  1. Miami is in 1st place in the MAC. For the one-bid leagues, he just puts the current leader in. Since Miami has such a crappy non-conference record, they are a 16 seed. If Akron or Can't won, we would probably be 13 or 14 seeds. WMU would be a 16 through 14. Yeah, point being is he doesn't even look at anything besides records. Miami is missing their 2nd best or best player in Ballard and Mavunga is playing hurt. They have ZERO chance at winning the MAC regular season or tournament. I'm that confident. He admits that he doesnt. His brackets are as if the tourney were played that day. It's his snapshot of the bracket, not a projection of where they'll be on selection sunday. Miami did just beat Can't while "missing their 2nd best or best player in Ballard and Mavunga is playing hurt". I would say that proves they have a better than ZERO chance. Anything can happen those three days in Cleveland.
  2. Sorry if this has been posted, I hadn't seen it. Found this surfing the web. Central comes in at #85 and the details say they are "Conference Rank: #2 Mid-American Conference". Miami checked in at 125 and Can't at 105. That means either Akron or Ohio will be in the Top 55 (Louisville was #56 today) and the other is out of their top 144. Not that it means much, but I found it interesting. OOC Opponents on their list Miami (Fla.) 68 Detroit 93 Oral Roberts 116 Cleveland State 132 Id assume Temple and Dayton will be on the list as well. http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/preview/2010/
  3. Dayton was DIII before they were forced to move up to D-1AA in order to keep the basketball team at D1. I don't think they were ever D1A in football.
  4. False, in basketball you must sit out a year, release or not. If a coach releases you, you are eligible for aid the year you are sitting out. If you do not get the release, you are stuck paying your own way. What he said. The release means nothing to whether or not you have to sit. Most do. It has to do with being scholarship eligible during your transfer year. There are some wrinkles related to graduation however. The Duke PG who played QB @ Syracuse got through a loophole related to the fact that he had graduated, he was eligible to play immediately as he enrolled in grad school @ Syracuse. This could apply to Jake Anderson from NIU (graduating, per some reports) and possibly Swiech if he's done at the end of the summer. I'm not sure about the specifics of this, so don't cite me as an authority .. but the Duke/Cuse guy definitely did NOT have to sit. I thought I read the NCAA closed this loophole last year. But I could be wrong.
  5. He deserves his own thread tonight. Big threes, big put backs... I can’t say enough. The more I watch this guy the more he impresses me. He'll be missed. And it doesn’t stop when he leaves the court. I was watching him be interviewed after the game. Before and after the interview, he stopped to shake hands with some OU fans congratulating / wishing him well. Maybe people he knew them from his southern Ohio days, who knows. Either way, it was a classy move.
  6. I always took another team rooting against me as "We have a heck of a lot better chance to beat them instead of you"
  7. Zeke played the best game I've seen him play. It helped that he seemed to get the ball more. I enjoy watching q big man who can block shots like that
  8. But the refs went to the monitor to review it and said it was clean... /sarcasm
  9. The game was over, so EMU had no right to repeatedly fouling the zips HARD. All you need to do is reach in if you want to intentionally foul, not grab the guy and keep pulling on him long after the whistle had blown and elbowing? That stuff was uncalled for and Humpty did nothing wrong, there was no violence! so I see no reason why he deserves to get suspended...but this is the MAC where it's average to call 60 fouls per game, so I really wouldn't be surprised...He did enough to get 2 Techs and tossed from a game. He has to play smart. Why even risk it when you have another game to play?
  10. The second tech was stupid. The game was over and he knew he was allready t'd up once. Gotta play smart. At that point emu had nothing to lose and the zips have another game.Word around the Q right now is that since he was officialy ejected for 2 tehnicals the league is looking into suspending him. Nothing official just chatter I'm hearing sitting behind press row.
  11. When I was there last, the parking was pretty easy, right by the arena. Thinking back, I don't think the students were on campus though. I wouldn't be suprised if the women's game will have better home attendance than the men's...
  12. The way I understand it, this affects their current recruiting class (2009). Unless they screw up again and lose more scholarships, which might actually happen since a few more guys are leaving the program, they'll still have all their scholarships for the 2010 class.OSU wasn't supposed to have an open scholarships next year, as no one on the team was a senior. BJ Mullins went pro and Anthony Crater transfered out. ESPN doesn't have them as signing anyone for 2009. Unless I'm missing something (entirely possible), I'd guess they'll use these two to serve the penalty.
  13. I'm guessing this directly relates to the Ronnie Thompson debacle. If I remember right, they had 3 or 4 players transfer out when Thompson took over. Then, the following season, Taylor also had a few kids leave trying to clean that mess up.
  14. Looks like Ohio St. did offer Weatherspoon...http://xavier.rivals.com/barrier_noentry.a...mp;mid=&rid
  15. I couldnt read the article above (not a member) but read somewhere that Wright was recruited to OSU by Groce. Once groce left for Ohio, he didn't feel wanted. I would think that puts OU on his short list. I also heard the same day Matta got news of Wright's de-commit, he was at Northland High School Offering Weatherspoon the open scholarship. Not sure how accurate it is, just passing it along.
  16. Dayton plays FCS (old 1-AA) football. However they, along with everyone else in their conference, do not give scholarships. If I remember right, my brother (UD Alum) told me there's an NCAA rule that if you want a Division 1 basketball team, and field a football team, it must be atleast Division 1-AA. Never bothered to look it up though. As for the topic, I think the MAC basketball will be on the upswing. Akron, Miami, OU, and even Western have some good recruiting classes coming in. If not the MAC, then (realistically) where?
  17. I think OU might slip "slightly" after losing at CMU last night.... OUCH
  18. Strong finish to the first half for the Zips. 17-4 or something like that. Brett with 15 in the first half. Wish I could have been there.
  19. wasn't a big deal?! If you dunk after the buzzer sounds when you are already winning that's unsportsmanlike.I hope he gets fouled real hard right in front of me in the north stands when OU plays in Akron.Yes, I watched the play, it was a second or two after the buzzer, not a big deal.
  20. Great win for YSU. Wonder if they will have a bit of a let down after a win against a rival like that.
  21. Did anyone actually see the play? It's on the ohiobobcat.com main page. They have a highlight video from the game Tuesday, similar to Zips Zone video. I went back and found the steal and dunk 45 seconds in. It looks like in the last few seconds, Coleman knocks the ball away from Roberts, both run after it and Coleman gets it running full speed. The buzzer sounds he took 2 steps and dunked it. It wasn't a big deal. Coleman and McFadden were emotional, it happens. For anyone who wants to see McKnight's tip in at the buzzer (the reason I watched the begining of the higlights in the first place on Wednesday), its at the 18 second mark of the video.
  22. As already stated, Akron kept coming and wouldnt give up which is a good sign for the young team. Seems as soon as Tillman got in foul trouble the Zips woke up.
  23. At the half, Ohio is up 37-26.
