  1. I still don't understand how UofA was directly harmed. How much UofA money did they take?
  2. He turned a runt of a running back, Brett Biggs, into one of the most impactful players (at least for one season) in Zips history. I just don't know what contact with football JD has had since leaving Akron. Maybe someone could help me out with that. The game has changed a lot since then.
  3. I love beating Kent. That school is a blight on the Ohio public university system. I really mean that too.
  4. Offer incentives. One hour at the hooker hotel with a top 20 hooker on Howard Street for any player who scores 20 points.
  5. 50 percent never play again.
  6. The road has been a tough place for good college basketball teams this season.
  7. The screens aren't showing off. The tequila bars, wine stands where you can buy an entire bottle of wine and take it to your seat, and a champagne room for high dollar donors is the showing off part.
  8. I'm at the Texas vs Kansas State game. Worried about Zips attendance? Texas has its entire upper deck covered with screens they project images upon.
  9. They would be better off instructing the athletes on how to live like a college student and save what little they get for life after college.
  10. If I'm still working at 70, everyone has permission to put a bullet in my head.
  11. I'm probably in the minority, but I am one of the people who likes the parity. I do like college football and I still like going to games even though the average length of games is starting to become intolerable.
  12. I think mediocrity is the new excellence. In my opinion teams aren't as dominant because of a lack of cohesion within programs as a result of the transfer portal. I'm not sure the mid tier teams are getting better guys than 20 years ago. Years ago, mid tier programs like Wake Forest had Chris Paul and Tim Duncan playing for them. Now their guard is a Central Michigan transfer in Boopie Miller and their center is a Gonzaga transfer Efton Reid. They have traded Hall of Fame players for guys who you scratch your head when you hear their name. College sports will become generally less popular as dominant teams/players go away and they are replaced by more average players/teams. Average is not excellence. People like excellence because it's predictable. It gives us something to love or hate. I'm not even certain making college sports less popular is something that can change even as we turn the country into a bunch of gambling degenerates. An example would be the NBA of the 1970s. It was full of parity and was unpopular. Magic and Bird hit the NBA in the 1980s and for ten years, one or both was in the NBA finals. It's popularity grew a great deal.
  13. https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll Kansas is ranked #6. They are in 5th place in the Big 12. Are any voters paying attention?
  14. I have a question. Last night I noticed Duke, a team I haven't watched 10 minutes of all season, was ranked #9 and all I could think after watching them for two hours was, they are the worst Top 10 Duke team I've ever seen. Question: Is college basketball really this watered down at the top?
  15. I'm glad you use quotation marks for demotion. I don't see it as a demotion even though some may see it as such. I see it more as a rationalization. It is true the P5 schools will get more money from TV. It is also true TV networks need to fill game slots, unless they just extend games to five hours.... I wouldn't put that out of the world of reality. Anyhow it's critical for G5 schools to come together and create their own division with a commissioner for football. The numbers will give them leverage to negotiate TV and games against P5 schools. For example, instead of playing three games for three million dollars, the G5 schools could get one game for four million dollars. The P5 schools can and will pay the extra money because they will be raking it in.
  16. The transfers look the part. The incoming high school players look on the smallish side.
  17. CMU couldn't even hold on to a very average at best Boopie Miller.
  18. You're on the money. Until yesterday, my expectation for the Zips was to win the MAC, and I still believe that will happen. It was also to win an NCAA game. After what I saw yesterday, my expectation for the NCAA may be out of reach. JMU struck me as a team with the physicality and mentality to win an NCAA tournament game. Yesterday I watched Hunter Sallis (Gonzaga transfer) single handedly keep Wake Forest's NCAA hopes alive scoring 33 against NCST. Without him, they are on a one way track to the NIT. I didn't see a single Zip take charge of the game. Do they have a Wally Szczerbiak? I'm old enough to remember him going off for Miami and playing great in March Madness. The MAC has had other good examples with other teams. Akron has some solid players, but no Wally Szczerbiaks. We just don't have a guy with that type of killer instinct.
  19. That would be 57% of the arena. My observations are they are getting less than 50% for most weekend games and all weeknight games. The games are fun to go to, but we all know how overinflated NCAA attendance reporting is.
  20. Wait until they go 3-5 in their final 8 games.
  21. I went to the Wake Forest vs NC State game yesterday. For the record, I paid $20 for parking to watch two teams that will not make March Madness. The arena was only 80 percent full for an afternoon start.
  22. Thanks, but UofA has moved on.
  23. Disappointing loss in the way they lost. I thought they had more in them. Need to physically toughen up if they want to win an NCAA game.
  24. Respectfully, you're grasping for straws. His recent success isn't very successful. He hasn't been successfully since Oregon. Right about now is a good time to admit getting hired because of the good old boy network isn't a good reason to hire someone. Ryan Day is finished at OSU. There is no energy in the program and a 60 year old isn't going to bring any energy. In fact he is probably coming because being OC is a pretty easy job compared to HC, and the money. Day is a smart guy and a great coordinator. That's about the extent.
