Butler has a bulldog, can we get a real kangaroo?

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd throw this out there. If butler can have a real bulldog and a fake bulldog for mascots, can we have a real Zippy and a fake Zippy for mascots? That'd be so intimidating. I mean Texas has the bull, so we should get a real kangaroo. :D

Kangaroos are too dangerous. I always thought it might be cool to have a Zoo-type habitat somewhere on campus with real kangaroos in it. I mean in Tampa Bay they have a live devil ray aquarium. We could just do the same...have the akron zoo take care of it.

Kangaroos are too dangerous.

Not suggesting we need one, but more dangerous than a live Longhorn Steer (Texas), Buffalo (Colorado) or Tiger (LSU)? If there was a real call for it, it could be done.

The local 9900, American Federation of Mascots, may have a problem with this. Akron is a union town and all. I think zippy would have a valid grievance.

This was done....something like 15-20 years ago.

My memory tells that there was a contest to name it, and it was introduced at a football game. But, I don't remember ever seeing it again, or what happened after that.

I recall that too. It was a Wallaby, not a Kangaroo.

I think it died. You can find it in the biology lab now.

well they hop and stuff. It seems like it would be hard to keep them tame. I also think they are a lot faster than those animals. So it would just jump over any fence we had and make a run for it. And I think it would be impossible to put it on a leash

Captain.....Actually, if I remember correctly, the winning name for it was also "Wallaby". Was anyone working in the athletic dept. at the time who could remember more of the details? I don't recall ever hearing anything about it ever again.

We should use the team shop at the Info as a zoo for the kangaroo

It could be a Zoo of MAC mascots. We could have a kangaroo, bull, bobcat (Or a large housecat), an eagle/hawk (paint one half orange&brown, the other Blue & maze, the ass red, and the turds green), and a sled dog. The remainder of the animals can be found living free in the general vicinity campus. The zoo keeper can dress as a Chippewa. It would be like the ESPN commercials.

Not bad but the turds should be painted blue and yellow instead of green.

Butler has a nice arena and athletic department with some focus on hoops. I'd prefer UA go after those first.

Expenditure-wise, we're probably already pretty close to Butler?

According to Department of Education figures, Butler spent $75,045 on recruiting last year, while Duke spent $769,474. Overall, Butler spent $347,168 on its basketball program, while Duke spent more than $5 million -- or $368,354 per player.

On an unrelated side note - I wonder if mid-major coaches are happy that Butler has proven a mid-major can make it to the Finals...or pissed because all mid-major fans are going to hold them to a higher standard?

Should mid major fans hold their schools to a higher standard? Yes. Now the only question is, What is the standard? I think the Zips can do better than what they did this season. I hate to define it because there are so many variables that go into a good program, but I'll know it when I see it.

What Butler has done is what makes it so difficult to have their success as a mid major. Butler has done everything PERFECT. It's hard to be perfect. If you are Duke, you don't have to be perfect. A mistake here or ther and you still have a thriving program. A couple of mistakes at a mid major and problems can become crushing.

There is a old Russian saying: "Perfection is the enemy of just good enough." Are the Zips stuck in a situation where they win 20 games a year, do well in the MAC and get into a post season tournament so few people get overly upset? It isn't until you see perfection that you realized just good enough may not be good enough.

All I can say is shortly after it disappeared everyone who ate the chili at the student union had a little extra bounce in their step. :thumb:

People rag on you too much. Very well thought out. + 100 Board Posting Experience points.

You're leveling up

This is completely ridiculous...no dentist has ever performed surgery on an eagle to give it teeth before so the zoo can not be accurate. :D

yeah and you would need to fit in a goofy rocket man in there too, for Toledo.
