Are you Serious!?!?! Bwaaaaahahahahah.... Have you been ?I love THE ZIPS...The Team...JD? He still has to prove something to me. If the team can go 3-1 and get into a bowl, then maybe. Now, no way does he deserve a vote.
-
Lucky lucky lucky win!!!however....bumping this back to the top....any way to fix the D this year?
-
I agree completely. IF a new DC or even head coach comes in and continues the 3-3-5, then I am done also. Unless our offense consistenly puts up 35+ points per game.
-
From Tuesd PD: And no D: "The Akron Zips continue to struggle on defense (215.4 rushing yards allowed , 400.6 in total offense). While coach J.D. Brookhart says the Wisconsin game to open the season skews the Zips' numbers, certainly playing Syracuse, Army and Can't State balance that out. Akron, last in rushing defense, 12th in total defense, is coming off a home loss to Bowling Green in which it allowed the Falcons, one of the three worst rushing teams in the MAC, 175 yards on the ground. That not only opened the passing lanes for BG to get a comeback victory, it lifted the Falcons' rushing average to 110.8 yards per game. Yet Brookhart contends the Zips are close, defensively. 'Our kids, defensively, have played pretty dang hard and almost well enough,' he said. "We want to stop the run first, that's what we've got to do.' "Almost well enough JD?! Wow, you would of thought he was hanging with Romeo Crennel. Being LAST in any defensive category does not fall into the almost anything category. It stinks. As does the "vaunted" 3-3-5 travesty that has been our D-fense the last several years.Question again for this forum:Is JD, like other area coaches (Tressel, Crennel), too stubborn or too close to the situation to see this setup (3-3-5) just doesnt work? Or is it just that JD and the coaching staff have not recruited or not been able to recruit quality defense players and we are stuck with a coverage defense?I am looking for intelligent criticism here. Please do not respond with "FIRE J.D" or any other silly rhetoric. Thanks all.

Zippy is one of only eight female college mascots in the United States. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._college_mascots. Hit 'CTRL F' then type in female. Zippy is one of a select few....and she's hot!

I think its just an illusion, because its always about midway through the 3rd quarter my buzz wears off and I get sleepy. Maybe the same thing happens to the Zips?

7//2/86? Hmmmm, when did the Dead break up? Was this one of their last shows? My good friend Mark Carpenter, ex-girls HS BB coach here in HI was road manager for Tom Petty for many years, likely at that time. Here's a nice story for ya: And it begins with an admission -- I knew just about nothing about the Dead, when back about 1993, 94, something like that, I was leaving a movie at Kahala Mall Theaters here, couple miles baja of Waikiki. This was close to midnight and the mall was closed and almost dark. Just before geting to the mall exit there's s stairway that leads to an upper parking lot and a fancy restaurant. As I approached the stairway, these two VERY shaggy 40-something guys (50-something?), came down and stepped in front of me. I wasn't trying to listen in, but overheard the one bearded guy say to the other, "Hey man, just wait till we get back to the hotel, I got some great Kona shit I picked up yesterday." "Man -- that should be a perfect match for the 40-year old merlot I brought", was the other guy's comeback. Talk about aging hippies! Well, w00t will be glad to know that the next day's paper had a feature on the weekend's concert by the Jerry Garcia Band. Yeah -- it was the great man himself, I ran into, with the beard. Only time I happended into him, but I've bumped into many a pint of Cherry Garcia since! Haha...agree with the many dabbles into a pint of Cherry Garcia. That's a real funny story! Imagine some Kona Gold, 40 YEAR OLD MERLOT!? and Jerry playing some tunes in a Hawaii hotel. TO be a fly on THAT wall!

Here's the pic, hope to see it soon:

If all else fails, we can still attempt to sneak preferred beverages into the stadium. Not that I've ever done that before though.....

Friggin ridiculous!!! Wonder how many of the jurors will now have bar tabs for free? People are just not smart in this day and age. And being from the customer service realm, i know.OR....you could say Manny the Moocher is a genius. Now he is set for the rest of his life and his family. Anyone have an idea what his new digs will look like?

First off, this schdl is way better than years past. 3 home games before Halloween are great, meaning we may actually have some nice tailgating days ahead! The 18 some days off in Oct/Nov is idiotic! This is football, right? Not Bball. When has a non-bowl bound team ever had off that much time in the middle of a season? Means we basically have 2 half-seasons now. The Zips will play 8 games (5A/3H) hopefully getting a split there, then rest up for trick-or-treating and heal their injuries. Then the last 4 games (2A/2H) will probably also result in a split, making the Zips even at 6-6. The result would be an average year, but at least not a losing one going into the new digs. If the Thu, Nov 13 home game with Buffalo is the last ever at the RB--got to agree I don't think it is either--then who's up for a ZipsNation party wagon/bus going to the game and getting a block of rooms downtown for afterwards. We could have a right ole send-off for the RB. And stash any RB "collectibles" in the bus. Also, as with any project subject to academic/governmental politics (re: InfoCision Stdm), I am scared too the building will not be complete in time for an early fall '09 game. Let's hope Rhodes and Proenza really push all details through to see this actually happen, because we've already lost one possible match up. Here's to the Bball team making a run, the summer being sunny and warm and the excuses for another crappy offense in the fall being non-existent!!

I also remember some great games, although they too are mostly losses and the details are kinda vague. The great wins I really remember were Charlie Frye's first real game when he came in for an injured Nick Sparks and brought the team to victory. Also, the televised win several years ago when we got to storm the field afterwards was awesome! The losses (as with any fan from NE Ohio) are the real memory stickers:- the games against Worthlessberger-led Sweaters. I think there were at least 2 home gamess where the Zips looked like winners in the 4th only to see "big" Ben bring his team to victory.- the crazy game where Leftwich left the game injured and then came back to shock the Zips at home vs Marshall- even remember some good last minutes losses when Butchie Washington couldnt scramble away from the opponnents b.c. we never really had a great o-line- sitting on the old and unrestricted bleachers on the home side for a season next to Brandon Payne's family. We always yelled "HOUSE......OF.......PAYNE" and some jackarse old alumni told us to be quite and that we spelled "PAYNE" wrong.....classic

Quick question: Where in the greater downtown/campus area are there HISTORIC houses? Also, the rights of private property owners vs. public/govt institutions is an age old dilemma. Both sides always seem to bicker. Both sides always say their side is the right one. I can agree that the whole AU vs. Exchange St businesses has been handled badly by both sides. But, I have no sympathy for owners whining and moaning like they were caught by surprise by the stadium location AND their lame arguments that their establishments are civic/univ minded and good for the area. Odd Corner---hippie haven of bongs, dildos, and concert t-shirts=no lossTanning Shop (old coffeehouse)---yeah, just love seeing semi-attractive Akron coeds walking around with an orange fake bake=no lossChopStix---seriously? This place is dirty and the food isnt even that good=no lossAroma---place hasnt changed in 10 yrs/havent seen one good improvement made= no lossManny's/15 other bars in same location in last 10 yrs---unless you're 21-24, do you seriously still go there?==no lossSeveral houses that serve as local business fronts===easily replacedSun Bar and Grill---except for nostalgic purposes of past drunken times===no lossI will be happy to see all these places go. If the Univ was also civic minded (probably are not) then they should offer Sun and Aroma a seat at the table for spots in the new complex. Otherwise, good riddance.

All I know is that while driving around Lakewood and Cleveland, the only signs of college BBall advertising are for the close by schools of CSU, BGSU and Toledo. Yep, kids, you heard right. Billboards in the NEO are promoting schools 90 minutes away.Guess we will all have to wait for the tidal wave of promotions that will come when Ms. Zippy wins the National Mascot Challenge?
-
Sorry, been a fan since the early 90's, proud graduate of the school and this team is just horrible to watch. Sure, I support the school. Support the staff? For what? Until they put together a consistent product on the field I will state my displeasure over the current woe-ful state of Akron Football.BTW, who said Brookhart was brilliant in the WMU win? Zips got lucky. Now we need to get lucky several more times this year if we even wanna start thinking bowl games.True supporter but also a realist.

No offense to Temple, but I could've passed on the Zips Defense. There were so many open WR's and please do not get me started on the 3-3-5 scheme. Uh, hey guys if you only have 3 guys up front, makes it pretty easy to run the ball or scramble out of the pocket.Brookhart is quoted in the PD as saying: "We weren't being conservative on offense," Brookhart said. "They took away the pass and we had to take what they gave us." He F'in INSANNNNNNEEEEEEEEEE!!! Brookhart is basically saying he and his staff couldnt outthink Temple's staff. He's ADMITTING he can't coach his way out of a paperbag. We had a 20-3 lead to start the 4th. We couldn't throw to the RB out of the backfield, the TE out in the flats, someone other than Jabari? Sure #81 dropped a pass, but her came back to catch a TD afterward. Don't we have 3-4 receivers? What the hell happened to Gary Pride, Johnny Long. We can throw on any one down to Jabari, Owens, Fuqua, 2 TE's, 2 RB's outta the backfield.I am not asking for our offense to be a juggernaut and put up 40 every game. Just want a team that plays to win on every down, on every play. As a fan of the Browns, Cavs and their Martyball/Wilkens coached teams, I just want to be a fan of a team that doenst for once play not to lose. Please Brookhart and staff, don't MAKE ME root for the team down south, please make me a believer of the Zips.~Thank you and goodnight.

I gotta agree with scottditzen: This offense is not only conservative, it is appalling. The Cap'n said: WHAT!? Limited talent? So, we don't have the best offensive weapon in the MAC in Jabari? We don't have 2-3 highly touted and under used running backs? We don't have huge, beastly and woefully underused TE's? And why no Fullback or double RB setups? No, the problem is once again having inexperienced coaches trying to get cute with something that shouldnt be, an average middle of the road offense. As Doud Dieken always says to be successful as a team, you need to throw the football, run the football and catch the fooball. End of stroy. You have 2nd and 2, you load the backfield and run it. And not some lame stutter-stepped draw or weak handoff, RUN THE MF'er!! I get ill just thinking how bad we look on offense.... Signed,A Zip fan trying to be supportive, but losing patience FAST.

Worst Coach Ever!At best, worst play calling in an easily winnable game. Damn this mediocritiy.
