think it may be due to his inability to pick up blitzes and/or something personal by JD. Just cannot figure out why Torrance is not playing more. Tuzze is a FULLBACK! Not a feature Halfback. Anyone have inside info?
  13. Great photos! They capture in pictures the key moments of the game well.
  14. I first was going to rage (again) about the bad coaching decisions, the bad play calling and the overall unfun nature and appearence of the 2009 Zips Football program. After a pause, I figured out what would please me most of all. I just want to watch an entertaining product on the field. I want to see consistently good plays and 100% effort for the rest of the year. I hope for no more yawn-inducing second halfs the rest of the way. Entertain me Zips! Make me look forward to more than the tailgate scene. Be competitive. That's all.
  15. Thanks! The subtle changes you noticed were 6 to 5 instead of 8 to 5 step size during run on and a new arrangement of Rock and Roll #2 where everyone is playing the whole time instead of just the low brass. Halftime we added some more park and bark sections and a ton of horn to the box moves. I think the biggest difference between the Info and the RB is simply that when there are people sitting in the seats the sound gets absorbed into peoples bodies rather than bouncing around off the stands. When we rehearse in there with the stadium empty it is LOUD. Unfortunately the reason it seemed 2-3x louder may be because there were 10k less people there this week...Much improved! And yes, I have to take back what I said last week about the band not playing loud enough. When the stands are empty, the band's sound does carry more. We heard your practice this past Sat 3 hrs before the game. You were much louder sounding than when you played at halftime. Also, kudos for having movement in your formations. When you take a sound and rotate it around, everybody can hear it. When you face the richy-rich ticket holders only, we in GA cannot hear you. Thanks, and keep up the great sounds!
  16. The Akron PeeWee Rams (if they still exist) could figure out after a few plays that the Zips run a slowly developing half-draw run up the middle on first down. And they would probably stop us too.Remember "Metcalf up the MIDDLE"? Zips run the 3 yards and a cloud of rubber pellets offense.
  17. They are thinking:"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!'"OH CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!""HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!"
  18. The problem wasn't with local law enforcement (APD, UAPD, SCSO), but rather with the state liquor control agents. They were the ones busting people for open containers. That said, three of them walked right past me in Lot 9 and never said a word about the beer-filled cup in my hand.Same here. Two games so far. Same location in Lot 9. Cops on ATV's and police on mounted units passed by us multiple times. We had red plastic and paper pepsi cups filled with various adult beverages. Our ages ranged from 35-60's. No one was ever bothered, questioned or stopped. Even while walking through Lot 9 on our way to other lot scenes, we saw no problems or overtly rowdy behavior that would warrant ticketing and/or arrest.I say it was an isolated incident. Nothing to see here folks....move along....
  19. The only good thing I can forsee about a mediocre team this year will be the tailgaiting will be increasingly more open to allow for a wider open lot 9 passing game.Oh yeah, and more adult beverages for me! Also, less people will allow for me to lay out and take naps in the stands when the Zips have the ball.
  20. Akron has a crappy Orange Marmalade JAM Offense= jam everything up the middle in hopes the Defense bites then pass outside towards the sidelines (for 4 yards). We need a Blackberry Spread Offense=using multiple sets and formations "spread out" the offense to incorporate all possible receiving targets (WR, TE AND RB).
  21. Great post! Good luck indeed. Hope he succeeds. I just want to watch a Zips game in late December.
  22. I cannot be patient any more. Years of Owens era teams almost winning and almost having great years was the first straw. Then, we had a miraculous 2005 that made us all hopeful for the future. Four years and no bowl berths later due to failed recruiting, (?) missed opportunities, and come from behind losses was the second thing. Now, we have a first rate facility with a third rate team. Either our ability is no better than the early 1990's OR we have bad decision makers in place throughout the coaching, training, recruiting ranks in the program.Even though I am a season ticket holder, I WILL NOT watch the Zips go through another sub-.500 season of could've, should've, would've. I was done with the Browns last year.I am done with the Indians as of this year. Please Univ of Akron Football, do not make me give up my allegiance and support to you.**Anyone up for a nice game of quality soccer?**
