Bulls vs Zips @ the Q - March 12th at 7:30
Big E Zip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
We also need to control the tempo of this game. Buffalo ran OU ragged last night and found open shot after open shot. If we want Big Dog to be the difference maker we need to control the pace. -
We know we're not getting an at large, but our RPI is at 30 now compliments of several teams from our OOC playing well right now.

Joe Dunn stated it this afternoon as well. -

That's very concerning having to face Antonio Campbell. I worry about Big Dog and Kwan getting into foul trouble. -
Mac Coach of the year opinions.......
Big E Zip replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
This always feels like the comeback player of the year award rather than coach of the year. As was previously stated, I think Dambrot is the best coach in the league. That being said based on how they actually choose the coach, I'll take Whitford. -
I agree that this will be a hard fought game. But I feel like we just need to hold on tonight. KD had said Pat should be back for the OU game. While he's not having a stellar season, defensively it will make a big difference. Not to mention it will help our rotation and minutes played which should also hopefully help us with our big guys getting into too much foul trouble.

Skip, number 2 is a painful and hollow experience.

I'll be extremely disappointed if we don't win the MAC. Not just because I want to win, but because I think this team has a real shot to make a couple of waves in the ncaa tourney. I don't want to lose that opportunity. But as we've seen lately, it's going to be a tougher road to get there than I would like.

Another good article by G.T. In past years I haven't been pleased with the coverage of the team. But I think he's really stepped up his game this year. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/university-of-akron-men-s-basketball-zips-big-week-begins-with-home-game-tuesday-against-buffalo-1.662222

I'm happy with the win, but until I get an update on Big Dog I'm not going to feel good about it.

The ball movement is the best I've ever seen from the Zips. It's as if each guy would rather have an assist than take a shot. The chemistry is hot right now. I think it has to do with trust in each other and belief that your teamate is going to make the shot. About as selfless of a team that I've seen. Defensively we continue to get better down low. I think they only had 12 points inside the paint. What a massive turnaround from the last CMU game. If the season plays out as it is going, we'll see these guys again.

Ya there's video. I think I saw it on Hustlebelt.com

To be honest I'm shocked that we're even favorites at all considering they beat the two teams we lost to. And their loss to Western was influenced by having 4 guys tossed out of the game 3 minutes in. I'm not trying to be negative, but this game does worry me.
-
I know Miami is no juggernaut and the score against Eastern doesn't show it, but the past two games imo we have played our best perimeter defense. In addition we've been able to accomplish that without getting foul trouble. However, as previously stated, they were much lighter on the whistle last night.

The entire game I kept commenting on a lack of chemistry. I'm very happy to have Noah back, but it felt like they didn't know how to make him fit in the rotation. As a result it threw off the rest of the rotation. The best chemistry I saw was during the final 5 minutes.

I agree whole heartedly. This game could go a long way for the program and a good scope of the season if played well. I'm afraid of having to rely on Antino to have to have to duplicate his performance against Nova. But he just might be up to it.

It happened in the second half before we hit our scoring drought around the 11:00 minute mark.

Zips vs. WMU 3-11-15 (MAC Tourney Rnd 2)
Big E Zip replied to UAZipster0305's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
After the last game against WMU, in stating why he was upset about the loss, David Brown stated that they are the better team. That's really stuck in my craw. I want this one badly. -
As last night's results showed, just about any team can win games regardless of standings in this league. But here's my predictions. 1st Round BG over Ball State Eastern over Miami Western over Ohio Akron over NIU 2nd Round BG over a Eastern Akron over Western Quarters Toledo over BG Can't over Akron (sorry. I just think our depleted roster will be too tired.) Semis Toledo over Central Buffalo over Can't Finals Toledo over Buffalo I see Juice Brown really coming through and leading the Rockets. That dude's a straight baller.

My gut says Toledo. But the way this year has played out I won't be shocked if any team in the top 4 wins. I'm trying to remember the last time a team outside the top 4 won. I'm pretty sure it was Akron in 2009. I guess anything is possible.

What concerns me is the inability to close games out these past three games. Earlier in the season many people on this forum were commending the team for closing out games. Rightfully so. In the games against UT and MU the Zips had the lead in the final minute. And in the UB game I think the Zips had the lead in the last 90 seconds (don't quote me on that). Obviously the common denominator for all three games is that Noah wasn't on the floor. But I don't think you can say that is the entire reason for not being able to close out those games. IMO this teams needs some leadership to come forward on the court in the remaining minutes of the game, otherwise they will have an early exit from the MAC tourney.

You are not the only person. Jake is so active and valuable in every other aspect of the game, getting on the scoring column adds to that confidence of having him in the game as we hit the home stretch. However, as previously stated the numbers our opposition has been scoring have been disconcerting. I really don't believe this team is the type that can regularly win in a shoot out. Yes, we beat Buffalo in a high scoring game. I just don't think they are built to do that every game.

I just hope BJ is ready to handle that zone D.
