  1. https://miamiredhawks.com/sports/football/roster This is a roster of one of the top 3 teams in the MAC. They just became eligible for a bowl 7 games into the season. They made a bowl for the 8th time in 9 years. They have some.local players.but don't rely on them. They aren't doing well because they recruit locally. The are doing well because they recruit good players who fit their system.
  2. Define "everyone" please.
  3. The oline is a huge problem. Yesterday, CMU brought a lot of pressure and they couldn't execute on a basic play like a screen pass to back off the pressure some. The team is currently swamped in failure. They should have 3 more wins and don't. I don't know how they solve their current problems and actually win games. I don't mean score a TD or two more a game, rush for more yards or complete a few more passes, but actually win.
  4. Akron only possessed the ball for 22 minutes and only ran 53 plays. 53 plays per game is something you would not see even in stat lines from the 1960s.
  5. Don't know what a fanboy is, but I think he's our best shot at resurrecting the program. Akron is in a position where the president, AD and head coach are all in alignment. This is typically a winning situation. Akron should have 3 more wins this season and the failures fall on the shoulders of some of the players, and veterans as well. At least Joe put the team in a position to win. He can't kick or throw the ball. My biggest complaint about him is what looks like a failure to have "his guy" on the field playing QB. Maybe the combination doesn't stop at the head coach, but looks something like this President -AD-Coach-QB.
  6. If Akron doesn't win at least 5 games next year, the JoeMo years will begin to crumble. They will lose players and not be able to replace them. They will also begin to lose critical coaches and not fill the spots with anyone as good. Programs foundations are built on more than players. If Wasel was Joe's guy, he should have started the season. Redshirting is an antiquated concept in 2023. I've never seen him play, but he couldn't beat out the 3 bums we have started this year? It's concerning. The Bullock disaster is a good learning lesson for fans. Just because a player transfers from a school you have heard of and was once good, that doesn't mean the player is good. There are lots of failed scholarship players at big schools. The schools the transfer portal benefits the most are the P5 schools, especially the elite programs. It's a place they can dump their trash and replace with a better opportunity. Every once in a while, someone finds something really valuable at the landfill. We have to be smart about what we bring home from the landfill.
  7. U is the best of bad choices.
  8. He needs to find out quickly if Bullock can play at the D1 level or not. I think the answer is no. I also understand he washed outta VA Tech, please correct me if I'm wrong. Tech is a horrible program right now. If he couldn't get on the field, what made the staff think he could succeed at a high level in the MAC? Akron doesn't have an eternity waiting for someone to develop. There is not a guy on the current roster capable of getting Akron to where it needs to be next year. By that I mean 6 wins minimum. Finding a quality starting QB in the transfer portal must be the #1 priority of the coaching staff this off season.
  9. You said they may be the best team in the league. Based on head to head competition, that's not true.
  10. What's your point?
  11. You deserve what you get in life. Akron played well enough to have a much better record but hasn't done enough to deserve more wins.
  12. Why am I never surprised when an Akron fan makes a snide remark about the only MAC Championship? It's such a losing mindset.
  13. If they are the best team, why didn't they beat Toledo? Don't the best teams win?
  14. I was somewhere watching a bunch of games at once. The USC vs Florida and Washington vs Oregon games were on. If you were a fan of USC or Oregon now, you would be extremely disappointed, but you couldn't say your entire team didn't play competently and gave it their all in two great college football games. The Akron vs CMU game was a game of two incompetents who generally tried hard in a bad football game. That was just trash. Can we really no field a team that can win in this trash league?
  15. Catch an easy pass and it's 2nd and 5. Instead, strip fumble and unachievable down and distances. It's the little things that get drives going. Can't drop easy passes.
  16. Akron needs to complete some first down passes. Running on first isn't working. Running on second and third can work if the down and distance is more manageable. This is just bad football.
  17. Bingo. Nobody else is going to be better. Akron needs to make 10 work out in the second half.
  18. I'm following a lot of games. While it's true I haven't seen every game I'd have to say Akron has the worst QB of all the games I've seen. How did we start the season with 3 QBs this incapable?
  19. He only had winning seasons 2 of 6 years at OU and only once finished higher than 3rd in his division. He was Lee Owens before Lee Owens. After OU he goes to Wake, has one great season, then underperforms while completely mismanaging the Riley Skinner years. He didn't make a bowl Skinners senior season because he became obsessed with running the fullback into the line for 1 yard gains. Then the program collapsed. The magic of Jim Grobe is only apparent to those who didn't watch almost every game from Skinners sophomore year on. Anyone really paying attention knows better. The AD at Wake knew better and encouraged him to retire after he wanted to bring back the program killing triple option. He only had a winning record 5 of 12 seasons. Grobe became fools gold and every AD in America knew it after his Wake days.
  20. Indeed. My worry is after two recruiting seasons he doesn't have his guy starting. Wolford wasn't very good his first two years at Wake, but come hell or high water he was Clawsons guy. We don't have time to develop a fresh starting next year because Joe is two years in. The program can't wait that long to get off its back for a variety of reasons. He has to get some experience out of the TP.
  21. "Questionable decisions"? I'd say disastrous decisions. If Akron won 7 games this year, it would be well exceeding expectations. That's the problem with Akron. The decision becomes between Faust and Owens, or Owens vs Brookhart. These are debates the idiots on ESPN have on TV between 8AM and, well..., the rest of the day. The failure of Akron has much less to do with coaches and more to do with University leadership up to the Board of Trustees. If Clawson wasn't having the success he is having at Wake Forest, I'm sure there would be a lot of idiotic fans debating Grobe vs Clawson, even though Grobe has only 5 winning seasons in 12 years. That's the Faust vs Owens or whatever debate. It's just people trying to be right about something not worth being right about. Throw in the Dennison vs Faust debate. A contractor once told me, "Being right is the boobie prize". Whoever wins the Faust vs Owens debate will be right. Either way everything blows up in your face.
  22. I can't imagine going through the misery of fall camp and being half way through the year and still not having an FBS win yet. I'd like to think this team has had enough losing, but everyone finds their comfort zone. Some teams are just comfortable losing.
  23. I'd take a young version of Dave Clawson. He's a perfect fit for Wake. We need a perfect fit for Akron. I think we may have him, but next season will inform better. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Clawson
  24. Didn't he just win his division in 12, 15, and 17? I'll give him 22. I'm still missing the greatness of the guy. Didn't see it at Akron and I'm bored and unimpressed with anything anyone does in D2 football.
  25. Dennison did make a playoff. He was a solid D2 and IAA coach, but not the guy to move it forward. He never won a conference title at Akron. There is this odd Dennison vs Faust debate in Akron. The real answer probably was, neither. The real answer to the key question was "no". The question was, "Is there anything about the Akron program that could make it a legitimate D1 program in the next 5-8 years." But, here we are and there's no going back. I missed the greatness of Owens. Never once did he put a complete team together. Never once did he win the division let alone the MAC. He bumbled around Ashland for a long time and never won his conference there either. The guy was just a nothing. I played at the beginning of the Faust years. Dennison didn't leave behind a stable of D1 players. There were a couple of good players, but not the 30-40 it takes to have a really good team.
