You mean the MAC POY shouldnt be ranked in the top 5 in the COUNTRY in turnovers?????

I guess the thing that rubs me the wrong way about the way Hawkins went about it, was he was ripping on teams within his own conference who (arguably) had better resumes. I wouldnt mind so much if he were complaining about WMU being left out in favor of Cincinnatti (13-18 / RPI 117), Virginia (15-15 / RPI 127), Old Dominion (17-15, RPI 128) or Washington (16-16 / RPI 121).As for 08 WMU / 07 UA, its tough to argue the level of snub between two tourny's. I just dont consider them a snub when comparing them to the teams he was complaining about.2007-08 Western Michigan (20-12, 13-5)RPI: 118SOS: 217Best Wins: Southern Ill. (62) & Davidson (34)Worst Losses: Northwestern (223) & @ Eastern (237)2006-07 Akron Zips (25-7, 15-4)RPI: 66SOS: 177Best Wins: @ Can't (87) & @Oral Roberts (89)Worst Losses: @ Arkansas LR (227) & @ Illinois-Chicago (162)

I dont think so Captain. Last year, the Zips had the resume for inclusion in a Tournament. For Western's coach to complain about two teams (OU and Miami) who were ranked 40 and 50 spots ahead of him in the RPI, with much tougher SOS, and very similar records is comical to me. It's people complaining in this type situation that makes legitimate complaints sound like "whining". Just my two cents...
-
I wouldnt say Western was a "snub". Yeah they were the 2 seed, but they did play in the west, and ended up almost 40 spots lower than Ohio (50 more than Miami) in RPI. Not that RPI is the end all be all, but I just didnt see Western with a strong profile.

I was at this game, and since I didn't have a rooting interest in it, feel I can be pretty objective. Buffalo got the short end fo the majority of the calls. Buffalo pushes the lead to nine, they call a foul on a Bramos three for a 4 point play. Second half, UB pushes the lead back to 9, and get called for a couple charges. Buffalo wanted the game more. They made Miami play a full game, which is something they didnt think they had to. They will probably be tired for tongihts game with OU. If Miami plays like that again, they'll be headed home.

... they lost IN RICHMOND (semi-home game) to boot!Really don't care one way or another what happened to VCU but it hits a hot button with me ... you play a long conference schedule playing teams home and away and your dancing shoes are on the line in what often amounts to a "who's hot, let's-make-a-little-more-money" conference tournament. In the case of the MAC, if there really needs to be additional play, let the two division champs go at it and let that be the end of it. Can't stand seeing a "hot" team sneak up and snag a bid. IMHO, the regular season should be the test to determine who represents the MAC, not a "who's got the legs/breaks" in a 4-day tournament. Can of worms? Whatever ... not a fan of the tourney.I can see your point to an extent. But thats just like the big dance, unless you want to make the NCAA tourny invites for Conference champs only. It also helps gives teams with significant injuries a second chance. Get healthy, win 4 games and save your season. I personally like the tounrament, even if for no other reason than I get to watch a few more games

If MAC Tourney started today, as of 3/3
jeaglet1 replied to Marty McFly's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
With the Can't loss to BG this weekend, the MAC regular season championship could come down to the last game. Should the Zips win, it would drop Can't to the 2 seed, give Akron the 3 seed, and set up a semi-final matchup. If Can't win, it would give them the 1 and drop the zips to 4, again setting up a semi final matchup. That makes this game against OU very big. Keep Can't, Miami, and OU on the other side of the bracket... -
All of the MAC teams are in the BB. It started as a selection fo teams, but was expanded to allow more flexability in scheduling good mid majors against eachother. The MAC, along with the CAA, Horizon, MVC, etc.. have all their teams participate. Some of the smaller conferences only get a few selected.

MAC Tie-breaker procedures ==> http://mac-sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...p;ATCLID=741859A. Head-to-head competitionIn the above scenarios, (OU vs. Akron and OU vs. Can't) this would be a tie, assuming OU wins in Athens. If they dont this is all moot anyway. B. Winning percentage* vs. ranked conference teams (top to bottom, regardless of division, vs. common opponents regardless of the number of times played)So in the OU vs. Akron scenario, it would go to vs. #1 Can't, OU is 1-1 against Can't, Akron 0-1, so if Akron doesnt beat Can't, they lose the tie breaker. If they do... the second tie breaker would be vs. #2 western Michigan, OU beat them, Akron did not, so OU would win the tie breaker.OU vs. Can't is a lot tougher, they both beat WMU, if they tie, they would both have split with the Zips. OU would win the tie breaker since they would have swept miami and Can't would lsoe to them. Unless Eastern Michigan finihed higher than Miami in the standings. Either way, OU winning out and Can't losing out just isnt going to happen.*Winning percentage is used instead of record because of situation where teams do not play each other the same number of times. Therefore, a team that is 1-0 (1.000) would win the tiebreaker over a team that is 1-1 (.500).
-
I couldnt disagree more. It helps every team that has beat Can't, and those who will beat them. Can't gets a win at St. Mary's and their RPI goes up to the mid 30s (they are 39 as of this morning). So should the Zips win their re-match, it would help the Zips. Not for an at-large, but for seeding in the tourny. A win over a top 40 team could bump them up a seed line...

Let's make it easy so you don't have such a tough time saying it... GO MAC!!!

Hope everyone who makes it to the game tonight a safe trip. The FSN feed was picked up by ESPN Full Court, so it's on ESPN360 for anyone outside of the area.

Link from MAC Board...http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/showthread.p...id=3054354&VCU @ Akron 11 AM on ESPN2

This was a great game to watch. Williams is a beast inside. Makes me wonder what he'll do March 4, if Wood isnt back yet..

Most of of UB's games are available through their web site, http://www.ubathletics.buffalo.edu/multimedia/However, Buffalo plays EMU tommorrow. The women travel to Buffalo on 2/27, and the men play host to Buffalo on 3/1

Get this one from the Department of Redundancy Department Reitz vs. Wood will be a good matchup. But after Reitz and Kool, they dont have much. I did see them dismantle CMU on ESPN a week or so ago. I'll say:Zips 68WMU 71

I've heard of people using http://www.channelsurfing.net/ to find games that aren't on in their area and stream it. I've only used it once or twice, but have been told they update the links as game times approach.

Plus they have a road win @ Miami. The Zips only need to finish top 4 for a Bye. Even if you assume Can't, OU, and Western are the other 3, that just means Akron has to beat out BG (currently 1 GB) and Miami / Toledo / Central (currently 2 GB). I will be suprised if Akron doesnt finish top 4.
-
I agree, the Zips will go as far as Wood takes them. In addition to what skip says, Williams, Tillman, Reitz, even that guy for Can't would be able to dominate inside without Wood.
-
I'm confident the Zips will get a bye. It seems to me like the byes are Akron's, Western Michigan's, Can't's and OU's to lose. With Miami starting 1-4 in conference play, I feel confident they will be the 5 or 6 at best.

I always find it hard to believe that one side is always 100% responsible for everything. People talk of Q getting caught up in the moment and getting the second tech. From some friends of mine who were near the action they thought McNees foul was hard, but not flagrent and Quintence got caught up in the moment and thought it was. It was a bad moment for everyone involved, vent and let's move on...I will say this however, this is the second game in a row K.e.n.t got into it at the end of the game. Against OU on ESPN classic Saturday, they got 3 techs called on them in the last minute when Singletary kicked Tillman. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern... guess we'll see what K.e.n.t does huh?

Not suprised, but Akron GETTING ABUSED!!!
jeaglet1 replied to Zip90's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
This is the same thing that happened to OU in Akron, and people on here were calling them cry babies when they questioned the refs for it... Not you GZ, I'm just saying... Very well put. I love some good trash talking, but show some originallity. F*@k Akron, F you K.e.n.t is just stupid. My wife is an Akron alum and we were at the MAC Tourny last year for the Akron Can't game. We experienced some of that K.e.n.t "student hospitality" from "students" who snuck into our section. After I sent a letter to Laing, he did call and appologize, but I see not much has changed.Besides sint it more fun to insult someone without them knowing they're being insulted. -
In watching the replay on the DVR Singltary kocked down Tillman, and while on the ground, Tillmans hands got tangled up (hard to tell if it was intentional or not) with singletary, ad which point Singltary took a swipe at Tilman. That got him called for a foul. In looking for an explanation on the OU Board, some of the fans in attendance said after the foul call he made the thats BS hand swipe and made contact with the ref, and if thats the case he should have been ejected. And Christians T was just plain stupid. The counted the basket on the lay up, and then gave OU 2 foul shots, 4 tech foul shots and the ball haha. Anyone else and I might feel bad :)On a related note, I flipped on the game just in time (about 8 minutes to go in the second half) to hear Chones call K.e.n.t the Zips. Then later he said Akron U better make some shots or this will get away from them...
-
Watching it in person I thought he was fouled. But I agree, watching on the DVR when I got home, he anticipated contact and dials flew by without touching him. I can definetly see how he got a concussion. And I hate to see anyone get hurt... I dont care who it is.
-
The fans blew up at some calls I thought were clearly called right (i.e. the 5 second call and offensive hook, which they dont call enough in general, but thats another rant). There were some missed calls, but the refs more than made up for them in the second half (7 OU fouls vs. 1 Zip foul in the first 10 minutes I believe). The fouls for the game ended 16 called against Akron 15 against OU, hardly uneven. I saw some hand checks holds on the Zips gaurds go uncalled, and I also saw some holds on Williams/Tillman in the post go uncalled. It ended up being an evenly called game when all was said and done. They let the players play and decide the game. I agree there are times to complain about the officials, but I didnt think it was that bad last night, relativly speaking. I guess I just dont buy the "everyone in the world hates Akron and tries to screw the Zips" argument. Maybe I just dont have the Zip colored glasses on?I will say I was very disspointed in the majority of the fans in my section. I've never heard so many f-bombs dropped towards opposing fans. I think the most telling quote came from a buddy of mine from work (who is neither an Akron or OHio alum or supporter) after hearing some of the comments coming from our section... "Typical Akron fans". It's always the bad apples that spoils the bunch...
