I think Cleveland State is going to win the Horizon League this year. Norris Cole is on the NBA Draft Radar for late 1st or early 2nd round. You lost to the best team, at least in my eyes, in the Horizon League. And yes, even better than Butler.
-
Have your eyes checked after you play Butler. I know more about the Horizon League than you do. Luckily our league has an online video network: HorizonLeagueNetwork in which you can see all the teams play their home games live for free. I've seen a great deal of basketball on there the last two years and I am telling you: Butler, Detroit, and Cleveland State will duel it out for the #1 spot in the Horizon this year. Hell Dickie V even went out on a limb to say that Detroit could be this year's Butler and make a deep run in the tourney. Expect 2, perhaps 3, from the HL to make the tourney this year.

Dammit lol! I wanted that one so so bad. YSU nearly pulled off a win that most thought was improbable. Tremendous effort by my Penguins, but like they always say, the game isn't over until the last second ticks off the clock and boy did that just have to happen tonight. Wright State at the buzzer last year, this year it is Akron. YSU looks strong this year, good luck against CSU on Wednesday. They, in my eyes, are the best team in the Horizon this year.

Sure we only return three from last year, but we stunk last year so that is a good thing. Our best players are Vytas Sulskis, Devonte Maymon, and probably Damien Eargle defensively. We have great depth and a great attitude. Akron is a better team on paper, but don't count out YSU. Buffalo fans thought they were going to kill us, yet we beat them by 11. At one point we went on a 17-0 run in that game. This one will be closer than that line. Go PENGUINS!!!
-
Don't look past Youngstown State on Saturday. I am not expecting us to beat you, but we are off to a 2-0 start and just beat Buffalo by 11: 64-53 tonight. Good Luck tonight vs. Dayton!
-
How's that new football coach doin'? I know nothing about YSU football, but I will go out on a limb here and say, better than ours! We started out 3-1 then have lost three in a row. -Went on the road to Missouri State and went up 17-0 early before blowing it royally in the 2nd half and losing 35-25. -Came home and led at one point by 10 points.... Later hit a field goal to go up 29-28 on North Dakota State with 50 seconds left before they stormed right down the field in 20 seconds and winning 34-29. -Went on the road to Western Illinois and led by 10 at half. Led the final five minutes of the game 38-34 before WIU drove 80 yards in one minute to win 40-38 on a last minute TD. So we stand at 3-4, but if we had any sort of defense we could be 5-2 right now or 6-1. Our offense is very good starting freshmen QB's and running backs, but our defense is GOD AWFUL. We are now starting two two freshmen in the secondary cause the seniors were playing pitiful.

That kid in the CSU ad is a Youngstown Ursuline Alum.. Go Horizon League! CSU - YSU over AK!
-
Maybe if Coach Heacock, or Hiccup, was still here, but not anymore lol! YSU is off to a 3-1 start after winning three in a row at home against the defending Pioneer, Northeast, and Missouri Valley Conference Champs. In 2012 and 2013, I believe, the FCS teams have 12 game schedules due to the # of Saturday's during the regular season, perhaps we can meet up then!

Another MAC team embarrassing themselves...

The best quality win for the MAC just might be Temple over Villanova. Sad but true I'm afraid. YSU actually had 18,025 trimmy, but we get your point. -

Like I said, they expanded: -
That's simply not true. Brookhart left the team with as much talent as we've had in the past decade. We're not in horrible shape, at least we weren't until the Rob Ianello tornado of incompetance came spinning its way into town. This team has the talent to play for a conference championship, but with this career loser position coach running things, we'll be lucky to win a conference game. Remember I am not an Akron fan.. I am an outsider looking in. You may not think your program is not in horrible shape, but it is. You have the best facilities in the MAC, yet you are the worst program in the MAC, at least one can argue that. Your previous coaching staff had a chance to recruit SOLID players to Akron when they were building that stadium, but they failed miserably at it. Let Ianello get some recruits here, and if he fails, then his time is up. Can you help me understand why you post here so much if you're not an Akron fan? Does Youngstown State not have a fan forum? We already won today, 31-7, in front of 18,025 fans at Stambaugh.. Not too much to talk about my friend. However I wanted to come here and at least defend your coach. You guys are nuts if you want him fired after two games. Few of you realized how bad your program became under Brookhart... now that you see it, you want Ianello's head...

That stadium seats 19,000 fans as they expanded to what it looks like below, MINUS the endzone seating. And there is NO WAY you had 10,000 fans in the game. The side behind GW had NOBODY in it.. It's one thing if the game was not on TV, but I watched the entire thing. Expansion Plans: -

Hmmm.. Only difference is their stands are packed, your's were empty today as I watched online. You brought that one on, not me lol! -

Liberty is a Top 25 FCS program. They are moving in the right direction and have a stadium that looks eerily similar to you on a smaller level, though they are planning to expand it to eventually go bigtime: -
Give the guy time. He was left with a program in horrific shape. You guys always seem positive, therefore just stick with this guy. Brookhart destroyed your program and it will take 2-4 years to rebuild it. How can you fire a guy when most of the players are from the previous coach. Let him get his own recruits at least!
-
Appalachian State, North Dakota State, James Madison, and now Gardner Webb. FCS Football is good football folks. Many of the recruits at FCS programs are good enough to play in the MAC. Many MAC fans hate to admit that, but it is true. What was the crowd of that game? I watched it online, the place was empty!
-
Would not at all be surprised if two of those six basketball games on STO are against CSU and YSU... Just saying..
-
This will be an early Christmas present for the ankle-bitters from YSU. Their only goal in life is to brag about how much better they are than us. Too bad our football team is so "scared" to play a mediocre FCS team It is too bad you guys are scared to play a mediocre, soon to be perennial, FCS team. Have fun with that powerhouse known as Gardner Webb.

Landon Smith committed to Youngstown State this morning: http://www.letsgoguins.com/columns/footbal...h-in-2011-class He must not think that he is good enough to play at a bigger school. Or maybe he wanted to play for a college just a few blocks away from his house. We found ourselves a WINNER! You are exactly right.

Landon Smith committed to Youngstown State this morning: http://www.letsgoguins.com/columns/footbal...h-in-2011-class He must not think that he is good enough to play at a bigger school. I came here to post where he committed and you made a comment like that. My response is this: he wanted to come to a school that actually has a history of winning. Judging by those lists of offers, he was destined to be on some mediocre or bad program. Anyone following YSU knows they will soon become a force again under Eric Wolford.

I am simply stating what I was told by someone that was at the Akron Rec that witnessed the scrimmage. Have we been mediocre since Tressel left, absolutely, but if any of you are following our new coach, you will know that YSU will soon return to the promised land under Eric Wolford.
