Blue & Gold
Big East rumblings Villanova must still be mulling over their standing offer to upgrade to FCS. UCF and TCU seem to be the favorites. TCU is quite the goofy fit for the Big East. Seems the Big East is really struggling/scrambling right now. ZachTheZip
The Big East meetings have taken place. They will expand to 10 football teams, per ESPN's Stuart Mandel. Look for them to bring up Villanova and then add an outside team like TCU. This gives them 10 football teams and 17 basketball teams. ZachTheZip
It's officially on the Big East website now. Also, the comissioner said in a press conference that they have the invitations ready to send out. They knew who they wanted and are now ready to go after them. akzipper
Man our football team really killed our chances of ever moving up. So sad that terrible schools like UCF and Houston can move up instead of us....
Zipmeister
Man our football team really killed our chances of ever moving up. So sad that terrible schools like UCF and Houston can move up instead of us.... Blame it on the Big East for setting the selection bar at "terrible." If they had just set it at "abysmal" we would still be in the running. Heard that the SWAC is thinking of extending us an offer.
RowdyZip
I love our Zips, but our programs are nowhere near ready to "move up". it's a shame because this shakeup could be an epic one over the next couple years that will make it nearly impossible for schools to escape "MAC" level conferences. The other thing holding us back is our friends down the road in Cbus. Akron struggles for it's own identity even among it's own citizens. Don't think everyone else is blind to the fact that you can purchase a Buckeyes hat, shirt, slippers, jacket, etc at your local Target around here but would be hard pressed to find a Zips Tshirt. This will take YEARS to change, if ever.

They lived in OSwho's shadow but still managed to move up, and only because of their basketball team. I'm not sure, but I don't think their football team was ever anything spectacular. But a big conference would never accept a winless MAC team...that is a fact. Sad though because we have more potential than any other mid-major program in the country. MDZip
Update via Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated. Looks like he thinks the Big East will be taking UCF and TCU, but One other possibility is Temple re-joining the conference, but I can't imagine that's high on the wish list. Probably not, but they certainly have put themselves in position for it. The only way I could see this happening is if Villanova doesn't want to make the investment and turns the BE down. I've been to Villanova and they do not have a very nice stadium. Maybe we could sell them ours?

Recruiting would obviously improve, moving up to a BCS conference. Don't get me wrong, we have 0% of moving to the BE.

"Recruiting would obviously improve" & we'd quickly pass the "get demolished" point. The Big East ain't the SEC. Cinci is a good case in point...the BE has obviously helped them. ZachTheZip
Latest word is that Villanova will only accept if the Big East promises to not invite Temple for at least 20 years. Basically means the MAC has complete control in the Temple situation. They were only holding out for an invite to the Big East, and with out that, they lose a lot of leverage when it comes to remaining football-only. GP1
Basically means the MAC has complete control in the Temple situation. If the ACC decided to expand, Temple would be a logical choice. The BE should tell Nova to take the deal or leave it. Where else are they going to go?

Big Zip
For all who continually say we aren't worthy of a move to another division...who would want us etc. We continue to see other schools come from lower ranks into better conferences than ours so I'm not sure I'm buying that we aren't a candidate for a better conference. I completely agree. The facilities and overall direction of the university must have garnered us some attention already even if just in casual conversation among other league administrators and presidents. We are at least on the radar although I don't see us going anywhere for 5-10 years.

Hope you're not talking about the WAC. Lots of talk from Hawaii football season ticket holders that they are bailing if UH football doesn't move. I expect a move to independent in football and Big West for all other sports. Probably announced sometime next year -- while they beg the Mountain West to take them aboard. Z.I.P.
Well, my rock is falling into place. Hawaii will be joining the Mountain West. But, for football only. (???) Big West for all other sports. Go figgah.

Big West for all other sports. Go figgah. GREAT move for Hawai'i !!! Just goes to show that football is driving the boat in the MWC. That said, i look at us as bing in more of a Cincy situation. We've got a decent basketball program (sans the nat ranking but also parole violations) but a sub-par football program. Other major differences, we have an incredible soccer team/facility, with an unparalelled fan base, and a great football infrastructure. Yes, i'd say we're on the radar. Develop the football team to a consistent +.500 performer and we would definitely be on the radar. Doubt we're going anywhere soon though
MDZip
The WAC now trying to lure North Texas. When you're trying to lure a mediocre team from the worst FBS conference, you know are in big trouble. Once this is all over the WAC's profile will be lower than the MAC's. Of course at that point that MAC will be even further from the top tier than ever.

If I remember correctly, just a few years ago the WAC was home to a number of BCS-busters: Boise State, Fresno State, TCU & those epic, high-scoring Hawaii teams, one of which went undefeated until getting beaten by Georgia in a major bowl game. johnnyzip84
TCU to join Big East I know there have been rumors for a while, but I really didn't think this one would happen. It's got to be extremely hard on the other sports.
