  1. I say take that money and start up a fund for a basketball arena
  2. It's about time they start knocking down those eyesores on campus. It's nice that they have all these new buildings but it's great that they will start doing away with the ugly.
  3. Ding ding ding I solved the attendance problem.....it's all clear nowFollowing this team is downright frustrating. This is a choke job if I have ever seen one. Stop leaving the opponent in games.......sheeesh
  4. Our fans are no dummies. They know just like the rest of us that the season is defined by the MAC tournament. The rest of these games are almost exhibition games to prepare for the MAC tournament. I blame it on this garbage of a conference. Oh, and the MAC east football champ needs to win the championship game in order to be bowl eligible. What a joke....
  5. I'm gonna say this is KD's best recruiting class yet. We added size and athleticism. We also addressed many areas. This is a program going in the right direction.
  6. The zips football program looks like total crap right now in every category, on the field and in the stands. I do not see the problem continuing long term. There is a lot of Akron alumni who can care less about the zips because when they went to school Akron was a glorified community college, but that is not the case any more. We are building an alumni base that will be the foundation of future support. There are people taking pride in the school. The new stadium is another piece of the puzzle. Not to mention that Akron will in a few years have 5000 students living on campus with thousands more living in apartments next to campus right by the new stadium which is right next to the best practice facility in the MAC. If I'm an aspiring coach or recruit, I seriously need to give Akron a look. On paper, I just cannot see how we do not become a perennial MAC power. Who can really compete with all that LP is doing for us? Right now, it all comes down to finding the right guy to lead this team and take advantage of what is there. Maybe JD is that guy or maybe not.
  7. Give it a rest already. Look, Anderson is the guy and is looking very good. As a Browns fan, I would have it no other way as long as they are winning. Charlie may be the waterboy, but he made more money these last few years than you could ever hope for. I don't know what you are giddy about. The football team layed an egg this year, as did Charlie, and right now our program looks like the trash of college sports. It really sucks right now.
  8. I think that Proenza needs to look at the entire athletic department or assemble committee together to do so and figure out how athletic departments are run. He wants to make us a great academic institution, and athletics should not be excluded from this vision especially if these students are representing our school. Part of me thinks that the department needs to be overhauled as our new stadium is built. This is absolutely embarrassing. We are losing to every garbage team in this garbage of a conference. :mad_flame:
  9. Mack has been nothing special for us. The fact that he has PLENTY of unfinished business here and is already trying to find the door puts it all in perspective now. If he wants to go let him go. He is replaceable Proenza is the man. He has done more for this university and athletic program than any AD we have seen.
  10. Proenza will get it done. The University is growing, and look at all the projects pending. CSU will never come close to what we have going. There is no way they can justify making us a branch campus to a school more than twice smaller our size. I think there are many options the state can take.
  11. Changes are going to have to be made. JD needs to start realizing that he will be in hot water really fast if something is not done. Jaquemane needs to sit. Morheed as an offensive coordinator is not cutting it. Recruiting philosophy must change. The conservative playcalling must stop. I believe that we need to wait it out a year or so yet because we don't have the luxury of changing coaches on the dime like notre dame or michigan, but proenza and rhodes are not going to give jd as much time as lee owens was given. I would sure hate to open in the new stadium in a rebuilding year because this is a tremendous opportunity to slingshot our program.
  12. It's time for JD to start feeling the heat. Every time we do something great, it takes a "miracle". We are not beating any football teams. We wait for the other team to lose it. The recruiting we know needs to change. It's a joke. Where were all those athletes recruited today? His only legit receiver is an owens recruit. I just do not like the direction this program is going. Call me a But-Monkey
  13. These miracles are the worst things that can happen to us. They make us think we are better than we are. Brookhart can only hide behind his miracles for so long.
  14. :mad_flame: :mad_flame: :mad_flame: :mad_flame:
  15. Win or lose I am not happy about this game at all.
  16. Two thoughts on this game:1) I said this before and I will say it again. Doug Martin is an Idiot. He is perfect for Can't State. YSU and Akron earned a lot of respect by playing Ohio State head on. Can't once again looks bush league.2) Maybe Tressel needs to put some more meat into his nonconference schedule if he wants to see his team to play football games rather than run a circus.
  17. As long as they bring their basketball team with them
  18. I agree with ZipWatcher. We should not put the weight entirely on KD's shoulders if we want to build a first class hoops program. In my opinion, getting to the tournament every year is an unreasonable expectation given the conference we play in. Unless we were to do that, we will never see a full house at the JAR. Play a nice shiny arena downtown and all of a sudden you have a venue smack in the middle of downtown Akron with all the bars and restaurants. Not to mention the gameday experience for the fans is improved (yes, I hate some of the views in the JAR). Recruiting would skyrocket. This is an advantage that very few schools in the MAC have, and that is the ability to establish partnerships with the city and large companies. A new football stadium, a new arena, brand new practice facilities, we're talkin a new soccer stadium even, etc...... That is unheard of in this conference. I say exploit this as much as possible.
  19. I am a little disappointed with some of JD's tendencies thus far, but let's be fair to him right now. We have played a brutal schedule thus far, and beating big teams with the resources we have is a tall task. However, I expect to see results as we move into mac play. These schools, unlike most of the opponents we have seen so far, deal with the same issues we do, and that is where we need to see what happens. We beat one of the favorites already so there is no excuse why we should not be in the mac east race.
  20. This is how I see it. Akron is more than twice the size of CSU. We have more students, and have 15 dorms to their two. There is no way they can make us a branch campus to a glorified tri-c. If anything, I think they would give CSU the medical school and a majority of the graduate studies while we would keep the undergrad stuff.
  21. Thank goodness we have Keith Dambrot
  22. I could care less if Can't dropped their football program. That just means less division I-A football teams in Ohio to compete with for support and resources. The worse they do the better.
  23. Go buckeyes.....I hope they kick the snot out of that cocky Can't team.
  24. Doug Martin is an idiot........JD should be fired if he ever loses again to this guy
  25. If you were not at the game and are just looking at attendance figures then you will not get it. Akron football games rarely have that collegiate feel, but this one did from tailgate to the end of the game. Seeing students standing the whole game and waving thundersticks, zippy crowdsurfing, the beach balls, the signs, the chants etc. It was a good time, and I woulds rather have a stadium of 20k rowdy fans than 35k of fans who sit on their hands. I will say that the Can't contingent was pretty small. For a team that beat a bcs school and expecting to win the east, I was expecting more. I remember 2003 when the entire away side was Can't state. As bad as our fan support can be, they have it even worse.
