  1. After a timeout.
  2. No
  3. Getsy coached a Hall of Fame in Green Bay. Now he has to coach a Hall of Shamer in Chicago.
  4. I swear, this is fantastic abuse. Games like this should be played at noon so the teams can get in and out quickly, and the fans can go on with their day. If you are going to legally steal from your fans, at least do it in broad daylight.
  5. How about some touchdowns? You know, something to cheer for....
  6. Can't disagree. I would only add that both coaches had "their guys" at QB when they went bowling. Luke came with JD from Pitt and I'm pretty certain Bowden had his by 2015. He had to have because he started in 2012. Joe still doesn't have "his guy". I'm not overly concerned about this , but I am a little concerned and it brings me to some questions. Is what we have really the best we have? If someone younger is on the team with better long term potential, why isn't he starting at this point? When Dave Clawson got to Wake Forest, he recruited and started as a freshman future LA Rams back-up John Wolford. He got killed his freshman and sophomore seasons and went 3-9 both seasons. Bowl seasons junior and senior seasons though. Something clicked. Nothing is even coming close to clicking right now for Akron. Joe needs "his guy" QB and he needs to live and die with him. He needs to identify this player, make a clear decision and see it through as quickly as possible. If this guy is on the team, play him. If not, find one this off season and show every guy in the QB room currently on the team the URL for the transfer portal. Are there examples for this working at schools that were struggling, yes. I just noted Wolford, and Sanders is doing pretty good at Colorado with "his guy". Joe needs to do the same thing.
  7. Maybe in 1995, but not in 2023.
  8. I do as well. This is a good team.
  9. FG was a good effort considering bad snap.
  10. Very good read and instructive for some, I hope. Some want Akron to run more. The type of offense they play has a run in it every time they line up. The defense dictates run or pass, not the offense. Running for the sake of running will fail when the defense is lined up to stop it. I suffered through the last years of Jim Grobe at Wake Forest and saw first hand how this running for the sake of running fails. The rest of the world moved to RPO and Grobe was still blasting the fullback into the line for one yard gains. It was insanity. They brought in an RPO coach, which attracted better QBs/WRs and have now won the second most games in the ACC since 2018 after a choppy start for Clawson. The Zips have a great offensive scheme. The problem is execution. If Akron can get the passing game in a better place by completing passes short, medium and long, the running game will open. If not, well......
  11. If these two are our best options, and they are, 5 wins is not a realistic expectation. Irons simply doesn't win games and U is a turnover machine that will cause losing when the competition level increases. QB play is more important than ever. Good QB play is central to winning in 2023. I don't care if that QB is on the team for next year or a transfer to be named later, but Akron can never win with the current quality of QB on the field.
  12. Anyone who watched them play week 1.
  13. 100% true. It can be done, but the coaches have to have NFL experience. There is approximately 50% turnover per year in NFL rosters. NFL coaches simply aren't interested in coaching in college, let alone MAC levels. Sanders manages his team like an NFL GM. He's the most interesting thing to happen to college football in many years. I want to dislike him, but the more I try, the more like him. He's a very good coach and if you don't think so, you haven't watched Colorado play.
  14. I didn't see much of the game because I was at a wedding, but what I would like to see out of the Zips QBs moving forward is to be less pensive with their throws. I don't know if it's confidence or whatever, but they need to let the ball fly. They a D1 college quarterbacks and I'm sure have plenty of arm strength or they wouldn't be there in the first place. Use that arm strength.
  15. In 2017 I watched Wake Forest, with future LA Rams back up John Wolford, eek out a one point win at App State. They played terrible and deserved to lose. They had to block a couple of field goals, with the second one being the last play of the game. After that, they settled into a solid season and beat Texas A & M something like 55-52 in regular time in the Belk Bowl. It propelled the program forward. If there are terrible wins, the Zips got one yesterday. They need to take it and move on. The talent is there to be successful in the MAC. They just need to play better and get the program moving forward. Everything they probably want to accomplish is still in front of them for the taking.
  16. Disgraceful.
  17. A horrible loss in my book, but I still see brighter days ahead.
  18. I get your points, but USC and OR St are the wilderness of college football. The point is, just because someone is good doesn't mean there isn't someone better.
  19. In 2023, redshirting is an antiquated idea. It has been for over a decade now. Player attrition, voluntarily or involuntary, needs to made up by ready to play freshmen. QBs, and most others skill players, come to college better prepared than ever. Some even graduate HS early in order to participate in spring practice. If the second best QB is a freshman, than that's the spot you put him.
  20. Bingo. Worse, he's a Senior. Clemson didn't wait around for DJ Uiagalelei to improve and Oklahoma didn't wait for Spencer Rattler to improve. Those two are now in the wilderness of college football where they belong. If Irons is our best chance to win, then he needs to get better NOW. If there is someone who gives an equal shot at winning but may lack experience, then it's time for a change. The Zips have some good players who deserve a fighting chance to win. We aren't watching the crap Ianello and Arth put on the field. These guys can win some games.
  21. If you subtract the 10 yard pass and 67 yard run by Lorenzo, they had 161 yards in the first half. They easily left 100 first half yards on the table. By 2023 college football standards, the offense was just bad yesterday. When a team can't complete passes down field, it allows defenses to choke off the running and short/intermediate passing game. In 2023, a team has to be able to complete down field passes consistently in order to win. It's all very simple. What makes the loss so distasteful for me is this team is so much better in almost every category. They look like a good MAC team. Certainly they are good enough to beat the likes of Temple and they didn't. I think I have to go back to just commenting on general college football topics because this black hole of a football program is exhausting.
  22. He's not a winner.
  23. Is that good company?
  24. I'm too lazy to do it, but could someone please find out how many D1 teams don't score a point in the second half of games this week and report back.
  25. I'm ok with him sticking with him this week, but not next week.
