+1 I just wanna root for the Zips, Cavs, Indians and Browns. Most of my time that means watching on tv b.c. I cannot afford a ticket.

IF true, then so sad. Actually IF true, it shows complete lack of caring or interest in the UofA to have the 'Akron' brand promoted beyond Summit County line.

A fan survey to help athletics staffs understand college football fan behaviors. Looks like it was taken in 2007/8. Think any UofA official/admin/marketing person ever read these? Here: Examining Your Strongest Fans and Core Supporters Here: Division I Bowl Subdivision Fans' Team Rankings by Conference Here: Moving the 'Swing' Audience Here: Segmentation Presentation Lots more data for you numbers geeks. This is what we as fan in our area follow and why: East North Central Region Fan Profile There were 3,289 total fan interviews conducted among adults with 396 interviews done in our region. GO FIGURE: Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Michigan are among the top teams followed in every geographic region – Notre Dame is among the top teams followed in every geographic region with the exception of East South Central. In the Mountain region they are the top school followed even though the college is located in the East North Central (Notre Dame is 3rd most followed team).

I am with you guys, a record of 5-7 maybe 6-6 is within the Zips reach. Anything more is a nice surprise; anything less a disappointment. Heck, its Akron athletics, surprises DO HAPPEN------>SOCCER------>

And thank god for that! Oh, come on now, who can honestly say they don't miss the Chuckery? Ahh....can we all please pause for a moment of silence for the old Chuckery. mmmmm...smokey goodness...dark, beer-smelling walls, yeah!!

Why would They take Temple back? They got rid of them because they were THAT BAD! in football. All of a sudden the have the rare good couple of years and they open their arms to welcome them back be cause of the T.V market? That makes no sense. Keep this in mind, If the Big East wanted Akron (and I belive in my mind they do because of the NE Ohio market) I almost promise you that if the Zips is offered to join, they are going to say "If you take us, you take Can't also!" Guys, guys.....NO WAY IN HELL does Akron look good to other conferences. We have one of the worst football teams in FBS the last 5 years. We would bring nothing, no tradition, no fan base, no money, no market to a new conference. The NE Ohio market only works if you have a product people want to see i.e. CAVS. Akron can barely compete in the MAC-one of the most badly performing conferences in football. No way would the team be able to compete in a Big East setup, competively OR financially. Not happening.
-
Yeah, i cannot wait to play some games at the wonderful generic Akron Stadium.... Damn, we need some good football news...soon.
-
And thank god for that!

I disagree on both counts. The MAC needs to dump Temple at whatever cost (there is no cost, they don't bring in anything that improves the MAC's finances or reputation). They are not worth the money spent feeding another mouth or travelling to and from Philly. They don't help attendance when MAC schools play them at home, they don't get us a better TV contract, and they screw up our scheduling so we can't play rivals that people actually care about seeing us play. And how can they be our best program? They haven't even won their own division, let alone the conference, since joining. They don't even have enough support to have their own football stadium, instead they have to rent one from the NFL. There is so little support for football that their fans are willing to go independant or drop down to 1-AA, or drop football altogether, instead of bringing their hoops program to the MAC. If football was important to them, they would bring hoops instead of risking getting kicked out. Why should the MAC allow them to continue to leech off us with nothing in return but a few token basketball games? Temple football was 9-4 overall last season. They beat Navy. They were 6-1 in the MAC, losing only @ Athens. They were up 21-7 vs UCLA in the 3rd quarter of their bowl game. They ran out of gas, but they had a good showing. The cost to travel to/from Philly vs. any other place the Zips would travel is negligible. No opponent helps the attendance of any MAC program. MAC attendance blows regardless of the opponent. No opponent helps us get a better TV contract... and who the hell wants to watch MAC football on the TV anyhow? The support for Temple football grows at the program experiences success. That's not unique to Temple. You'd see the Zips attendance rise if we'd go 9-4 for a few seasons. What "rivals" do you want to see play in lieu of Temple? Would you have rather watched a crappy Miami OH team play the Zips in 2009 than a quality Temple program? I liked watching Temple kick our ass last year (56-17). They thoroughly out-classed us at every position. It gives me hope that we can do the same (in the MAC) one day soon. Temple was no better than us a couple years ago. It doesn't matter what Temple has done, overall, in MAC football since they became a member. What matters is the direction they are headed. And since they have joined the MAC, they have headed one direction -- up. Playing in an NFL stadium is a plus, not a negative. That stadium is awesome. Didn't they schedule a home game with Penn State? That beats the hell out of Gardner Webb. People on the MACbbs board are, for the most part, idiots. You will figure that out one day. Temple is a top MAC football program. They are talented and fun to watch. They are one of only a thimble full of MAC football programs who can not only escape embarrassment when stepping up in competition, but actually have a shot at winning. And the fact that they give the MAC 5 basketball games per year is a gift from the Gods. It allows MAC fans to see Top 25 programs in their own venue. That would never happen otherwise. +1 Cap'n. Temple is in no way "leeching" off of the MAC. How can they be? They are already a successful football program within the conference, their basketball team has great history and their location is in a primetime media area. How can they be leeching off us? There is no tradition-rich or traditionally winning program in the MAC. Who or what exactly is Temple gaining other than having Akron, Can't, Miami, the Michigans to beat up on? I for one welcome the competition. Maybe Akron can attain Temple's win-loss record within the next several seasons.

Akron Tailgate Lot Priority Policy
goodthts replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Every time I hear something like this, I lose more faith in the athletic department doing anything right. Right. Political campaigns, non-profit charities, heck even on campus club fundraisers accumulate their donations from many, many small donations and few large donations. If the UofA would have offerred us the same lot but charge us $100-500 per spot instead of just kicking us out they may have actually made more $ on this decision. Instead they have (hopeless) faith that the "big" donors will show up on gameday and relish in the pre-gameday experience. Last year, all these "bigwigs" would pull up 5 mins before kickoff in their Cadillacs/SUV's, whatever, pile out of the lot with the walkers, canes and sweaters even tho it was 75 degrees out, and stare at us real fans enjoying an adult beveage, tossing the fball and eating some brats. Their money and/or status in life breeds indifference. Same thing for the Admin of the UofA. These are the same folks who stay seated the whole damn game, rarely cheering or even looking excited. Granted, not much to be excitied about the past several years. -
Creating revenue is always a good idea for a non-BCS type school. I think Akron could do something like this, but not for parking spaces. Maybe for vouchers to go up to the upper levels of the stadium and partake of some Roo Brew? Or maybe just get off their high horses and sell beer to Joe Akron everywhere in the stadium? Will never happen...Akron is way too conservative for that type of drastic and possible problematic change.

+1 AND +1 for RootforRoo44 stated: "WHOA WHOA...too much common sense here. God forbid the Athletics department does at least one smart thing for every stupid thing they do. " The University Administration just like every other business entity does not operate according to common sense, customer feelings or good will....rather they operate by the almighty dollar. We are nothing to them and never will be. They just like our money. -
Maybe Donovan McNabb will stop by with LeBron and his New Jersey teammates. They both would be free Sept 5th.

Good breakdown except for this: "High point Akron mounted only a pair of victories over F.B.S. competition – with one coming against winless Eastern Michigan. So, for the first time in the history of the Countdown (this disaster just turned three), a team cites a win over Can't State (by eight points at home) as its high point of its season. Congratulations?" Yikes! So I for one am hopeful that there is improvement in at least their record, but also in my drink selection pre-game. Some things just DO NOT go well with brautwurst.

I vote the same for ZachTheZip. Until you prove otherwise with a good post for once, you're crap too.

WKYC story on salary of top 5 university presidents
goodthts replied to Jake's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
A little defensive? SO? Did you want him to take the offensive and criticise the tv reporter for make a lot of money to read a teleprompter and looking pretty? Why does evey public figure need to stoop to the levels of media-types these days? I thought Proenza represented the UofA admirably. Leave it alone. -
Official ZNO Photographer?
goodthts replied to bUAkronG's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
Hey Akronnnn and moderators.... I vote for your official induction as our photoperson. A thought: Could a FLICKR and Twitter site be created so our little org could show a more official online presence? Might be easier to get a media pass that way. I'll voluteer my time to generate articles, thoughts, Can't State insults. -
There was an article in the ABJ about it. The psych department having a "wall breaking" rather than a ground breaking. No wonder I missed that article. There's nothing to it. It does look cool, though. Anyone notice this one.... Can't State Article what? cough...i missed that...cough...good article.....cough...

$100-200K? ridiclous I say focus on local and regional acts first, bring some midlevel acts in several times a year and maybe a "big" act during Fall or Spring....but nothing on the scale of DMB would be doable. Would love to see Akron have an identity as a musical destination again. Heck, it kinda is, just many people do not realize it.
