I know a few posters expressed their concern about KD's decision. Not to persuade your vote, but here is a quote from KD:"I've been telling you all along that McClanahan is a weapon for us, I'm just glad we de-redshirted him."Feel free to explain your vote. Here are his stats if you need help. He is averaging 11.6 mins, 3.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 5 games thus far.UOJLYVAYSPHLQNX.20081104161813.jpgCareer high 9 points last night

I know he started off cold in his 1st few games, but it was just a matter of time until the Nitro Net Nuker exploded on the scene. In his post-game inteview last night, Roberts seemed to agree with Dunn when they discussed the merits of having a 4 guard rotation. Of course, I'm sure every one of them wants plenty of PT.

I commented on this initially in the post-game thread, but will elaborate here...As I said initially....I hated to see him in there for less than a 1/2 year, and get thrown into the middle of the conference race. He's struggled. But hopefully hitting 3 of 5 on his 3s last night is something that he can build upon, and will help him gain some confidence. But as much as I didn't like the situation....we couldn't go through the entire season with only 3 guards either. And speaking of the reason why this all happened to being with......I thought someone mentioned that Ronnie would play again vs. YSU? Wasn't this initially reported as a condition that was only going to keep him out for a month? Is there more we don't know about? Did someone have a really bad feeling about Ronnie's long-term prognosis when they decided to bring in McClanahan? And an even more interesting question might be....if Ronnie returns healthy this year, is someone going to sit?...or are we going to start rotating 5 guards? And we still have one more very successful high school guard who will get into the mix next year after his redshirt. hmmmm.(Ok...my wife comments all the time about how I live, eat, and breathe Zips Sports....I better get out of here for the rest of the day and get some work done)

When you're struggling on offense and you think you have a bona fide offensive weapon sitting on your bench, what would you do? I'm ready to give KD plenty of leeway based on his track record and what he's done for this program. If he thinks it's the right thing to do, I'm all for it, the results are looking fairly promising. After all, his job depends on it, mine doesn't.

I believe the original prognosis on Steward was that he would be out at least a month. The comment someone made on Steward coming back against YSU was very questionable after the team had said there was no timetable for his return. If McClanahan turns out to be a fast learner, he will be just fine by the time the MAC tournament comes around. If he's a slow learner, then this will give him a head start on next year.In any case, activating McClanahan at mid-season is a contigency plan. By definition, a contingency plan is not as optimal as the original plan. But it should be the best available option given all the circumstances. I'd say this team has demonstrated that it could greatly benefit from the addition of a high-percentage 3-point shooter. I think this move offers the best opportunity for the Zips to win the MAC this year.

i had heard personally from Ronnie that he would be back by "YSU or at least this week".

This poll almost got me to start my own poll. When I voted the system informed me that there were a total of 24 votes: 11 yes, 2 no, and 2 I'm not sure. My poll question would be: Do you think the number of votes in each category of a poll should sum to the total number of votes? with possible answers of yes, no, and I'm not sure.

I think it was a good move if he continues to see minutes. If he just ends up being a guy who sees very few minutes per game down the stretch then I would rather have had him an additional year when he could have more chance to contribute in a big way.Right now it is a good thing but the jury is still out overall for me.

You couldn't ask for a better source than that, and you have to like such a positive attitude. But I doubt he would be back for a game before he works himself back into shape. Is he even practicing with the team yet? Last time I saw him at a home game he was still not even in uniform.

Unless were both missing something, you're right, it doesn't add up. This stuff reminds me way to much of my Chem2 lecture. Everyone puts a numerical answer they found into their electronic keypad and the professor shows the results on the screen(in the form of a pie graph).Just about every time we do it, someone puts the number to the UA police department. The whole lecture hall gets a good laugh outta that.

Skip, I went back and checked some of the info the public has been given on Steward. On Dec. 2, ohio.com reported that Steward would be "out about a month with a medical condition known as compartment syndrome." (I thought I remembered hearing "at least" a month, but on ohio.com it said "about" a month.)On Dec. 18, Tom Gaffney reported on ohio.com that "Steward is on schedule to return to the lineup in early January. Steward, a redshirt freshman and a key reserve, had a condition know as compartment syndrome. He had surgery on his lower right leg Dec. 1 and had the staples removed last Saturday. He was in uniform for practice this week but shot on the side and did not participate in drills." On Jan. 5, usatoday.com reported in Zips team notes that "The Zips expect to have redshirt freshman PG Ronnie Steward (compartment syndrome) back for Miami." On Jan. 12, Tom Gaffney reported on ohio.com that "Guard Ronnie Steward, who had surgery on his right leg for compartment syndrome, is still out, and no timetable has been set for his return."On Jan. 26, usatoday.com reported in Zips team notes that "Steward (compartment syndrome) still is listed "Out Indefinitely" in the press notes. He had surgery on Dec. 1 and was expected to return by mid-January."So we can see that the original prognosis appeared to be on track until about 6 weeks after the surgery, when "about a month" became "no timetable" and then 2 weeks later became "out indefinitely."On Jan. 17, in between those last two Steward updates, ohio.com reported that "Coach Keith Dambrot announced before the Zips played Bowling Green that he has taken the redshirt off Brett McClanahan."So there's a real logical progression to all of this.

Excellent work Dave. According to your timeline, it sure looks likes as the situation progressed from just "no timetable for his return" to "out indefinitely"...they decided to make the move. And now we're getting news of a possible medical redshirt. Playing with 3 guards from December all the way to March would have been really tough. I feel bad for the kid. Not just because of this year, but also because I believe that he could have provided the missing piece that could have put us over the top last year.

You would think that would be a reliable source but then again he could be just EXTREMELY optimistic about it. Honestly, who knows what the heck is going on here. We sure could use him though.
