Of course I want Da Zippers to win, but man we have NO OFFENSE!From MacReport Online: We are better than Toledo for sure. So hopefully our 'D' holds to a low score and forces turnovers and we escape with a win. Is it just me or is thsi years team very similar at times to the vaunted Baltimore Ravens team a few years back when they had no offense, great defense and somehow found themselves in the Super Bowl?

I agree with ZipsRifle. The comment "You have to get your tix a few weeks early" is not realistic. People have things come up, family matters to attend to, etc. As a sports fan and a lover of Bell's beer, I should be able to be completely spontaneous & go grab tix on campus on Friday, then drive up to the game on Sat morn. Our athletic department for whatever reason should at least try to be more accomodating to its large and spread out fanbase. And yeah, why no bus? Why is no Zippy and cheerleader party wagon going to WMU? I just wish our school and athletic programs put a little more EM-phasis on thinking BIG and thinking like the larger program schools. You know the saying "As you think, so shall you'll BE." Well, let's think BIG

Woohoo!! Zippy is 3-0 and in first place.

Please TAKE OFFENSE to Neil Diamond, Barry Mannilow, showtunes, anything from the 1970's and 80's that was a Top 40 hit w/o extensive drums and please, please take offense when our school gets outshone by another, be it during the game or the halftime show.BUT...this past Sat the band sounded AWESOME! Keep it up guys!
-
so i was sitting in my seat at halftime with 6 friends and turned to my buddy when the band came on and said these exact words:" boy i really hope they dont start off with a neil diamond or barry manilow selection"AND.... Neil Freaking Diamond....boy it really sucked, looked nice, but really stunk. And they didnt even play to where the fans were sitting....WTF?
-
Umm, maybe, only if Jabari quits trying to emulate Braylon Edwards with all of his DROPSIES.

i got it, we form a travelling tailgating party....move from THE PIT to the Upper MALL C LOT to the MUNI LOT....and back again.....those who stumble or cant keep up can root for Army

-
why do you say that? have you been there? why don't people come down there, there's more space, bigger area AND its closer to th stadium...
-
The Port Lot may be the best option cuz as someone else said, the muni lot will primarily be Air Show fans, the Mall C lot may be really lame and who the heck wants to party in a parking deck? Planning on being there round 3 and hopefully will find other Zip fans in lots not full of Army or Air Show people.~Chris

Dear Dude,While I do agree more fans in the seats would make for a better overall band viewing experience, after watching how the band performances used to be (1990/91), the current unit has been lacking for several years now. These type of songs are EXACTLY why I for one cannot get into the current unit. The ability is there for sure. The quality of song choices? No. The above mentioned songs are NOT GOOD BAND songs. Copacabana?!! Are you serious? Not only is the choices lame, many of them come off as very gay-like, very lacking in ANY testosterone what so ever. I want loud, drum-centric, pumped up songs. I want to see choreographed movements. Would be nice to see "ZIPS" spelled out, if we had enough members. Look again at the band alumni video. That is how a band should look, sound and feel.Again, I am NOT criticising your ability, just the song choices and lack of overall energy. We could have the min-script "OHIO" but with a "Z" "I" "P" "S" "ZIPS!!!"~Chris

Of course the Cleveland Stdm game IS NOT A HOME GAME....DUH!!!If it was a home game it would be at the RB....but come on, why be so literal?!!The Zips now get in a bus, drive a car the 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic, to the RB for gameday. What is the big deal with them sitting on a bus for 35-40 mins to Cleveland stadium?!It is a lot closer to home than ARMY IS.....SO LETS CONSIDER IT A HOME GAME PEOPLE.Let's bring banners, bring all the AK Rowdies, bring busses of fan and make it feel like a RB game.Besides the facilities are 10x nicer than the RB...and now with all the restrictions at the bowl (where to park, where to sit) the stadium WILL FEEL just like home ~chris

I live in Lakewood, literally 5 minutes from Browns stadium. For me to bike/drive/take the RTA down to the game to see MY ZIPS play ARMY and be able to tailgate and hangout before/after the game is AWESOME!!!! You people on here who are whining STOP IT!!! The game is going to be a fun time. The atmosphere will be major league. The teams will be pumped. When a play happens, you'll actually hear what the announcer says. There all kinds of restaurants/bars nearby in the Warehouse District. Lakewood is right down the street where many more cool drinking/eating establishments are located. So it is not at our BELOVED rubber bowl.....GOOD!! I enjoy my tailgaiting as much as anyone, but to be able to do so and see MY ZIPS in a professional setting will be a pleasant surprise. And I do not have to drive to Columbus or Connecticut to do so.Make it AN EVENT...come up to Clevetown a day early...get a cheap hotel room here: Days Inn Cleveland Lakewood12019 Lake AveWest 117th St. & Clifton BlvdCleveland, OH, 44107 US 216-226-4800.Set up ZIPS Headquarters here: The Happy Dog5801 Detroit Avenue • Cleveland, Ohio • 44102on the SouthWest corner of West 58th and Detroit www.happydog58.comGo here:Great LAKES Brewing CompanyHave fun with this. Make it a Labor Day mini-vacation. Believe me, after growing up and living in Akron for 25 years, a weekend in Clevetown with your Zips and friends will be worth it!~Chris ***my 2 cents***

I live real close and am planning on hitting the Lizard unless my group can score free tix. For those of you going real early to the Lizard, does someone want to ask the manager there to reserve a section for Zips fans?If not, I'm afraid i would catch "something" if Flush fan were too close... ~chrisOh yeah...it's 11:23 am and

good point...guess mine is that the Uof A is gonna do what they are gonna do. All this stuff bout "Oh, trust our beloved school" stuff is silly. Guess i agree with your point in that we really dont have a say in the matter.I DO NOT trust the school or the bureaucracy and politics of it all...BUT....there's nada i can do...I'm just hoping for a nice design that is very functional yet not lacking in feel or vibe. A design that DOES NOT look like a high school team's stadium. I remember when Jacobs Field opened. It FELT so great to be down there. It was a destination spot. People walked around with big eyes and open mouths....(and those werent the hookers on east 9th..haha)I want a design that make all us fans proud to be a Zip!NO BAND BOX structures or open ended/detached seating designs! Oh yeah, almost forgot....
-
Ok guys, I too HOPE for a good design and a good feel to the stadium. I HOPE it is designed to blend into the campus and look like a 21st century, state of the art structure. One that attracts people far and near, one that creates awe-struck expressions to all who see it.BUT......All you people who say TRUST in the university, trust in the trustees, I say what gives you this HOPE? The new bldgs on campus do look phenomenal and are state of the art. But this is the Zips athletic dept we are talking about, not a science bldg or dorm. This department doesnt have the best track record in listening to its alumni and fans and considering its own students. All the "designs" i've viewed looked less than stellar. Look very Dix stadium-esque. I too HOPE for a nice final product, heck anything is better than the Condom Bowl. I'm hoping the designs are not set in stone as yet and that a truly symmetrical (clean) or mostly enclosed complex is considered. A design smaller in scale to UVA's stadium is much better, feels more like a PLACE TO BE and real vacation-type destination than any crap-arse design like DIX stadium or any of the other rinky-dink MAC stadiums.Hoping it is a complex that shines for 30 years and doesnt need "upgrades" in 5 years because it wanst designed to fit the needs of the school or the team.Just my 2 cents....Commence ranting.....

A Little Akron Tourney History

I'm a bit younger, but remember the Bosley, Ball, Ryan "The Ennforcer" Andrick, Andy Hipsher teams, Tarver lighting up the basket, Nate Schindewolf....remeber the Hollingsworth and Tarver games where both would score at will against anybody...good times...remember Ryno almost fightinh Coach Hipsher during a game haha... -
Great info Bird! Didnt realize many other teams are comparable to us for FT's. Guess my point was Akron is better as a team than most if not all MAC teams and many other mid-major teams. We should have at least 3 more wins this year based on FT's alone (Miami, Toledo, and at least one out of the non-conf games). We should already have a Mac Title secure and be giving more time to younger/less experienced players.I'm a fan, alumni and Akron advocate, but get so burned when the "ALMOST" mentality permeates all of NEOhio sports teams. Here's hoping Akron wins out, kills the first 2 teams they play in the tourney and shine on TV to become !
-
OH DEAR GOD!!!54 FT's!!! And they made 32....jeeezus f'in Chryst!! We suck so bad at this, WHY?!!!!The Zips are going to go out in the first MAC tourney game b.c. of this, i will bet on it.~chris

Miami=Mike Fratello Cavs=boring, grinding, deliberate basketball. They win more than they lose, go a little ways in the tourney, but cannot beat the great teams.Akron=Mike Brown Cavs=full of talent, full of athleticism, but full of inconsistency. Both teams SUCK at FT'S. Both teams really CANT win a big game if their life depended on it.I'm also curious about the FT'S. Shooting a free throw is a skill, not a talent. The more one practices, the better one gets. So....why doesnt Dambrot drill into these guys the importance of that and have the team shoot more in practice. Also, why not have the team actually NOT toss up 3-pters once in a while and work the ball down low to Romeo and Wood?I am so sick of rooting for an ALMOST TEAM. Same thing with the football team. Sucks to be a Zips fAN TODAY.PS...and please dont tell me "hey dont be so negative, we do have 20 wins!" My response? Over whom? Scrubs...all of them.
