psc2009
It's being reported today that the Minutemen are interested in jumping to FBS and becoming a football-only member of the MAC. They're a pretty average CAA team right now, so I don't know if they'd be much better talent wise than Western Kentucky is in the Sun Belt. But, it'd certainly help the numbers. http://themacdaily.com/index.php?news&nid=
RootforRoo44
Currently, the MAC has 13 members for football and 12 for all other sports. This difference is caused by Temple being a football-only member of the conference. So Men's Soccer isn't a sport? (7 teams)
GoZips
Football only? Not a chance. what does the MAC need with another grifter? However, UMASS has a division-1 men's soccer team. If football comes they must bring the men's soccer team. The MAC is in great danger of permanently losing their automatic bid.
Zip Watcher
Force them into 3 or 4 OOC games a year with MAC teams in hoops, and I think I'd be OK with U*ASS joining up. Go Zips!
ZachTheZip
I think we should do it. Then move BG or Miami to the West for football. Balanced divisions is important. UMass football has some potential to grow.
johnnyzip84
I'm not a big fan of this unless it's for all sports. By the time this MIGHT occur, Temple could very well be on their way to C-USA leaving the MAC right back at square one.
Quickzips
Bad move if it is football only. If they bring men's soccer and/or men's hoops along with them very good move. If they go football only with a significant scheduling agreement for soccer and hoops ok move.
Captain Kangaroo
Do it. If UMass wants to join our leper colony, let 'em in! Added bonus - It would piss off YSU.
ZachTheZip
They will reportedly play a provisional FBS schedule in 2011 and 2012. Sounds like we might have found our FCS opponent for next year's schedule.

I thought YSU would moving to the Big Ten because they are the greatest football team to ever walk on this planet? well I guess their fans would make you think that... UAZipster0305
I love UMass as an addition but only as a full member. Same for Temple or kick them out. Balance the divisions and gain some real commitment and credibility for this conference. However, we don't need the MAC to be an automatically qualifying bid for the NCAA Tournament in soccer. If we don't win the MACC, we are strong enough to enter as an at-large.
Quickzips
Another Report According to this article we won't be seeing much of UMass as they will be heading to the Mid Atlantic Conference to face off with the likes of Temple and Miami(Ohio). Well there's your problem, right there. As soon as they find out the A in MAC doesn't mean Atlantic, they'll scurry right back where they came from. I think we should invite Villanova. Nice cross town rivalry with Temple.
johnnyzip84
Actually, "Mid Atlantic Conference" sort of has a nice ring to it. Maybe that's what we can call the conference we wind up in after we blow up the MAC? ECU Marshall Miami Ohio Akron Buffalo Toledo UMass Temple

ECU Marshall Miami Ohio Akron Buffalo Toledo UMass Temple I love the idea but the new conference is unbalanced with 9 members. I would prefer 12 members that include Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, and Dayton (moving to FBS). I am curious, where might this leave Can't? Sounds like we might have found our FCS opponent for next year's schedule. Careful. Remember,G-W. I don't think anyone here is trying to imply an automatic win over the FCS team on the 2011 schedule. We're merely trying determine which FCS team that might be. I'm sure the vast majority realize UMass would represent a much more challenging opponent than G-Webb.
