  1. Hilltopper has it corrrect. If you want to use a great private course venue then you have no choice but to have a Monday event. This outing has significantly increased participation since moving from a public course to Silver Lake CC (2009) and Portage CC (2010). The afternoon flight was added due to the morning flight being sold out and more golfers wanting to participate. If you have any questions you can call or email Amanda Aller in the Men's Basketball Office. Her phone number is 330-972-7781 and her email address is ama38@uakron.edu.
  2. I heard about this change from KD while in Montreal last weekend. There are both pros and cons as has been pointed out in the previous posts. This was not a league office decision. League decisions such as this follow a bottom up protocol for approving the changes. The coaches mull over the options and if they have a majority decision it is fowarded to the MAC Council of AD's. The council then vote on acceptance or can reject the idea and send it back to the coaches for further review. Most of us did not like the past format of division leaders getting the top seed and bye's in each bracket. This option also has some negatives (most notably the ability for two strong teams in a very weak divsion to get to the semi-finals wthout playing a game on a neutral floor). This format does make it harder to run the table if you are not seeded with a bye, but KD does not view it with disfavor.
  3. Last season's practice jerseys. Some new players are wearing last year's seniors numbers.
  4. From the McGill vs Zips stats sheet ZIP's numbers: FG% 34-61 55.7% 3FG 5-12 41.7% FT% 12-25 48% Most minutes: Justice 22, Egner 21, Green 21, Marshal 20, Abreu 17 All UA players scored except for Petersen Redmen out rebounded the Zips 31-29 They don't track assists. Turnovers: Zips 12, Redmen 26 Not surprising based upon the starting lineup and the constant lineup changes due to the heat, the Zips bench outscored the starters 50-35. Attendance: McGill 170, Akron 7
  5. Mike moves up to Illinois from Cincinnati. http://es.pn/rba4ck
  6. Seems like their AD can play both sides of the game. Interesting comparing this suit to the Ford/Bradley litigation.
  7. Pre-bid meeting was held on Wednesday 7/14. Bids due on 8/2/11.
  8. A current review of the Can't State vs Ford/Bradley case: http://bit.ly/iTEMEE
  9. Save your money during this coming season. Nothing like FL or NV is planned. The following season the trip most likely will be to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
  10. We will be returning to the Portage Country Club for this year's outing. Please mark your calendar to save the date. If you haven't attended this event in the past, I highly recommend you get involved this year. Both the morning and afternoon flights were huge last year and records were set for attendance and money raised for the program. If you are not a golfer, consider signing up to attend the lunch with the MBB coaches and staff on the patio at Portage. Brochures for the outing will be available at the Men's Basketball Celebration Banquet this coming Friday evening.
  11. GolfWeek article on the Zip's upset victory. http://www.golfweek.com/news/2011/apr/18/m...ois/?BLOG-BlogU
  12. Email Chad Gerrety for a current list of the Zip's Athletic Corporate Sponsors. His email addy is: chad.gerrety@imgworld.com
  13. GP1 Said " Maybe when people go to games, the lose some of the nuances of what other fans see on TV with replay, etc." My reply "Maybe people who rarely attend games lose some of the nuances of what others observe because they are limited to the viewpoint of the game camera."
  14. Man, I have TWO degrees from Akron, shouldn't my mansion by two times better? That would make Ada Zip's house bigger than the Ohio Northern University President's Mansion. Ada Ohio building codes do not have a "mansion" classification.
  15. The following quote is from the gocreighton.com story on the game: "The crowd of 2,861 was 995 fans fewer than the 3,856 that attended the Oct. 21 soccer game between the schools in men's soccer last fall."
  16. This article from today's Birmingham News is a sportswriter's analysis of the number of JUCO football transfers into division 1 programs. The study period covers the last four years and shows results by team and conference. He has the MAC as the conference using the third fewest JUCO transfers averaging 6.7 per team. ACC is the lowest at 1.9 per team. WAC is the highest at 17.2 transfers per team. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/01...s_sign_the.html
  17. Got to disagree with you on this one. My concern is not that some young staff member tried to promote his pro team. My concern is where is the editorial control in the athletic department. This should have been caught by a management team member and nixed before it was displayed. If it continues you could see all kinds of personal messages appear that all seem innocent, cute and I guess forgivable. Would a "Go Heat " message be ok at the next game? It is hard enough for the development department to raise funds from former athletes. I hope Mr. Taylor doesn't get a copy of the photo in this thread. Poor choice of song lyrics one week, and a stupid score board message the next game. Foregivable if it stops but I see a disturbing pattern and a lack of control.
  18. If we beat OU I think even Steve Hawkins will have to vote for us. We get good mid-major press in other places. This article has two mentions of the Zips. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6007351
  19. Alex continues to improve his game. The hard work shows. Photo of Alex holding his All Tournament Award was taken after the "U" game.
  20. Great game, great atmosphere and a really large crowd of Zips fans. This is by far the largest fan attendance we have had at any regular season tournament. It was great to meet many of the player's familys that have not made it to Akron this season. A special compliment to Alex Abreu's mom Ada and the Diggs family for getting out to Las Vegas to see their first Zips game. 20 hour turn-around will be tough but it is easier after a good win.
  21. My experience at these multi-day tournaments is that sitting together is no problem. The crowds are fairly sparse. Puerto Rico and Daytona Beach both had 50-150 fans per school. Fairbanks had much larger crowds (not much entertainment competition near the artic circle with little sunlight and temps below zero?).
  22. ZW - You still have time to change your mind and join us in Las Vegas!
  23. http://www.southpointeventscenter.com/even...all-central.php I am flying out on 12/20, Continental afternoon non-stop, CLE to LAS. Returning Continental non-stop red-eye arriving in CLE on 12/24 6:30am. I may stay at the host hotel because the team is there or maybe on the strip. I know a few fans who are staying in the central part of the strip (Bellagio to the Wynn area). Who is going and where are you staying?
  24. Nate #22 continues to get good playing time (avg 30 mins). FT and 3pt (although few attempts) are good percentages. http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/nate...game_stats.html
  25. Bad Kitty! Cincinnati mascot detained, cited By JOE KAY, AP Sports Writer CINCINNATI – Cincinnati's Bearcat mascot was cited for disorderly conduct after a snowball-throwing incident in the stands during a game against Pittsburgh. Heavy snow covered the field and stands for the Big East game on Saturday afternoon. When Pitt's Dion Lewis scored the second of his three touchdowns in the half, students pelted him with snowballs and were told to stop. A school spokesman says the mascot also was told to stop throwing snowballs in the stands and pushed a security guard, knocking both of them to the ground. The mascot was detained and cited. He was not identified. A backup mascot took his place at halftime.
