ZachTheZip
The game is on Saturday. It's the team't last chance to show that they are ready to compete in the MAC.URI Message BoardI think we'll compete well. It will be a close game either way, and I'm hoping for the win. Let'sGoZips94
Reading that thread, their fans don't sound to confident about this game. I think that can work to our advantage. Maybe more people won't show up. We'll just have to wait and see. I predict a win, super close though.
MDZip
Looking at that message board, I'm pretty impressed with the depth of knowledge displayed. Seems like they know us pretty well and it seems like they have about the same opinion of their team that we do about ours. Ought to be a pretty good game. RowdyZip
I'm gonna offer up a prediction in this one, even though I usually don't anymore. I've dissected the roster a bit, and it appears that URI has the size to give us fits (already a poor rebounding team) on the boards. That, in combination with a Rhode Island team ranked 11th in the nation in FG percentage will lead to a double-digit loss. Here's hoping I'm wrong, and that Bardo, Nate, and the McKnights each pull down double digit boards.Akron 71URI
Charlotte_49
Rhode Island is a little down this year, so I think Akron has a decent shot at winning if they put up a good fight. Still, Rhode Island is a strong team. They lead #5 Duke at the half a few weeks ago. Last year they were ranked for a little bit. Not a bad squad.I hope I'm wrong, but my guess...77-66 URI

Dave in Green
Looking at RI's results to date (see below), they've played a tougher overall schedule than the Zips and have looked good against some major teams. It will take the Zips best game of the year to win this one.Brown 76-74 (W)@Duke 79-82 (L)@Monmouth 85-62 (W)VCU 92-86 (W)Hartford 94-72 (W)@Penn St. 77-72 (W)Villanova 65-78 (L)@Northeastern 85-72 (W)@Providence 65-66 (L)New Hampshire 88-56 (W)C. I knew URI would be tough, but this was pretty bad. Oh well, the MAC sucks so let's hope we can suck the least!
K-Roo
Spanked...Rhode Island beat Akron 79-50Preview | Box Score | Recap| Rhode Island 42 minutes ago KINGSTON, R.I. (AP)—Delroy James and Keith Cothran scored 16 points and added five assists apiece to lead Rhode Island to a 79-50 victory over Akron on Saturday.Jimmy Baron chipped in with 14 points and four assists to help Rhode Island (10-4) extend its home win streak to 13 against non-conference opponents.Akron (8-5) played tough defense in stretches, but the Rhode Island offense was too explosive, riding an 18-7 first-half run to an 11-point lead at the break.Akron closed to within six points in the second half, but James re-entered the game at the 18-minute mark and sparked Rhode Island to a 13-0 run.Jimmy Conyers led Akron with eight points and 10 rebounds. Nate Linhart, Darryl Roberts and Brett McKnight added seven points apiece.Rhode Island played strong defense, holding Akron to 35 percent (21-for-60) from the floor and forcing 16 turnovers. ZZZips
Just plain ugly. Fortunately only 6 Zip's fans were in attendance. Destroy the game tapes and forget it. Regroup and get ready for Miami.
Dave in Green
The stats are scary bad. Conyers once again played a good game. But when his 8 points are the best any Zip can do, you know things are just awful. Conyers deserves all the credit in the world for shooting 4 of 8 from the field, leading the team with 10 rebounds and tying for most assists with 3. He also played the most minutes, 32. Bardo had an offensive explosion, hitting 3 of 5 from the field. And B McKnight was 3 of 6. Beyond that, it was pretty sad -- 21 of 60 for the team.Even with Conyers getting 10 rebounds, the rest of the team got only 18, and the Zips were outrebounded 40-28. The free throw situation was laughable -- 2 of 4. Not for any one player, but for the whole team! And 16 turnovers on top of all that. I'm not sure I want to know any more details about this game. Not even North Carolina w/ a healthy Tyler H. Maybe KD needs to start kickin' this team's ass a little bit?
