  1. I have a better idea. Instead of trying to make everyone happy, keep one RB in the game as much as possible. Let that player get into a rythm and ride the horse until he is exhausted or hurt. That's how they do it in the NFL.Let's get the ball into our best playmakers hands as much as possible.... #10 and #1.No they do not, not any more. The NFL has changed in the last few years. More and more teams are moving towards a multiple RB set up. Look at TENN, SD, BALT, and TB, etc. Norman Nobody has to stop running the ball. Who the heck is he? Where did he come from? Wasnt Allen and Torrence our featured backs even as late as August? JD needs to start Torrence and Allen in a 2 back set.
  2. I've been noticing the same thing with all Brookhart teams! Why do our DB's and LB's play well off their receiver when in a man to man coverage situation?!?! A little bump at the line or some tighter coverage and mistakes are more probable.Although....I too knew we lost even before the first snap. Once Zippy lost her head and stumbled around looking for it, THEN got back on the Segway and proceeded to implant herself headfirst into the turf, things were looking bad for us. Other thoughts:Tailgate at Lot 9 was once again a blast. We had plenty of time to wander several lots talking to fans and even some Indiana people. Btw, the sandwiches at PINTS are pretty good for $5.We run the most un-creative offense i've ever watched! First play always hand off awkwardly to someone not name Devoe for 2-3 yards. 2nd Down throw a short pass to the left-side flat for 4-5 yards. 3RD Down and 2-3 yards, we either run the same failed first down play or try to force the ball into coverage. WTF?!?!?!?! 1) Do we not have 6 RB's that can be rotated in the backfield? Maybe a throw to one of them out of the backfield as a safety measure could be tried.2) Are our TE's incapable of either running a pass route and/or catching a pass? Is that why we do not use them?3) Bowser=speed, strength Bruce=possesions and clutch and LaFrance=? These are our only threats? Is our mediocre play mostly due to unqualified playing ability or could a better or at least more creative coach do more with this bunch?
  3. If there has been info posted, I have missed it or probably overlooked it knowing myself. Is the soccer game going to be broadcast either on radio or tv? I cannot make it and wanna hear the Rowdies reaction to every goal we get tonight!
  4. It's a really hard problem to fix, but I understand. The downfield stuff during pregame is designed so both sides can hear, and it works. The Hey UA cheer where we flip the UA logo and playing Win for Akron to the back side before heading downfield I think are both great steps in the right direction. We did turn around for most of the last song during halftime, hence the grad student on the ladder on the back sideline. If we did continually flip back and forth people would complain they could only hear parts of the song. I know the average fan sits in GA, but most of the people who pay a lot of money to be there and are there for almost every game are on the pressbox side. If we played to the East Stands the whole time you would see ten times more complaints.I have season tickets in GA. I WILL be there for every game. Yep, those richy old-timers UA alumni get all the perks. Maybe have the band split and have a 2-sided formation playing to both sides simultaneously! Just a suggestion. I don't know how feasible that is, but High School Band day is this Saturday, so for the last couple tunes there will be approx. 900 musicians on the field. Will that work for now?Sure! When playing in front of large crowds, use the old Spinal Tap notion and turn it up to 11! lol

  6. "I have seen video from both sides of the field for Saturday and I can understand how it seemed unenergetic from the General Admission seats. Those are a long way up there and it is very hard to hear the band. Most of the quieting in the GA section was probably due to people trying to hear the band, from the other side it wasn't a problem at all. I think if you were sitting on the pressbox side of the stadium you would have a very different opinion of at least pregame."I agree with you, however, i wasnt sitting on the pressbox side. Neither were 15,000 or so other fans (minus a few Morgan State fans). My group stayed in our seats for the halftime events hoping to see a good show and were disappointed. We could barely hear the band. The announcer helped only in telling us what was being played. My opinion is this: It would have been nice if the band played to the whole crowd. I would have liked to see the band do more movements thats "circled" their sound around the stadium. The formations looked great, the uniforms looked snappy, yet the overall performance lacked because we could not hear you.my 2 cents only....
  7. +1Then you better stay clear of "Zip Hop Ale" the next time it's brewed!I will try to get a handle on OBC's planned tailgating schedule this week.Great news! I am happy to hear about a local business (and a beer-centric one at that) getting involved with game days activities. Hopefully more local area businesses will come on board. What other businesses would you guys like to see being involved?I saw Hopping Frog Brewery for sure.
  8. Hopefully for the better too. Then it can be re-named Zipsville. LOL
  9. Whatever happened to the really cool alternative hats that were on the scene 2-3 years ago? You know the ones where a large kanga was on the side or skewed at a weird angle. Anyone have any info on finding such merchadise?
  10. WOW! 13 games at the new stadium is so cool. To the tune of Cleveland's tourism video:Fun times in Akron this fall. Its Akron!!Come and take a look at our new stadium.Hey thats a crack whore at the Plasma CenterOur Zippy statue at Mickey D's is really cool.ETC..........WE'RE NOT YOUNGSTOWN!!
  11. Any chance that you rich cable subscribers could upload it to youtube, vimeo or some other site?
  12. hehehe....good oneEveryguy Mgr: "Hey there pal, are you a season ticket holder?!"Me: "Yes sir. I'm so excited for the new stadium and to see how all the new players do!" "Tailgainting should be interesting too."Everyguy Mgr: "Oh. Well, I don't know about any actual players on the team and dont think I'll be "in the lots" before the game, but thank you for your support to the University. Hey, do you play any golf?"Me: "Um, no.... Hey, I need to go talk to my buds" [i turn 180 degress away from the DUDE to grab another beer]
  13. Got mine today too! Very nice collectible-like look to the tickets. This fall is going to be so much fun. 18 days and counting until gametime...........
  14. Cool! I saw this:"Akron will host a Stadium Preview Event on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 11 am-1 pm. The public will get a feel for Game Day at the facility as scanners will be tested at the entrance gates, the videoboard and sound system will be fully operational, concessions will be available and the Zips football team will be on hand to sign autographs."Wonder if they let us "sample" some Roo Brew? Also, hopefully they bring back the bell sound from "Hell's Bells"
  15. Wow! At 1:13 on the first video, I got chills. Cannot wait.... GO ZIPS!!!
  16. I may be criminal, pal, but it is for being a CRIMINAL OF FUN!! What, are you one of Reserved Seating kinda guys who shows up AT gametime and leave with 5 mins left in the 4th quarter to "beat the traffic"? I know you better than that champ. :Dmmmmmmmmmmm....Boone's Watermelon..............mmmmmmmmmmmm
  17. Here's my solution:Let's take a page from Iran and several African countries and just declare ZIPS NATION the new AD under divine guidance and popular opinion. We can run the Univ of Akron by committee and by OUR wants and needs.Tailgate where ever you wantRoo Brew in drinking fountainsTake a cheerleader home for a day program1Think of the possibilities.......
  18. HAHA, I understand. We'll work around it.Not that I have the $$, but I did see this: www.tmz.com/2009/08/13/makin-money-off-reggie-millers-mackin. It cost $3000 to fly a plane over the beach. Maybe we can pull our resources and do a fly-by with a gigantic ZN.O banner on game day or at least for the Can't Game! Haha!
  19. I just read over the GoZips.com guidelines for game day tailgaiting and game day features. Does anyone know how the Ohio Revised code is interpreted in regards to open container, grilling out next to your car and general pre-game festivities?I am asking because it seems what is said is way more strict than what may be actuall allowed. I use allowed activities at Browns games as an example of what is technically illegal but still occurs. Also, for comparisons sake, check out these guidelines: http://stadium.gophersports.com/prk_tailgating.html"Tailgating may begin 6 hours before game time, but no earlier than 7 am. Tailgating must end 4 hours after game time or midnight, whichever comes first. "
  20. ABJ: Skyway restaurant plan in holding patternSeveral months after a sign went up announcing a new Skyway Drive-In restaurant was planned for East Exchange and Spicer streets, in the shadow of a new University of Akron football stadium, no work has been done on the site. And it's not clear whether the plan will ever move forward. The sign announcing the restaurant is still there. But city of Akron Planning Director John Moore said no drawings or plans for the project have been filed with the city.Steve Large, owner of Skyway, said he does not know what is going on with the site.Read the article.so who owns the property? anyone know of how to find out?
  21. A disgrace indeed. But maybe that one disoriented and thinly-challenged person need a cookie or something due to lack of sugar from giving blood, plasma, brain cell whatever.I'll probably look like that too after a game if the ole Zips play defense like they did last year. (joke!!)
  22. May have already been mentioned.....but a pre-game march-through on campus would be excellent. An annecdote:I went to see Akron play Univ of Virginia in Charlottesville in 2004. The campus there is beautiful but very similar to Akron's in that it has multiple parking areas scattered across campus and a central pathway through campus.About 30-45 mins before the game, my buddy and I had parked a short walk away from the stadium and went searching for Zips fans. We followed some people to a street going towards the stadium. Within a minute or so, we heard the definite audible sounds of drumming. As we turned the corner on the main road to the stadium, we saw The University of Virginia Marching Band, Flag Team and Cheerleaders all marching in file announcing another start of a football game. It was amazing to see! This pack of students got everybody's attention. Veteran fans and alumni knowingly congregated towards this street and a giant pack of fans, students and out-of-staters (us) were led Pied Piper style down to the stadium. When this mob arrived, they did not enter the stands, but rather and perfectly turned in unison away from the stadium and towards the accumulated fans along the path. They then proceeded to lead the fans in the Univ's alma mater and several cheers before herding us into the complex. (The best part were the cheerleaders stood 5 feet away from us! )If our Spirit Teams could coordinate something like this, I can guarantee you will have everyon's attention.
  23. Yeah, but MOST of our guys havent played in NIT or Championship games...it is just a hugely generalized statement which at the least is inaccurate and at the most is bad journalism.
  24. Is this author full of crap or is the rest of the conference less experienced than Akron is with 7 freshmen? EXACTLY! I thought the same thing. The lack of knowledge by local media is appalling. He thinks cuz the Zips have been in post-season games the last several years, that the majority of our players have been too? Um, hey Elton, there is something called graduation in college. Players move on and new ones come in to the program. For once I wish media people do some basic freshman-level journalism class fact checking before they post a story.Jeese.
